Gee your PCP sounds like a peach... yeah find another one as soon as you can. I'm the same measurements as you and when I told my PCP I wanted surgery she was like praise God hallelujah at last... well not using those words but that was her reaction.. LOL... I hope you feel better soon.

Names and tags don't bother me. I describe myself as super morbid obese when I need to. I have even told people to look for the fattest person in the room and it is probably me. I am what I am. I wish it did bother me because I'm one of those people that when something bothers me I fix it.

Amy, is it possible you are the ONE person, sure but possible and probable are not the same thing.
How old is your last complete blood panel. If the answer is more than 90 days get it again. You need to rule out a medical issue.
    Zero sugar
Then - cut the carbs to under 50g with all of those coming from veggies
Protein - and Fat should fill out the rest of your calories.
The goal is to get to fat burning and that process has a defined route. You must burn the stored glycogen in your muscles followed by the sugar in your blood followed by the sugar in your liver (the cause of a fatty liver)
When all of this has been worked down then the body will process stored fat for energy. Stored fat is the very last energy source our bodies tap cause it is the energy of last resort and we are programmed to survive.
If at any time you spike your blood sugar with sugar, carbs, protein your insulin will rise and you will enter Fat storage mode and can not return to fat burning mode till insulin levels return to normal.
You mentioned hormones and you are correct all weight loss and gain is hormone driven. The longer you were overweight the more issues with metabolic syndrome you will have. If you have other medical issues as you have stated you will have that to mess with your hormones as well.
Dont eat if your not hungry, dont eat late at night it delays the start of fat burning when you Fast and everybody Fast's when they go to sleep unless you sleep walk to the fridge i guess.
Dont start your day with any carbs at all. Protein and fat only
If your not a Breakfast person wait for first meal till you feel like it.
If you have a workout in your routine and you can, do it in the morning before you eat.
lifting weights followed by 20 minutes cardio minimum.
Do with this what you want but you have to get as much control over the hormones with your diet as you can.
It is critical that you use a food app to track all your Macro's
Remember there are Essential Amino acids(protein) and Essential Fatty Acids(fats) but there no essential carbs
You cant control what you dont understand and that starts with tracking your food.
I wish you luck and hope you find a way to go forward with your weight loss.

My hypothyroid is under control, hypo makes u gain weight by slowing your metabolism.
    I do look for stevia.
Consulted a family friend who is Batiatric surgeon , he said there are certain ppl genetically such that this surgery will not benefit and we cannot test for those genes yet ☹️☹️☹️ I hope I’m not one of them.
I’m doing my weights n getting steps in ! I’ll cut all carbs for two weeks n see if my weight changes.

No, no counseling but I think I’m going to look into it. Deep down I know I have a problem with food too since I have been on this yo-to train for many years and have gone up and down way too much (only plus side of that is that I haven’t really had to buy a log of clothes bc I have sizes from 2 to 14!) thanks for the suggestion. I think it will be great to talk to someone about it

I don't know if anyone said this, I didn't read all of the replies but on top of what poster allwet said, also get rid of that cheat day. Immediately! I haven't had my surgery yet so you can take my opinion as a grain of salt, but I am the QUEEN of weight loss losing as much as 100 pounds in 10 months before and I can tell your from experience cheat day is only once you have reached your goal weight and is in maintenance mode. Until then say good by to cheat day, gorging on anything you want day. All you are doing is flushing all the good you did all week long down the drain. I have tested this over and over during the past 20 years and have spreadsheets dating back to the 90s to prove. usually the weeks I had spikes during dieting was when I did cheat day especially while in plateau mode. Find none food ways to treat yourself... food should never be a treat anyway, that is how I got to be over 300 pounds using food to Celebrate, treat, stop crying, etc. etc. etc. As i wait for my surgery I'm looking for new ways to handle these emotions including something other than treat day. Work those foods into your plan in small portions through out the week, key being small portions... But you're going to HAVE to calorie / carb count for that to work. If you refuse to calorie / carb count, leave those "cheat" food alone... period until you reach goal. Good luck!

Are you in counseling? I'm starting counseling before I have my surgery and plan to stay in for a year or longer if needed. I know I have a problem with food, I use it to Celebrate, I use it when I'm stressed, I use it when I'm sad, etc. etc. I especially use it when I feel I'm not making progress in my weight loss goals which is silly when you think about it, instead of trying hard I turn to food. Especially if I feel I have been denying myself certain things. That won't stop just because of surgery so I'm going to work with a counselor to help me find other ways of dealing with things. Maybe you can look into that as well.

Don't do low sugar, do NO sugar. Also stay away from grains and bread to see if that helps... I know when I cut carbs I can get things going in the right direction

I have the same question. I have very full, long and thick natural 4b&C African American hair. When it is full afro mode or a twistout you can't see through it. I have had thick hair all of my life. I'm having a hard time accepting my hair may become thin and see through... would love to hear different experiences but especially from anyone that did NOT lose their hair. In the interim I have started deep conditioning every week and Protein packs as needed, but I have been told on other websites none of it matters it can't be avoided I will lose my hair.

MedicVSG, Don't worry about your wife. Once she sees how well you are doing she will probably want to do something herself. I'm foodie as well, I even write food reviews on occasion for a local publication. I'm just going to have to let that part of my life go. In fact I've been thinking rechanneling it into a healthy lifestyle blog or something we will see. I love to go on cruises and cruises are ALL about eating... but I have decided that the first cruise after surgery will be on where I make it a challenge to eat as healthy as possible, seek out small, healthy meals. 8 years ago I lost 100 pounds and I went on a cruise and lost 7 pounds while on the 10 day cruise!!! So I know I can do this if I put my mind to it and so can you. Hang in there.

Try to keep all the reason you are doing this in the front of your mind. Do not let yourself dwell on the very very small 1% complication rate.
This is a very safe surgery and you will be fine and so much happier when you get this part behind you.
it is the what ifs that will drive you nuts. try to stay busy - 8 kids that should not be hard

    Heu Guys

Today is my 1 month Surgeversary. I proudly lost 21.5 kgs which translates to almost 47 pounds! Its been a rough ride but i am enjoying it so far! If i have one piece of advice to anybody is just stick with the program and remember eat as much of the right foods as you can. It will bump up ur metabolism and get you to where you want to be. I still have 28kgs to lose but i know i will lose them.
All thanks to my surgeon Dr Khaled Qatry in Alexandria, Egypt who is the kindest most compassionate kind and always concerned surgeon i have ever met. He never focuses on the small things but always makes sure the big picture is right

Not rude at all. From my preop appointment on 4/26 until today I have lost 17 pounds. From the start of my 2 week preop diet until today (4 weeks) I have lost 24 pounds. In addition to the PA I also saw the nutritionist...she said I should expect to start losing a bit more quickly after starting foods but I honestly feel so much better than I did 4 weeks ago that I am more than happy with where I am at.

Any questions you have that I or someone else can help with please ask. I am the poet above, yeah one of my diverse talents. 72 and planning RnY surgery, started in August 2015 a long strange story, more twists and hairpin curves than a roller coaster but hope to have my surgery within the next couple months. If you decide to hang around, and I sure hope you do, you'll hear all the chapters to the Frust8 story. Does have comedy turns here and there😝 Welcome Again!

I'm 55 in July and I'm just starting my journey. My surgery will be several months off but I'm just reading all I can until then. The program i'm in is a slow one that lasts 3 years all together (they follow you 3 years after surgery to help you keep the weight off). I'm excited, even though it literally be months before I even get to pre op diet, I'm enjoying learning about everything as I go. Good luck with your procedure, lets us know how it goes for you!

Really great thank you for asking. All my power shopping yesterday got me down to 260.8 this morning which is 24 pounds gone since I started my preop diet 4/18 and 9 pounds down from my day of surgery weight. I feel really very good with increasing energy.

Ironically a co worker that has lost 80 pounds the traditional way told me today she hopes I can just lose the weight traditional without surgery. I told her I would like that too but in 2010 I loss 100 pounds and by 2012 I had gained 120 back. I have been yo - yoing like that since my late teens. I know I can lose weight but I need help keeping it off, I'm hoping this tool can help me keep it off. I think she understood but even if she didn't I have to do what is best for my healthy and this yo-yoing is not good for me health wise. Glad you did what was best for you.
