I'm not a sleeper but a potential RnY, that's Ok we are all allies in this weight loss war, you guys are Army, I'm Navy but we all want to murder the Ghrelin Monster once and for all.
According to my ex-surgeon I am 180 pounds overweight, that's a NFL placekicker to lose, haven't heard current surgeon's take on it all but I suspect at least a cheerleader. I am currently at 3-how much did you say? hundred, knowing I'll have to go clear through Twoferville and well into onederland before my journey is completed. So I too will be watching from the sidelines with nary a snack unless you count a chilled bottle of Premier Protein sitting on a TV tray. I am SO GLAD I asked this question! I just read all of the wonderful responses! Thank you everyone for sharing your success stories it is so motivational! The doubt monster was really creeping in after seeing so many negative posts elsewhere but this has brought me back to the reality of it is indeed possible and the doctors are not exaggerating! Love this forum! And I'm so grateful to all of you for taking time to answer with such detail!

    Greetings Gals!

I started at 350lb, Surgery weight was ~325lb, Tummy Tuck was at ~195 and my one year mark in February has kept me at about 175lb. 13 months after my surgery, I had to get gall bladder removed because I was having ugly gall bladder attacks and they found several stones. They attributed it to severe weight loss in small amount of time. Also, for those at the beginning, my best advice is to not allow yourself to get discouraged with stalls because oooooh my, how I loathed them! Just stick with the magic number 6 and don't consume more than 6g of sugar in any sitting or with any beverages. Stay Focused. Be Grateful Everyday. Appreciate your wonderful body at every stage,

I lot a ton, and by 6 months out my hair was this and sparse and just horrible. I did take all the Vitamins, I took Vitamin IV cocktails, but I hated how I looked so much I got extensions. I love them. I might need them for many more months, though now (10.5 mos out) my hairdressers says I’ve got tons of new baby hairs growing in, but it will take months to get them long enough to be “hair.” So I am loving my fake hair.

my hair was naturally thin, so I figured I would be bald. I couldn't stand the Vitamins, they made me sick, so I stopped taking them. I do take Vitafusin B12 and Spring Valley Hair Skin and Nails. I have had no Hair loss. I have been very surprised. good luck ladies.

I can’t tolerate chicken of any kind... not anything chicken flavored either.. might have been dumping but I didn’t eat but maybe 1 oz of chicken and I chewed it up very well, hoping I would be able to tolerate it for once. Chicken and eggs are the only things I can’t tolerate after surgery. :-/ I am going to be seeing my dr fri for my 6 month post-op appt so I will bring it up to him then.. just sucks cause I loved chicken before.. but last night I felt like my heart was going to explode

Everything and Anything is possible! Even after surgery, stay away from sugars. Aim for 6g or less for each sitting. Weight training helps.
    Starting weight: 350lb
Surgery gastric sleeve weight (2-17-17): 325lb
Tummy Tuck on 12-22-2017 and ~ 10lb of excess skin removed
Weight at one year (3-17-18): 175lb
    Total weight loss: 175lb

I’m not at exactly 100 lbs yet but I started at 256.4 on the day of surgery. I’m 6.5 months out and have lost 99.2 lbs so far just from surgery. I’ve got another 30 lbs I’d like to lose before I hit my 1 year out.

Beta98 reacted to RickM in Any Gastric Sleevers 300 pounds or less before surgery lose 100 pounds afterwards?
Count me in - I was 292 at surgery time, hit goal of 190 at about seven and a half months (after slowing things down at six months to keep from over shooting the mark too far) and eventually hit 185 before correcting it to 190ish. I could have taken it lower but that would have meant losing too much muscle mass rather than fat,

Beta98 reacted to Losebig in Any Gastric Sleevers 300 pounds or less before surgery lose 100 pounds afterwards?
I’m in that vicinity, I was 304 at the start and 296 at surgery. It’ll be 6 months next week and I’m down to 216. Goal is 190 and I expect to hit that, though loss has slowed recently to 1-2 lbs per week due to lots of exercise (I’m building muscle while I lose fat). 100 lbs is definitely doable.

I'm having the same concern as you are. I started at 233 right now I'm at 228 what's a tentative surgery date September 24th. I see a couple people I know that had this procedure what's in the last couple of years they lost some weight but are still way over weight! I'm just really concerned that I have this procedure and only lose like 30 pounds!

If you started at 310 and you want to get to 150 ...you have 160 pounds of excess weight.
    60% of 160 is 96
    70% of 160 is 112
The average sleeve patient loses between 60-70% of their excess weight. 96-112 pounds in your case.
Your doctor was in the ballpark of reasonable expected average results.
As many others have proven, you can do a lot better than average results if you work very hard.
Your doc was being honest with you...and was even quoting you a conservative result based on average weight loss among sleeve patients.
It is true that some people have to work harder for their losses. Diabetics, PCOS folks, Older folks, People with mobility issues, People with other endocrine issues....can have a more stubborn time moving those pounds.....than say, younger, fitter, healthier people.
Most people will lose at least 50% of their excess weight. A few will not. A few will have an oustanding experience and lose 100% of their excess weight. On average people lose 60-70%.

Names and tags don't bother me. I describe myself as super morbid obese when I need to. I have even told people to look for the fattest person in the room and it is probably me. I am what I am. I wish it did bother me because I'm one of those people that when something bothers me I fix it.
