Hi! I'd be interested. Are you allowed to have one meal per day on your pre op, when did you start your pre op diet and when is your surgery?

Hi all. I'm scheduled for RNY on July 30th! I am going to go ahead and start my pre-op liver-shrinking diet today. The six-month wait went by pretty fast, fortunately.

I’m now July 25th. I re-start my pre-op diet in 8 days. I’m super excited because my pre-op diet actually tastes decent and fills me up! I’m doing my best to stick to my own diet right now. I’ve already had plenty of “last meals” so now I’m just focused on losing as much as I can before surgery!

Has anyone been on thier pre op diet while traveling? I didn't have room to take my binder of info and I drew a blank on what and how much to drink and eat. So I'm just doing one meal per day Protein Drinks the rest and Water. I'm in day 4, my son's bday is tomorrow and my family reunion this weekend... Uggghh!! No bday cake for me.

Ok, thanks! No she was talking about my food. She said I could buy it but she left me with the impression I didn't need it, and I feel like I would. Especially to track my ounces.

Awesome list. Now, I wanted a food scale but my dietician said I'd be mainly tracking my oz. so a scale wasn't needed. Are you able to track your oz.?

Agree. I use my food scale throughout the day. I measure ingredients out for recipes, for my shake ingredients. I measure out my Snacks, Jerky, cheese, veggie dip etc. Constanly measuring makes it easier to eyeball and track when you eat out.

I am able to track my ounces only with a food scale. You can get a cheap one for $10 bucks at any big name store(wal-mart, target, Kmart etc.) or even Amazon
was your nutritionist only talking about the fluids you will have for a while? You can track those in a Blender Bottle, water bottle or with a scale. It when it’s time to eat food, you will definitely want a scale. You’ll be measuring food and dividing it up

    Vitamin/pill box
phone/watch for timer (pill taking & drinking)
crystal light; I keep it everywhere. Mixes well with my Premier Protein clear & gives it a better taste
my hydro flask bottles; they have the perfect sip lid (no straws allowed for me)
Plastic condiment containers; I am on soft food and only allowed 1-2 ounces of food at a time and these are super handy and cheap on Amazon or Walmart.
Digital scale!! Measuring food is so vital. I purchased 2 (one for home, one for work). Going to order another that will fit in my purse for when I am further out and going out to eat

For directly after surgery and during the recovery stay, initially it was the lip balm and dry mouth spray, and my sweatpants. I was thankful I brought a pillow from home. My cell phone and charger. Everything else, I really didn't use. Never read my book, didn't bother with anything else other than my cell and the lip balm and dry mouth spray.
At home, my Ninja food processor (picked up the 2 horsepower version), I use it several times a day *STILL* more than 2 months out of surgery.

I am very excited to have my surgery date! July 16th! I am having trouble sticking to my diet. I have gained back about 3 pounds. Any suggestions? I have really craved sugar lately.

Yea, that's a good idea. I wish someone would have told me everything I had to do before hand, cost and a possible date that alone would have been a huge encouragement. At least I'm not alone when it comes to the struggle of waiting. It will soon come!!

My PCM sent a referral to the bariatric program (same organization....Baylor Scott and White is huge) and the staff there contacted my insurance and determined they would cover the surgery. At that point, I got an appointment with the surgeon and then received my book with all my instructions for the various appointments needed preop. Since there was no requirement for supervised weight loss I just went to the various appointments (7 total I think) and the day after the last one they called me with a surgery date. Took less than 4 months.

I have Aetna and I would like to know how long it took you guys for approval once all your paperwork was submitted by the doctor.

My paperwork was submitted last Wednesday the 23rd and I haven’t heard anything. I have also called my insurance to mark my claim as urgent. I know my paperwork is in the per certified stage (I basically talked to Aetna on the phone for 2 hours to make this happen).

I am currently on day 7 of my liquid diet and I am trying desperately to have my surgery on June 4th or 7th (doctor is trying leave a spot open for me)

I would just like to know how long your process took from paperwork submitted to approval
