cammarays reacted to EsoKev in How would you have reacted?
I went in today for one of my pre-ops tests. Mind you, this was at an ambulatory surgical center that my bariatric team uses for test and such (EGD, pulmonary, etc.). The nurse who was wheeling me into the room for my procedure asked me why I was being scoped today. I told her I was going through the bariatric program and she said, "You don't look like the kind of person who needs that surgery." I was stunned and just held my breath and didn't say anything. She's a clinic nurse and not at all involved with my bariatric program, but it hit hard. She knew nothing about my comorbidities or general health and strictly made an assessment on the fact that my BMI is 40 or how I "looked" lying on the bed.
How would you have reacted? Should I bring this up with my care team?

Hi, my surgery is scheduled for may 29th, starting my pre op diet today. I'm pretty nervous as I've never had surgery before.

cammarays got a reaction from Frustr8 in Why pick gastric bypass over gastric sleeve?
Well I would rather give you why I personally chose RnY as opposed to the sleeve. But here is a great site that breaks it down. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-complete-patients-guide-to-bariatric-surgery/
I chose RnY for several reasons. For one, I wanted the most restrictive procedure possible. RnY gives you a smaller pouch than the sleeve. This part will sound insane, but I also wanted the “dumping” reaction. I just believe that it will more than keep me on the right track if experiencing dumping is possible for eating the wrong thing. RnY has also been around for decades. For someone like me who has never had a major surgery, I wanted to go with the “golden seal”. And lastly, I had “fire” GERD when I was pregnant. I didn’t even want that as a remote possibility. Do your research and really see which is best for you. The website is organized well so you can figure it all out. Both procedures Are great options for weight loss. Best of luck!

I can only handle the Premier Protein...everything else has been incredibly disgusting.

cammarays got a reaction from Hop_Scotch in Anyone ever get a case of the "nevers"?
A dream come true? Yes. Grateful? Absolutely. It's all becoming very real as I get my surgery date tomorrow. Yay!!! But now the "nevers" are creeping in. I had my first experience with the "nevers" over the weekend when I thought about the things that I enjoy that I might never enjoy again. A NY slice (NYers will understand the pain), Bagels, Ben & Jerry's, real coffee, (don't even mention decaf) and the list goes on and on.
Now don't get me wrong, I started the post with what a dream this is and how grateful I am. I realize that this is a life-changing journey. The rewards of that journey far outweigh the temporary gratification of my "never" food choices. So I've decided to look at my "nevers" like an ex--just not good for me, which is why they are exes in the first place, no?
Never give up
Never going back
Never lose sight of the finish line
Neverending story where I am my own Shero (what color is your cape?)
I mean, who needs bagels anyway, like really?

Thank you. Maybe I’ll try Peet’s decaf. It’s already my favorite brand so maybe the decaf is doable. Thanks for the suggestion!

Buy half caff, they edge over to Decaf, you might learn to mind the swich as bad. And yes caramel liquid Premier Protein makes a nice Creamer, even the equate version at Wal-Mart $2 cheaper still pretty fine. I'm really, liking the taste of svelte but the Protein count n is lower. Drat!

I always buy decaf now it was a switch I dreaded due to my heart doctors orders then for this bariatric surgery coming up 6-4-18 but I find now it's satisfying, of course I buy Dunkin Donuts from their shop but Wal-Mart has it or their store brand of donut shop kind or breakfast blends are good too or just look for samples of decafs try them you may be surprised.

Oh noooooo, not decaf ! Before I started the liquid diet I found that some people in the forums use the Premier Protein shakes as a creamer! It is really good!! So I do have something to look forward to when I allow mysefl to have coffee again.
I've used Stevia for quite some time so I already accosted to it, but I do miss my coffee. I might have to test some Decaf to find a decent one when the time comes.

Yes. I feel it. I LOVE my fresh ground and brewed coffee from my jura superauto (hubby calls me a coffee snob).
I settled for stepping down from two coffees a day to one, then dropped caffeine content until I was used to full Decaf Beans a few weeks before pre op diet started. Also started getting used to replacing the full cream milk with 1% and the teaspoon of sugar with Stevia sweetener.
Most days I start my morning with a fresh decaf while still on liquids, but I may skip it some days depending on what I'm having for Breakfast once I get puree/soft foods stage next Wednesday. In a few months I'd like to go back to one real coffee a day though (provided it doesn't trigger acid/gerd).

Congrats! And I’m going to have to try crunching my Vitamins. I feel like I’m losing some of the potency when I crush them since it leaves so much residue.
