    Anyone else?

I’m 2 years out and had hit my happy weight but I also jumped on the struggle bus. I live in NYC and with it being the original epicenter the lockdown took a toll. I ordered tons of groceries for the long haul and started eating things that I would never have eaten before all this. It took awhile but I felt my weight slowly start creeping up. I say felt because I was mortified at stepping on a scale. However I couldn’t continue to move in the wrong direction with all the work I had put in. I finally weighed myself and found that there were 9 pounds more of me than the last time I weighed. That was it, that snapped me out of it. I took out my superhero cape and ordered 10 boxes of protein shakes from Costco. I went right back to my pre-op diet. I’ve lost that 9 pounds and feel better already. Even though the restrictions are lifting here, it seems that I will be working from home indefinitely, so protein shakes will be apart of my routine for 1-2 meals from now on.

    Marc Bessler at Columbia U

I had my surgery with Dr. Bessler in 2018. While he is chilled and straightforward as the other poster mentioned, he is extremely knowledgeable and responsive. It was a great experience from beginning to end. Everything from pre-op to post- op went without a single complication. I had no trouble with the staff, they even kept me calm during the insurance waiting game. I highly recommend him. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

  4. Hey ya’ll. Today is the first day of my liquid diet and I’m already weeping over my coffee maker. Lol. Anyone feel my pain? Welp, May 25th—I’m coming for you! “I know that I’m in my own little world—but it’s ok, they like me here.”
  5. I bought a skirt in a size 8!! I’m currently in an oxygen depriving 14.

    Non Scale Victories

I had a friend pick me up today to run errands. I kept catching her looking at me out of the corner of my eye. Finally, she says ” I know it's only been a few weeks now, but I can totally see it—you look good.” ☺️☺️☺️
  7. I was 5/25 in NYC (bypass)!
  8. Thanks Orchids! I had my surgery on Friday and was wondering about the retention of fluid after surgery. This was so helpful.

    I'm on the loser bench

Welcome to the bench! Glad you’re doing well.
  10. Wow! I was never given that advice. Thanks for sharing Bryn.
  11. It started in the hospital. I got up to go to the bathroom and didn’t want to get back in the bed (I was bored) so I did a lap around the ward. I still didn’t want to get back in the bed. So I did another lap. 4 laps later I finally got tired and went back to my room. I did that until I was discharged, so I guess by the time I got home I had a tolerance for it.
  12. I’m the same. My surgery was 5/25 and I’m a mini gulper already with no discomfort. Are you active? I’m in NYC and have been all over the city walking since I was discharged. That could have something to do with it. Lol, maybe we’re just cyborgs.

    any June Sleevers??

My local Costco unfortunately only carries the chocolate, vanilla and caramel. But if you have a card you can order any of the flavors online. I got the Peaches and Cream delivered last week and they are good.

It went well. I’m not hungry at all even with all the Memorial Day smells, lol.

    any June Sleevers??

My surgery was on Friday and the Premier Protein drinks didn’t give me problems. I just started the shakes again today for post-op and I’m still ok. You might want to try a different brand.

    any June Sleevers??

What type of protein drink are you using?
  17. Hi there. I just had my surgery Friday. And all went well. I had no recollection of the breathing tube, just a very sexy hoarse voice for a few hours after—but it really wasn’t a problem. I’ve had no gas pain and my pain overall wasn’t more than I would feel with menstrual camps (sorry fellas). I did ask my doctor prior to my surgery about gas and he said they do everything that they can to get most of it out. I have to believe he did because I really am not feeling anything. You will be fine. Walk around the ward when they clear you to do so—it really helps. Take care. You’ve got this!

    Anyone else freaking out?

I'm writing this from my hospital bed (surgery was Friday) and I'm not thinking about food anymore. It’s like that craving has been removed. Maybe it’s still very new for me—excitement maybe, adrenaline? I don’t know, I have no interest not even in my beloved coffee. This could all change on a dime, but right now I’m just going to enjoy the ride🙂
  20. I took a Lyft to the hospital. But I'm being picked up later today to go home.

    Saying Hello!

Sorry, I'm just seeing this. I have HealthFirst (I'm in NY). And with your co-morbidity under most insurance, you qualify with a BMI at 35 and over. Without your comorbidity, you would need to be at a BMI of 40 and over. Take a look at this link it was so helpful. It has almost every insurance out there and their requirements. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/insurance-and-costs/am-i-covered/check-my-insurance
  22. Congratulations, Sally! I’m right behind you (Friday). We can curse over our 1oz broth in unison.
  23. Hello, Ladies and Gents. It's time for a May 25th roll call. We won't' be at the BBQ this year but--we're still having a party!: Have you?: Taken your before pics Purchased everything you need Packed Re-reviewed your surgeon's instructions regarding the day/night before surgery

    Pre-surgery recipe ideas

I’m in the final stages of the pre-op diet so even looking at this site shakes me to the core. Lol. I can’t wait to try some of these once I move to solid food! Enjoy: https://www.bariatriceating.com/category/wls-friendly-recipes/
  25. Thank you! Yes, I’m a big fan of Columbia (my daughter was born there) so I know I’m in good hands and you will be too! Liquid diet is going reasonably well. The first few days were a challenge but my brain and stomach are now working in unison. Lol.
