You are a brave woman and have been through a lot! Do not let them shame you! You don't need to scream and rage, just send an email to the office manager/customer service.
They need a reminder that all people deserve to be treated with respect. Do it for you and do it for the next person they decide to mock/belittle.

Sleeved36 reacted to RickM in Educate me about BMR post-op
The thing to watch for with the various online BMR calculators is that they are intended for normal people, not significantly overweight people. BMR most closely correlates to lean body, or muscle, mass rather than overall scale weight - all that extra fat that we carry, or did carry, does little to influence BMR, but can give a false sense of hope by implying that we can lose weight at, say, 2000 calories when we really need to be at 1000 to get the weight off. For my numbers, there is a difference of close to 1000 calories on that calculator between the fat me and the normal weight me, and while scale weight can make some difference when discussing active or moving metabolism, as it takes energy to move that extra fat around, the difference to resting metabolism (BMR) is insignificant.
When using these calculators, it is best to use your "ideal" or goal weight to get a better idea of what your BMR really is.
The other problem is that these calculators seek to tell you what your BMR should be rather than what it actually is, and with the metabolic problems that can accompany severe obesity, that can be a significant difference. Individual testing such as a VOX test is better, but costs more than a free calculator, but can still have some errors as they are still algorithmically based upon normal people. but they are closer.
As for using BMR after WLS, the best way to use it is to simply say "that's interesting" and then ignore it. Keep your calories as moderately low as you can, say 800-1000 calories per day for most, and don't worry about BMR until you get close to your goal weight and need to increase your consumption to stabilize your weight (weight loss history is a better measure of your real world metabolism anyway) or if your weight loss is too slow and you need to adjust your intake downward.
In short, BMR is an interesting number, but not overly useful for us in the form that we usually find it.

Yes you need to consider your BMR. Now, you don't need to consume your BMR total, the idea with the BMR is to stay *UNDER* it. Something to note, BMR drops as we age and as we get thinner.

Not knowing your age, based on your height and current weight a BMR of around 1700 would mean you were 53ish.
    https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr

So, if you are eating under your BMR, then you really don't have anything to worry about. Once you get down towards your goal weight, your BMR will have dropped and it should be more attainable to reach a maintenance intake at that point. Things usually do balance out eventually.

Done this morning. I had to follow up. I couldn't live with myself if I let that behavior go unchecked. Like I said, I worry more about the person who may feel more vulnerable than me. A friend of mine went to this practice to inquire about the process and said the PA was so rude to her, she never came back. And this would be such a blessing to her, she has a lot of weight to lose, many comorbidities and a couple little kids to care for. I am hoping she will check out some other practices!

Today makes 6 weeks since I had surgery. I've lost 20 pounds. Which is good, but it has been such a struggle these past few weeks.
I'm nauseated almost every time I eat, sometimes to the point I vomit and/or dry heave.
I'm on 2 different anti nausea medications, and will be starting a 3rd today.
I have had diarrhea for the past 6 weeks. Tested for C.Diff but thankfully it was negative.
food used to bring me joy, now it's pain and a chore.
I've not been getting the Protein in that I need which I know has an effect on my rate of weight loss.
I've been to the doctor, had tests done, trying the new medicine to see if it helps, then go from there.
Several "friends" at work have been pretty unsympathetic. I know they don't understand, they don't have to understand, but it'd be nice to have a little more support from them instead of "well have you changed your diet?" REALLY???
I've cried more in the past several weeks than I have in a long time.
I'm mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted.
I hope it gets better, cause right now this sucks....
Sorry I just needed to vent and cry.

So I'm still going strong with Intermittent fasting, i drink a lot more fluids these days and weight loss has picked up again. I think this can be a better reset option (along with cleaned up diet) for people stuck instead of going back to the liquid diet. Both will be challenging to someone not ready to change but this does not involve such a major change.
  16. Thanks
Sleeved36 reacted to jess9395 in Intermittent Fasting
Not my experience. I have a sleeve and I do IF here and there for various reasons. It’s not about not eating all day, it’s about limiting the window during which you eat. Say an 8 hour window and then fast the other 16. So if you delay your first “meal” till 10am and have your last meal at 6 you’re good. That’s what I do when I do IF. And it doesn’t make me any hungrier than any other time. I still stop when I’m full.

A lot of vets do it for regain and it works quite well!

When my husband and I met, we were working for the same company. Before we started dating, he had seen me lose around 30 pounds. I got down to about 150. He was 6'1", 145 pounds. When we started dating, he had said how impressed he was that I had lost the weight and how he hadn't "noticed" me before that. (Yeah, I knew how to interpret that one.) At that point, we had maybe been going out for a few weeks. I told him then that if my weight was a big deal to him, he needed to move along right now. I couldn't promise that I would never regain the weight. He decided to stay.
In the 29 years that we've been married, I've gained and lost hundreds of pounds. He has always been there for me, regardless. He's my biggest cheerleader now. I am blessed.

    Guys... (and Gals!)...

I can run. Like one of those fit people you see running on the side of the road. Except the fit part of course. But still I’m RUNNING. It’s been years. I knew I missed running, but the absolute feeling of accomplishment I have is insane! Now admittedly I can’t do it for very long, but I’m okay with that! Today I ran 2.12 miles in 30 minutes. Not impressive to normal joggers but for me that’s AMAZING.

I am having a very proud NSV and I hope everyone else is having a good night!

Victory? Kinda . . . . My swimsuit is too big. Didn't realize it until my tankini top was floating up around my armpits. Was able to adjust ok, will just have to be VERY careful for the rest of this trip.
Also, jogged a good distance on the beach with out feeling like I wanted to die.

Typically overweight people and healthy people have different lifestyles. This can lead to incompatibility on lots of levels.
It is also hard to watch someone you care about be sick and unhealthy, over time this can wear at a relationship too.

As of this week, I am obese! No longer morbidly obese.
I have lost the equivalent of my 5year old. (Lost the equivalent of my 2year old a while ago). Can sometimes shop in regular sizes. Not all the time yet, but only 3 months postop.
Next goal: weigh what is on my driver's license, then onederland!
