sammi123 got a reaction from Frustr8 in more post-op pain than i expected
I was in so much more pain than i ever expected! I woke up from surgery feeling as though someone took a steak knife to my stomach! I just remember moaning and groaning so loud. I was so sick and needed to throw up but there was nothing there to throw up.
Walking did help but the pain was so bad for the first three days but then started to get better day by day. I couldn't sleep laying down at all for about a week. I couldn't get up the pain was so bad so i slept in a recliner. I took pain med for about 4 days then just otc meds.
I read where some people have little pain and I envy them. I felt like such a big baby. I always thought I had a high pain tolerance but after my bypass not anymore. lol
Hang in there. I am 3 weeks out and no more pain at all!

I am just now 2 weeks post op and can sleep on my stomach but it's still a bit uncomfortable. I say by next week I'll be as good as new.

I don't feel hungry, don't feel full when I eat. I feel like I can eat more than I should be eating although I am eating what my surgeon tells me to. How do I know when I am consuming too much food. I am afraid I am gonna stretch out my stomach.

I am almost a month out and have just rediscovered scrambled eggs. They are so good! I normally add a 1-2 Tbsp of shredded cheese, a splash of Fairlife milk and a little bit of onion flakes to one egg and it is very nummy. That and 1/2 of a clementine fill me right up. As long as it's specifically on your plan, I say go for it.

sammi123 reacted to Creekimp13 in How many calories a day should I be eating?
I ate 1000 calories at three weeks, I eat 1200 per day now. Never feel hungry, tons of energy, and almost to goal. Have lost pretty steadily:)
Jess is right....ideas about diet among surgeons are all over the map. I'm part of a study with a major research hospital assessing the effect of higher calories sooner impacting sustained loss at five years post surgery. The theory is that eating closer to normal calories sooner gives you a better metabolic reset long-term. Previous small studies support this, and I'm part of a broader study hoping to confirm and support these findings with a bigger population of patients.
That said...I know plenty of people who have been VERY successful long term eating low calories through their loss phase.
Ultimately, it's so individual. People who are hell bent to make it work....make it work.
I really did not consider myself an "ideal" bariatric patient. I'm not overly type A. I refuse to be hungry. I hoped to improve my health conditions, but vanity wasn't a huge motivator. My biggest hope going into this was to get the average result....50-60% excess weight loss. I've done so much better than that, I'm just stunned. I'm not far from goal, and I've got a year of trickle loss left. It's pretty exciting:)
I really like my forever diet. It's healthy and balance with lots of good carbs. (lots of fruit, whole grains, beans...very little sugar or refined) I don't feel like I'm "dieting" and that's huge for me long term. I do get 75 naughty calories a day....I can use them or bank them, so nothing is forbidden. I don't crave anything I can't have....I plan for it...eat a legal amount...and am usually puzzled about why it sounded so good. My tastes have changed a lot.
My whole life I was either starving and obsessing like a maniac.... or throwing all concerns to the wind and overindulging. I don't want to live this way anymore....both extremes just suck for me. This is the first time in my life I've felt like I have a truly healthy relationship with food. It's been a crazy ride, but I feel like I've finally found a sane way to deal with food.

I don't have one no. Wish I did. The recliner is a life saver though I'll be so glad to be able to sleep in my bed again. I have so much admiration for those who say they have no trouble after surgery. I feel like such a baby complaining but the pain is real my friends.....

sammi123 got a reaction from Jpsl1028 in Some questions
I just last week had my endoscopy done and they did find a hiatal hernia. From what i hear they find them in a lot of us. Not a big deal. The surgeon will fix it during my bypass. It will not interfere with me not having surgery at all. I am not sure about ulcers. I would think they would be the same but it would be best to talk to someone who has had that experience. They only thing my surgeon asked from my primary dr is that she send over my recent blood work so he didn't have to have me redo anything again if it wasn't necessary. Plus I am using her for my 6 month nutritional visits so that's that part. Other than that, they asked nothing from her:)
    Good luck!!!

I feel the same. Had my surgery 6/19 and all went well but when I woke I was in so much pain. It's day 3 and still have lost of chest pain. I am walking a lot and keeping my fluids down but it's so bad.
I just hope it ends soon.

My surgery was tues and I am just now feeling a little relief of stomach pain. The left side has been the worse. Yesterday I could barely get up and down and it hurt like crazy to even walk. It took me about 10 min to get out of my recliner when I woke up this morn. But right now I am doing much better. Hopefully tomorrow will be even easier.
Hope you get to feeling better soon and I know you are glad to be home.

I am the same. I feel ok all except my left side really hurts when I get up or bend over. I am also walking and that seems to help but I cannot lie down flat because I can't get up by myself because of the pain being so bad. I have been sleeping in a chair. I hope it eases soon and I hope you feel better as well.
