Calories vs Protein= Distress. I'm 5 week post op and lost 30 pounds since surgery. My daily calories should be between 500-600. I've been very good with my food selection. Sometimes I have to go over my calories like 610 or 620 in order to get at least 64 oz of Protein. This is my first stall and it makes you question your progress...am I eating too much, am I not eating enough,or should I increase my protein is causing distress lol. I started solids this week and I scales bounces back 210, 208, 210, and back to 208...the scale is playing with emotions, lol. I eat very little because the idea of pouch strecthing is a priority. I'm truly working hard to stay focus on my new sleeve. I've added Protein Bars to my regiment i.e. preimer protein or pure protein because the shakes don't work well my stomach. Can anyone give any advice or have had similar experiences. Thanks!

Show someone a little kindness each day~Miss Tee

My provided diet plan is pretty vague, making t a little difficult to know how far off I am from what they might expect. I sometimes eat foods I shouldn’t but I am human and recognize those moments. I have kept it to a minimum and move on from those in a healthier fashion rather than continuing with the bad habits. I am also avoiding snacking & carbs. Those are huge triggers for me. I am not drinking liquids during meals, rather drinking liquids around my meals. No carbonated drinks. Sometimes juice but that’s like 4 oz once or twice a week. I know exercise is not as huge a factor as the dieting but I know the sedentary lifestyle has affected me tons. I am attempting a Keto type diet although I know I cannot reach the required amount of calories. Lack of bathroom use also affects my weight. I am trying to keep my foods as clean and healthy as possible.

Hello everyone! I am 3 months post op. I have lost 52 lbs, 32 of those lbs being post surgery. But I feel as if the past month has been very difficult. I have been losing weight very slowly and I have even stalled. I have started at the gym and changing up what I eat to make sure I am doing things correctly. It is frightening because I want to make this work for me. I know it is a tool and I have to work with it. I am human and have not eaten perfectly after surgery but I am definitely trying. My motivation picks up and falls. I just want to reach my goal like any normal person lol.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice?

I will try increasing my fluids and protein. This started once I switched over to soft foods. I am wondering if I am getting too much Carbs in my meals. But many say it is inevitable.

Hello everyone! I am 25 days post op and haven’t lost weight in the past week. Have only lost 11 lbs since surgery. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

My hair started falling out about 6 months out. It started out in larger amounts than normal. Then it started to come out in large amounts to the point my scalp was sore after brushing my hair. I would suggest making sure that you reach your Protein goals and taking your Biotin.

@ love4040 please allow me to channel your body a moment:
"Hey love4040, it's me -your body. What do you think you're trying to pull? I thought we had a good thing going, I was in homeostasis, that's a fancy, word for balance, I was kinda happy there. Sure you were rather pudgy and all but I was getting q.s., that was medicalese for quantity sufficent Fluid, plenty of fluids and beaucoup calories and things were fine from my perspective. Then you haul me off to some hospital, take a nap and allow doctors to perform assault and battery on my sweet self. I'd call you a back-stabber except that is not where they stabbed me! Now in addition to allowing them to hurt me you are giving me a diet that would barely keep an earthworm alive! I suppose you want me to use your fat stores for enough energy? You do? Now I thought we were friends, we have hung around together for years and now you won't give me the calories I want, fine buddy you are! Okay okay I'll try burning your fat but it's not going to be a happy time for you. I plan to give you a Headache, mess up your bowel habits, maybe I'll give you loose stools maybe hard as bricks, haven't fully decided yet. I'll make you feel weak, I'll make you cranky, I may even send my good buddy appetite or his sister-in-law nausea to visit you. I'm not happy with this new you and I just want you to know this! Oh well maybe after a while I'll resign myself to all this, but right now? Meh I don't love you so much!" ,,,,,,......Your Body

I’m five months out. My Hair loss started about a month or so ago. It was horrible at first huge clumps of hair coming out. Thankfully I have a lot of hair. But it seems to have slowed way down now and I am not pulling out as much hair as I was. Thank you Lord. I purchased a bottle of hair fluence from Amazon which is full of good things for your hair skin and nails. I don’t know if the decline had anything to do with starting to take those or not But I’ll take what I can get.

Finer than frog hair, I'm like a Tommy Tipee cup or a Weeble, I may wobble but I don't fall down. I keep going on with my infantistimal losses, 2 pounds in a month. Feel like I'll lose more when Ohio's Weather, moderates and I can exercise more outside. Saw PCP yezterday, I have a sinus infection that won't leave. Here I sound like a old(well I sorta am) lady talking about her medicines and surgeries. We have gone from Augmentin to Clindamyacin and now we are trying Levaquin. I've had Levaquin before for something else. 3 bad things about that medicine: it would be expensive- expensive if I were, paying cash, luckily I have only $1.20 copay on it. 2. It leaves me looking like I have sunburned cheeks, medical term is "malar flush" and 3. You have to space it 2 hours before or after anything with Calcium or Iron including dairy products or the body doesn't utilize it. Wahhh! So now I have to figure where to fit it in for its once a day. I eat oatmeal in the morning, usually eat something like 1% or skim cottage cheese with either peaches or pears for lunch, they are usually Water or splenda juice packed, oh I will figure out something. At least I don't have to space it between Water and Protein Shakes post surgery. When I blow my nose I wonder if maybe that Barbie woman was right, maybe I am rotten inside! I have a 2 hour presurgical psych appointment with OSU staff psychologist Dr Kramer at Martha Morehouse Pavilion in Columbus on April 25th. A little scared, a little apprehensive they won't like me, find me unworthy, tell me I'm too old and that it is silly at my age to seek surgery. Am I expected to sit in my rocking chair or even worse a wheelchair fat, tired growing weaker and fatter until the Death Angel comes and claims me as his Own? Nope this old broad is leaving kicking, squalling at the top of her lungs and causing a general disturbance. That's the way I came into this world, at that time it was clothing optional, but I will not fade away and I intend to remain fully clothed unless there is a very good reason for removing them. Dang it I get COLD! Beside at my age there aren't too many offers, I have trouble hearing sweet nothing's whispered in my ear, even if I do I'm not sure I'm too interested. My body is now mine, no touchie no feelie without my permission. They can touchie feelie me while I'm in surgery but I will be checking afterwards for excessive fingerprints on my personal regions. May even ask they forego the urinary catheter, I have 3 natural kidneys and I'd have no trouble producing and voiding urine. If they want me up to walk they can just walk me to the bathroom. Don't you feel sorry for my future surgeon? After being burned by my previous program to the point of scarring I will be strident, militant and no longer gullible as I was! My mamma, may she rest in peace, raised me to believe if you treated people nicely they would be nice in return. Wrong, ex-program never read that manual. So just call me H*** on Heels, when I land I may with all 4 sets of claws extended. Treat me decent, treat me kind, Give me my surgery And everything will be fine! A little poem for everyone there. Thanks for caring about me, I'll try to make you proud but bottom line--I'll try to,make ME proud too,[emoji70][emoji12]

I track all my weight on this Epic Weightloss Spreadsheet from Reddit. It requires a little bit of an understanding of Google Documents in order to use it correctly, but I am very visually oriented and I like seeing the graph. I also like that it has a space to put notes on your day (I use it to track my pants sizes as they go down, lol)
As for numbers, I calculate total lost from my absolute highest weight recorded at a doctor's office (I'm sure I weighed more at one point) and also calculate how much lost since surgery.

I take it from my highest weight -- but I didnt really think much of it because it was during this process that I started to lose weight, so I dont think it really matters in the long run.

My pre op was only 2 weeks so at home I use that weight (304), at the drs office they use the weight at surgery (296). The dr likes to think in % of excess lost since surgery as well. They all work for me as long as I’m losing and feeling good!

I calculate from the date of my first WLS consultation, which is my highest weight (412) and from my day of surgery weight (310). However when I talk about it I generally just talk about the bigger number. The numbers being today 117.5 and 15.5 respectively.

I use my weight when I started RNY pre-op dieting 6 weeks or so before surgery. I figure all that (really, not mich for me pre-surgery) is part of this gastric op process.
But I don’t go right back to ‘highest weight ever’ or ‘highest weight before my band surgery 10 years ago’.
I love having a ‘ticker’ in my signature. Makes me joyful! And even though I just moved my goal weight lower (after all, I might as well AIM to be bmi in the healthy ‘not overweight’ range, right??!

I basically calculate two numbers. My overall weight loss in a year, which just happens to be my heaviest weight and my post-op weight loss. It’s just automatically tracked in my scale’s app but I think my scale starts when I bought it but my fitness pal tracks the total. Plus, 90 is more impressive than 50.

I calculate from my 1 week pre-op diet. So I was 324 1 week prior to surgery- 316 at surgery and I’m 273-2.5 months post op so I say I’ve lost 51 lbs.

I calculate from my highest recent weight for overall loss.
Then I calculated my weight at the start of my pre-op diet to surgery day for the pre-op weight total loss.
Then I calculate my weight from my surgery day weight to now for total post op losses.
I'm also going to keep my monthly loss tallies.
I keep track with my ticker and in my signature line.

Congrats on your progress!!! Stop bringing up your weight loss with him, if he hasn't understood the struggle at this point he may never get it. Don't look to him for validation on your progress, look to yourself (and the forum we will cheer you on). He could be nervous or afraid about all the changes that you will/are going through, not saying he isn't still a tool for saying what he said, but insecurity can make people into idiots.
