  1. I'm so excited to read all of these posts! At first I saw some that were discouraging, but overall, I feel much more positive!!! I was diagnosed with PCOS after I got married and went off the pill. After many many neg. pregnancy tests, my gyn did some tests and that is when we found out I had PCOS. Honestly, I was thrilled. I know - WHAT??? I had been putting on weight since I was 27 and could not for the life of me figure out why when I was doing the same things I always had. I wasn't crazy! I had done the low carb diets (lost almost nothing on Atkins, South Beach, etc.) the only time I lost weight was when I was pregnant (thanks to Clomid). The babies (yep- twins) took all the calories and then I also got gestational diabetes so I was extremely careful with eating. Unfortunately, once they were born, I gained it all back and then some. My OB was the one to suggest the Lap Band. I stopped taking my Metformin after my 1st trimester but started again when the babies were born. The side affects were just too much esp. when I had to take care of 2 infants and I stopped again. I've been on a level weight all this time but it's still so much more than I can physically or mentally bear anymore. I am so happy to hear all the successes you fellow PCOS-ters are having. My surgeon does know I have it and I'll discuss it again with him to see how many others he's worked with. I'm scheduled right now for June 9th and can't wait! How many of you have noticed that besides regular periods, your facial hair has lessened? I don't want to have to pay for Vaniqua on top of everything else (laser didn't remove all the blond hair). Did you notice if your depression also lessened? I know I'm depressed because of the weight, but I know that PCOS can also have a big impact on it. Thanks!!!
  2. I'm also in GA and will (fingers crossed) have mine the week of the 13th! Keep in touch so I can find out how you are! Good luck!
  3. That's a great question and I hadn't thought about it. I had a c-section (for twins) and I didn't think it was that bad at all, even with all the discomfort. Knowing that you all have had both and the Lap Band is nothing in comparison makes me feel a lot more at ease! Thanks!
  4. Hi! I'm new, too! I wish you much luck with your insurance! I am going to be self pay since my husband's company opted not to approve it (although the insurance co. would allow...grrr). If my tests go well, I will also be banded in June. Keep me up to date on how your pre-op progress goes!
  5. I'm so glad you asked about this. I am pre-op and had not really thought about how my PCOS was going to affect my weight loss. I was able to lose 40 lbs. when I was pregnant (believe it or not) since I developed Gestational Diabetes and also had twins. They consumed every calorie I ate and I love them so for it! (one was 7lb7oz and the other 6lb11oz so I know they were fed plenty!) But, I gained it all back and then some after they came. I haven't been able to stay on Metformin due to the horrible side affects I was having. They were easier to deal with before, but taking care of 2 infants/toddlers, it just wasn't possible. It's so good to see a PCOS specific area here. It makes the battle to lose weight so much harder when you have this on top of everything else. I can also see where everyone else does have a different rate of loss. Do they keep people on the metformin after the surgery? How on earth would you take the large pills? How many have noticed the difference in their PCOS symptoms after they lose the weight?
  6. Hi! I am brand new to this site. I was happy to see a local board about this for support! I'm 36 and the mom to twins. I wish I had joined my local twins club before they came so I know that it's important to join LBT before I get banded. I have been going back and forth on the Lap Band for over a year now and FINALLY made the decision to go for it. I had even done my consult, pre-surgery tests and saw the nutritionist last year and then due to insurance/my own anxiety I let it go. Like most of you, I realized this was just dumb on my part and I want(& need) a better life for myself & family. I am planning to go with Dr. John Daly and just wanted to know if anyone else has gone to him. I was very comfortable at my consult but like with everything else, I have to do my research. I'm hoping to have the surgery in June (self pay so no need to worry about all the insurance hassles I dealt with last year). Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
