Hi all

I am new to the site and have been considering lap band surgery.

The question I have is, I have PCOS so will this make things any different (will I still lose weight basically) if I have the lap band !!

Oh and also, if I have the procedure done somewhere in Europe, will doctors in London accept me to go back for refills or do they only see to their own patients they have operated on.

I have PCOS and one of the main reasons I had this op was so it would improve and that hopefully I would be able to have a baby, fingers crossed.

I know some ladies who had their op aboard and now have their fills done at the same bupa hospital as me as they had had a few problems.

Well I cant help you on the London and refills part...but I do know there is a post in there that has been looked at alot and it's posted "If you have PCOS"...so keep looking and you'll find it.... Welcome to LBT!!!

i have PCOS and I had the lap band 7 months ago. I haven't lost ANYTHING! (initially 10 lbs of water weight) but im right back up to where i started. i might have aleak in band but i eat a lot less than before and haven't lost. I am trying to find other people in my situation and see their results after lap band surgery w pcos

I was banded on 11/13/07 and have lost a total of 45 lbs, 25 since the surgery. I also have PCOS, which has always made it hard for me to loose weight in the past. But I think that if you eat right and get even alittle bit of daily exercise you will loose weight once you are banded. Best of luck.

So glad I found this post. You are not alone in your worries. I have PCOS with insulin resistance. My doc put me on

Metaformin it stoped the weight gain but even with a healthy diet and a personal trainer 5 times a wek I still haven't had any luck. WLS surgery was my DR. idea so I have to hope she knows what shes talking about. Not that I haven't been doing tons of research on my own. Either way PCOS and the Band will be my first Question at my consult. Good luck to you. And All us PCOSers should keep each other posted on our progress.

I have PCOS as well - surgery 7 1/2 months ago, 81 pounds gone and feeling great. One of the best things about this for me is that now I have a regular cycle on my own, without any meds. I had to take my Provera the first month out, but since then, I've been as regular as clockwork! My fertility doc is very hopeful that having regular cycles will help us to get pregnant when we're ready.

I also have PCOS and Insulin Resistance and believe me it's extremely hard to lose weight now, I cant imagine if it's going to work with the band. :cool:So I'm very skeptical...I mean I have no problem w/ exercising and weights and eating right. With the insulin resistance it doesnt matter what I eat whether healthy or not...my body immediately stores it.:eek: So I'm hoping that getting the lapband will kick my metabolism into gear and help me burn all this crap that my body has been storing for yrs and yrs. :smile:

Oh, how I wish there was a forum for PCOS...I have it also and it's one of the main reasons why I'm going to start the process of getting the procedure. I too am pretty good about what I eat. I had a personal trainer for eight months, at a private studio who worked the hell out of me. Didn't lose a pound, but my curves were BEAUTIFUL! When he noticed I wasn't losing weight, he was the one who made me see my Dr and look into PCOS. It explains EVERYTHING going on with me-The facial hair, the occasional influx of testosterone, the HBP, etc.. I've read some research on PCOS and the first action to remedy it is weight loss, so I'm hoping this will help.

I have PCOS. I have lost 65 pounds since surgery on 1/19/07 and 15 pounds during pre-op for a total of 80. I have lost way more inches than pounds though. I have taken birth control pills for years to have and regulate periods but they have become lighter and have started coming a day earlier since being banded. My facial hair has decreased & my skin looks clearer. Before the band, I was on Glimiperide for diabetes. I dropped from one pill a day, to a half, to only when my blood sugar level spiked. I have not had to take any blood sugar medicine since September.

I, too, have PCOS and insulin resistance. I was diagnosed 10 years ago. I was on Metformin for 9 years-- from the day I was diagnosed until the day I had my lap-band surgery.

My first post on this board was something similar to the OP of this thread. I wanted to know if the lap-band could really help someone w/ PCOS lose weight. I was skeptical, as some of you are, because nothing else has worked.

I was banded 7 1/2 months ago and I've lost 88 pounds. I lost a lot at first, and it's becoming increasingly harder-- but it's working! Even though I still have to make the decision to eat the right things, it's easier to do so when you are not hungry all the time. Plus, I've noticed that I don't get the cravings for sweets and carbs like I used to.

Also, for those of you wondering, I've had regular cycles since the 2nd month out of surgery. I haven't had a regular period cycle in probably 15 years. Although I'm not actively trying to conceive, it seems miraculous to me that I'm ovulating and menstrating like a "regular" woman. It's an amazing feeling.

Good luck to all of us that are struggling with weight and PCOS. It's not an easy journey, no matter which path we take.

In this thread alone there is more info than any other I have found on this site. WE need to find away to make sure that we are easier to find. Add PCOS to our signature and mention it in your posts then when someone searches for Pcos they will find more than a few obscure messages. The band sounds like its the way to making our lives better and ultimately longer. Its like our own little miricle that losing weight is evan possible let alone being able to keep it off. We definately have some very unique challenges, but I have been very pleased so far, and yes, my cycles have returned as well.

Hi, I have PCOS too. I was banded 9-20-07 and I have lost 55 lbs. It seems like it just melted off the first couple of months and then slowed down to almost nothing. I haven't hardly lost a pound in over a month. I hope this is just a plateau that will pass soon.

I just started taking Actos plus Metformin and I am hoping that will help the weight loss too. I think it is going to be harder for us to loose weight and the key is going to be exercise. I hate to exercise, I literally have to make myself do it. I hope that gets easier as more weight comes off.

You should check out the thread that Renewedhope mentioned above. There is one very inspiring lady that lost over 100% of her excess weight and her PCOS symptoms are so much better.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. It is inspiring to see other women who have PCOS make great strides in their health after lapband.
