I agree with Shane. I'd probably just finish out your last two visits. UHC/optum accepts programs like weight watchers for supervised diet visits which wouldn't be endorsing surgery, so I see no difference with her either (if that makes sense?). Her role is to document your weight and guide your nutrition and exercise goals.
If you are set against seeing her again, I know my nurse coordinator with optum said I could see my PCP for 3 months then see a nutritionist for the next 3 months. This would satisfy their 6 month requirements even though it wouldn't be with the same provider. The 3 and 3 month is just an example, it could be any combination. I just received my approval through UHC Optum, let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with the approval process!

The first three are really close together for me, so it was hard to choose the order. My main motivation for doing this was so I could live longer and healthier for my fiance. I feel like he deserves to have someone to live a long, healthy life with.

You're paying her to provide supervised nutrition counseling not to endorse your decision to have bariatric surgery. I'm not sure why it matters whether she's for or against it.

I think there is some confusion about your two week diet. It makes sense that for the two-weeks prior to your surgery, you would be put on a liver-shrinking, ketosis-inducing low carb/low fat/low sugar diet. A day prior to surgery, it makes sense that you would only be allowed 'clear' liquids in order to ensure there is no residues in your GI-tract. It doesn't make sense that you'd be on clear liquids for the full two weeks.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I know it happened to me before I was sleeved about three & a half years ago.
Now that I'm far enough on the other side, I look at some of the food I used to shovel down & ask, "Why did this food(s) have such power over me? What about it did I let control my life?" And I reply back to myself, "I don't know."
What if - just as an experiment - you look at food & really ask yourself why it has power over you?
Good luck. You are not alone.

    Ok....whew!
Now.....let me try to be more constructive.
Pull the plug on your surgery tomorrow...because waiting until the last minute is a hundred times more obnoxious.
Then, schedule an appointment with a therapist.
You need to address getting control of your eating habits and what might be causing your difficulty with indecision.
Incidentally, indecision is a symptom of depression. If you have depression, it needs to be addressed.
I really do wish you future success, but your attitude about jerking your healthcare providers around annoys me no end.
Time to grow up a little and be responsible for what you commit to.

I went in for another one of my appointments today, this time with the nurse coordinator. She seemed surprised that I had been able to lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks and said "most people struggle to lose the excess weight." I'm a dieting pro. I've lost the same frigging 80-100 lbs for two darn decades. They've got me on a low carb diet of no more than 60 net grams (essentially Protein and veggies). I'm drinking more than 64 ounces of Water per day and walking. I'm following every last rule they laid out for me. Losing has never been my issue, maintaining has. That, of course, set off a cascade of guilt about this choice. If I can lose so easily, do I even need this? Yadda yadda yadda. Anyone else feel like this? I realize my BMI is only 39-40ish, but golly... I don't know why, but the comment just sorta hit me the wrong way.

When I first met my surgeon and he asked why I wanted the surgery, I told him that I'm not here to tell you I can't lose weight. I've lost hundreds of pounds. I just keep finding them again. I need help to maintain. After years of failure, I thought this was my best chance.

If you have already met with the surgeon your ok. for my insurance it’s based on completion of the 6 month supervised weight loss then BMI at or above 40 when meeting the surgeon then free to loose as much as you can before surgery.

_Shane_ got a reaction from GirlShrinking in Maintaining weight to get approved?
I'm a bit concerned about this myself. I was told at the beginning (in January) that I really needed to lose 10% of my excess body weight during the six-month supervised diet - which was about 10-15 pounds. I ended up losing 40 pounds thus far - which means I started the pre-op diet, that I'm on now, at 40.1 bmi. The pre-op liquid diet will drop me below 40, and there isn't anything I can do about it.
My next surgeon's office appt. is tomorrow, and if they try to weigh me, I'm going to have to have a conversation with them.

Why on earth would you be afraid of your nutritionist? Who cares what he/she thinks. Go about your business and tell them what they want to hear.

I was told by the nutritionist, while I'm on my pre-op liquid diet, to expect some type of body odors due to being in ketosis. I don't know if it's the same kind of odor you are talking about though. Could have something to do with it, I suppose.

Hi all. I'm scheduled for RNY on July 30th! I am going to go ahead and start my pre-op liver-shrinking diet today. The six-month wait went by pretty fast, fortunately.

Hello, I’m 38 and had RNY April 2017 I’m down 150lbs or so. I eat right, I have a bad day here and there. I work out 5 days a week.
It’s different and hard not to think of my self as the fat girl any more. And society is even worse, people are nicer to me talk to me out of the blue. As if I was to gross before. I’m still me the same personality.
I’m glad I had this surgery besides the 3 endoscopy and balloon dilations I had. I’m so much healthier and can keep up with my 4 year old so much better.
Obesity is in my family and my sister and mom are bigger. And I find that they volunteer me to do a lot more because “ I’m the skinny one”. As if I’m not busy enough being a single mom. But I remember how much it hurt to have that much weight on me. That’s a bit about me.

_Shane_ got a reaction from Frustr8 in Should everyone choose DS over RNY if they have the option?
I happened to talked to the "BRS" nurse today. I think Bariatric Resource Services with my insurance company. I did ask her, and she told me what I already knew, that Lap DS surgery is covered and there is a code for it.
I have an appt. on Wed. with my surgeon. I'm going to do my best to persuade him that coverage won't be an issue (strange that I should have to do that). I'll see what my options are after that.

This is my response to anyone who does not support my treatment decision: I am having surgery to treat a disease I have had all my life. It will not cure the disease but it is the best treatment option for me currently available. In 2013 obesity was classified by the AMA as a disease - a chronic disease - a chronic, deadly disease. I call it a "gateway" disease, leading one on a pathway to pick up an assortment of other diseases, eg. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, endometrial cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart and circulation disease, bad joints, liver and kidney disease, respiratory issues. And more. I have some of those. I don't want any more. Insurance will finally cover the procedure, and at 70, this is my last chance for some relief and possible remission.
Like cancers and many other diseases, a singular core cause remains elusive, but includes multiple factors like genetics, environmental pollutants, chemicals, pesticides, culture, the food industry and biology, as well as lifestyle and coping styles. I am treating this disease with the medical knowledge we have today. If I had not treated my cancer, I would be dead. If I don't treat my obesity, I will be dead soon.
