Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Congratulations! What a great feeling! It’s been really wonderful to go “closet shopping” over the last few months! I finally had to go on a big shopping trip a week or so ago because I’d finally run out of things that weren’t too big for me! I hope you’re able to replace some of what you’ve given away with things that fit - it makes SUCH a huge difference to have clothes the right size. Especially bras - I didn’t replace my bras (which were old and not fitting great in the first place) until a week or two ago and I got a fitting and got a few great bras that were the right band and cup size and WOW what a difference! I’d lost 80 lbs so it was definitely time to get a few new ones!

    Loss Reports

Starting weight: 282.4 Surgery weight: 269.5 (7/30/18 - RNY) Current weight: 206 (fluctuating between 203-206 since the beginning of February) Seeing everyone else's stats makes me feel like a little bit of a slow poke or failure, even though generally I feel great about the work I've done and progress I've made. I share that as a reminder to not get hung up on comparing yourself with others!
  3. I dunno, my hunger is the same as before. I'm about eight months out and I get SUPER hungry plenty of the time. Luckily I can often eat less to get rid of the hunger, but it's still definitely there. I think my hunger is also VERY responsive to patterns. If I get into a pattern/habit of eating frequently/too much, then my hunger kicks into high gear at those times/all the time. I started intermittent fasting and am tracking with my fitness pal to help me get back on track (and bust up a two month plateau), so I'm hoping I can retrain both my physical and head hunger a bit!

    Air Fryer Wonton Pizza Rolls

This sounds so good! Might be on the "I need an air fryer" bandwagon again!

I think I’ll try it this way for a little bit and then if I’m stalling still/again then go super strict? I like the idea of being able to start with a little Protein (and caffeine)! Thank you!

I know there’s a whole extra thread for this, but since several of you do IF I hope it’s okay to ask a newbie IF question: did I mess up before I even started if I put premier in my coffee this morning? I’d decided to start IF today (setting my window as 11a-7p), but I wasn’t thinking about it when I poured 1/3 or 1/4 of a chocolate Premier Protein into my coffee...hoping some of you do IF successfully with this slight bend to the rules? (Ps I don’t measure how much of the premier I put in my coffee because I end up drinking the rest of it over the course of the day and just track the whole container when I finish it rather than measuring each time I have a bit of it with/in something)

Wow, eating 650-800 sounds really hard (impossible) to me, but maybe that’s what I need to try in order to get my weight moving again. How much exercise are you doing with that kind of calorie intake? I asked my NUT about it and she encouraged 1000-1300 per day so I’m really surprised to see such low calories (and similarly worried about whether I could actually get myself to do calories that low)...might need to shift my mindset?

Yay! Thanks! Based on the trailer it looked very gory which is not my kind of thing. Part of why I loved Get Out was that it was mentally/psychologically terrifying but not very gory, which is more my kind of thing for horror!

I’m in a two month stall so I feel you! I’ve been hovering between 203-206 since the beginning of February, gaining and losing the same couple pounds over and over. I thought about doing a super drastic reset, but before I go there I’m going to try to take a few weeks of being really mindful about my eating and tracking everything on my fitness pal. I’m hoping that if I can cut down on all the miscellaneous other food/snacking that I have been doing unconsciously, I’ll be able to make a difference. If I can’t bust up the plateau that way then I’ll consider doing the reset with the shakes!

How was “Us”?!?! I want to see it but I’m a little nervous it’ll be too scary/gory for me! I loved Get Out but generally horror isn’t my genre... I also am not sure who I’d go with and while some movies I’m willing to do solo this one seems like I’d want to be with someone else for it...

Thank you!!! The pic is making me feel good because after two months of being stalled I’ve been feeling crappy about myself and how I look and while I’ve been trying to emotionally push past that, sometimes what I need is photographic proof as reassurance!

Just finished my first post-surgery 5K and damn that compression gear is making me look skinnnnnnyy! Also I finished in 42:53! Under 14 min mile! I’m super excited about that after having two months of not working out (injury+personal stuff happening). Looking forward to my 10K on 5/20, even if I’m feeling pretty nervous too!

So grateful for you sharing your success story! I’ve been hovering 203-206 for two months, and I kind of gave up hope of getting into the hundreds and started working on accepting this being my final weight loss total and accepting where I’m at now. I still think I’d love to lose another 20-25 lbs so I’m going to keep trying, and seeing you break through your plateau is encouraging, but at the same time I’ve also been trying to practice some self-love and self-acceptance with where I’m at now in case my body has decided it’s done!

I love my Mirena too! However, I do still have a lot of monthly PMS type symptoms and I still do have a period (I didn’t have a monthly period before surgery, but the mood and physical changes still showed up). It’s definitely less extreme but I’ve still got them!

Has anyone tried Orange theory fitness?

Jumping on an old Orangetheory thread rather than start a new one :) Questions: What is the pricing like? Trying to get a sense of how much it would be compared to my current gym. Also, I’ve lost a lot of weight and my fitness has improved but still isn’t stellar - I’m worried about keeping up. Thoughts?
  17. I’m just about 7.5 months out and I’m 79.4 pounds down. I started at 282.4, lost 13 lbs during my two week pre-op and I’m hovering around 203 now. Hoping to bust up this month-long plateau soon, but I still probably won’t hit 100 lbs down by 9 months.  I’m hoping to be there by my surgery anniversary 7/30, but there’s part of my brain that’s very worried about whether my body has decided it’s done losing...

    Any regrets with RNY?

I didn’t tell my mom until a month or two before surgery because there’s SO much baggage between us when it comes to weight. After surgery I set some specific rules for my family and what kinds of things they could say/mention re: surgery, and that’s helped me a lot. It’s hard because none of them struggle with weight beyond like wanting to lose 10-15 lbs so they didn’t and couldn’t and can’t understand the decision or the process.  I find the journaling to be a helpful way to have a dialogue with myself when I don’t have someone else to talk it through with! I also find it helpful to just let my mind vomit out all the things I am terrified about so then I can take a step back and weed through what is rational and worth considering versus what is just my anxiety brain doing its thing, you know?

    Any regrets with RNY?

Also feel free to message me or tag me on this thread when you have those anxiety moments and want to bounce them off someone else! I know for me it was/is easy to spiral at times and just being able to get it all on paper/in a message really helped me/helps me!

    Any regrets with RNY?

Yeah I have to remind myself that I was a size 24 before surgery, and it’s been easy for me to adjust to my “new normal” and today was a big reminder of how far I’ve come. Later tonight I’ll pull out my surgery journal and find my favorite prompts I used. It’s also been a nice thing to look back on along the way. I think I felt normal by day four or five after surgery. Days 1-3 were blerg but not terrible and there was a very clear improvement by day four post, and I felt totally normal by day five and beyond. I got a bit tired of liquids and I had a weird rash for a few weeks but other than that it was no problem! Oh, and I just turned 32!!

    Any regrets with RNY?

So, not to comment on my own vanity photos BUT I’ve been so mired in a monster plateau for like 3-4+ weeks and it’s been easy to stop realizing how much progress I’ve really made. So, I’m going to say wow, what a difference!!

    Any regrets with RNY?

First pic is from late June/early July around highest weight of 282.4. Second pic from today trying on clothes at 204.6. Pardon the weird face, that’s my “hmm should I get this?” face :) I think my goal is to lose another 25-30 if I can :)

    Any regrets with RNY?

Lol! It’s so annoying. You should have seen me when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. So.... were you ok anxiety wise before and after the procedure? Have you been able to get excited? I definitely had my anxiety moments in the wait between first appointment and surgery, but I tried to use my mindfulness techniques and redirect my thoughts via journaling away from anxiety and toward who I might be and what I might do without the weight holding me back. It’s been amazing how many things I’ve tried and how much more I’ve been living since I had surgery. So many things I’ve been wanting to do forever that I got to check off my list, the kinds of clothing I get to wear now, and everything. Heck, I just spent hours at the Mall of America HAPPILY trying on clothes all over the place and buying size 12s and Ls in “normal” stores. It was a little overwhelming to have so many choices but also so exciting! I don’t usually post pics of myself on here but I’ll whip up a before/after in just a moment if that’d be helpful! :)

    Any regrets with RNY?

Hi Annie! I’m also Annie! Wow! I’m a little over 7 months out and I’ve lost just about 80lbs. I originally was sure I wanted the sleeve, but after researching the statistics about regain and looking at my eating patterns and how those would be impacted by sleeve vs bypass, I chose bypass. If you have any questions about the bypass experience/the first year let me know! I just wanted to say hi from a fellow Annie :)
