Fluffy Grandma got a reaction from FluffyChix in How Come We Never Look Like We Think We Look (Especially in Photos)???
I'm always surprised when I catch a reflection of myself in a window somewhere. OK, not surprised...horrified, lol.
I checked the mirror at home before I left the house. Who the heck is that?

"Why wear the willpower of the patient out before surgery?"
Answer: To prevent death and injury. And to protect yourself against malpractice suits and insurance hikes.
Bariatric surgeons don't owe anyone anything. It is entirely at their discretion who they choose to do surgery on and who they believe will be a safe risk for a procedure they perform. What happens to you...is their butt on the line as much as yours.
They have a right to refuse services to people who are not yet able to follow instructions and keep themselves safe. And they are smart to do so.
As a patient, if you can comply with the requirements of a program, you have a right to be treated.
But you don't get to make the rules. The doctor doing the surgery does.

Peaches, I really don't want to leave you with the impression that I mean to be critical of you or hurtful. That is truly not my intent. I do wish the very best for you.
I am absolutely rooting for you. (and everyone else here) because I absolutely know how hard it is.
But in fairness...there is a difference between your surgeon being nasty about something...and being extremely firm about a safety issue.
Please take your safety seriously. Good luck.

    I’ll chime in here.
I had RYN Oct 2016 weighing 292. I had a lower body lift Aug 2017 at 197. The lowest I got to after my skin surgery was 184. I’m currently 190....down 5 from a very enjoyable Christmas! Back on track and feeling great. I never really exercised much just some treadmill walking and very active with my son.
I think the key is moderation, but also not letting things get to far off track that it’s hard to pull them back. My goal weight is 185 and I complete feel like these 5lbs will be no problem. Just logging my food again and trying to limit treats. I’m a size L-XL/12-14 and love everything about life right now. Planning a second surgery to have a small revision to the upper tummy and a breast lift/augmentation (maybe arms and thighs too) in April :-)
    Hope that helps!

When you are in a restaurant with friends, family or coworkers as everyone orders full course meals. You get a stare and gaze (very strange look and a silent pause) from your party including the waitress or waiter for ordering a small cup of Soup or a kids meal.

That's such a good gift and no it's not crazy. I'm doing something similar. I told myself i'm treating myself to the new range rover velar. And i'm going to treat myself to whatever else i want in time because i'm finally able to enjoy my life.

Thanks all. I think it’s good that we would be having it done separately. Our kids are grown and we live alone so we need to take care of each other. I do want us to be on the same page at approximately the same time as far as diet goes. So, having the surgery done apart but not too far apart.

So, no judgement here--just an observation--cuz maybe you haven't thought about this yet...In the early days of research I was like you...dayum! Am I gonna have to break up with mah food? Cuz, you know, I'm not jiggy with that! And now, because I've had a Vulcan mind-meld or shift in the tectonic plates or something, I'm like, "DAYUM!!! I can't WAIT to be satisfied eating tiny portions and btw, I hope that lasts forevs!!!!
Cuz, think of the food savings! Right? Think of the decrease in metabolic disease cuz of natural calorie restriction. One thing I look at is I watch skinny peeps eat. Most of the ones I know, eat very "thin-like"-- super healthy, small portions, small servings of carby shenanigans...and I'm like. I WANT that!!! I want to eat like them.
So, maybe along with your research, maybe you will consider beginning shifting your relationship with food. Will you still find joy and pleasure in a good meal? Sure! Why not!? Life is made for happiness in all areas. You just won't and shouldn't super-size it any longer!

I can eat anything at this point, but I focus on Protein, vegetables, and fruits. I also eat some complex carbs like Beans and bran Cereal. I try to avoid sugars and "white carbs" (white rice, white flour, potatoes) but I do eat them occasionally.
I don't eat microscopic portions anymore. I'm just more of your normal "light eater". I doubt anyone would guess I had surgery , because I know a lot of "light eaters", none of whom have had weight loss surgery. At this point, I can maintain my weight as long as I average about 1700 calories a day, which really isn't too much less than the normal 2000-ish for someone my weight/height.

I have the sleeve and am 6 to 7 months out. I can eat whatever I want just smaller portions. I tend NOT to eat lots of bread or sandwiches cause it fills you too fast and you can't get your Protein requirements, and its a different full feeling, like a bad one.
My main diet consists of eggs, chicken, steak, chili, salmon, tuna steak, yogurts, cottage cheeses, nuts and salads...I have the occasional slice of pizza or 1/4 of a piece of sub sandwich, but processed coldcuts dont sit to well with me..
You basically have to see what you like to eat again and you will be eating smaller, human sized portions of it. Like now I can barely eat 2 eggs and 4 oz of Icelandic yogurt for Breakfast, where my old self would eat 3 to 4 egg omelette with cheese, 2 slices of toast with PB&J and 4 slices of turkey bacon, and 3 cups of coffee and still be hungry an hour later..

The major difference is separating your liquids from solids and not drinking with your meals, you dont realize how used to it you have become.

My hubby and I had ours about 2 weeks apart. We could have had them 2 days apart but were hesitant- our case manager told us that we’d be fine 2 days apart but with 4 kids and Christmas time we didn’t want to both be down. We would have been fine with the 2 days apart and had no issues with the 2 weeks. It does make it easier to keep it close when it comes to food stages. We are now lil over a year out and I’m down 153 from my highest and about 10-20 pounds to my ultimate goal. Loving life in my new smaller body. Hubby hasn’t done as well as he didn’t work past what the surgery will do but he’s off his diabetes meds so that’s a success in itself.

Yes, someone had to drive them home but that's standard for any surgery (at least, every surgery I've ever had). The wife went back to work after 4 days, and the hubby took two or three weeks off. They didn't really require much help. They have teenage kids, so I'm sure they helped some but not much.

I talked to my surgeon about the pain level, and he said it's nothing like what I experienced with my C-sections so I think hubby and I will be fine post op.

My wife got a sleeve Nov 24. I got mine on Dec 20. We figured it was enough apart to take care of each other. It's gone well so far, almost a month out for me.

That's an easier question. I was up and about after 10 days and went back to work after two weeks.
