I’m liking all the comments on this thread! I started my weight loss off at 6’6” 485 pounds. At dr 1st consult I was 435. Gained back 10 lbs but will have it off long before my 6 week pre op Appt in January. Surgery for feb 14 17. It does take the edge off a bit reading where you guys have been threw all of it. Thanks

Anyways, I wonder if I was the only one who came into this thread expecting some Metallica reference.

My current BMI is 27 and my body fat percentage is 25. I'm a 6', 49-year-old man who started the process at 410#, with RNY surgery in March 2016, and now weigh 207#. My original goal weight was 200#. This is where I was 15 years ago when I lifted weights and looked my best before becoming morbidly obese in recent years. However, now that I'm almost there, I don't look good naked, lol. My loose skin issues aren't too bad compared to others (I weight-trained as I lost), but it sags a bit in the abdomen​, inner-thighs, butt, and under my chin. I've read that often what we perceive as loose skin is actually deflated fat underneath that clings to the skin, and the best way to get rid of it is to go for 10% body fat (for men, 20% for women), at which point you can determine whether contouring surgery is needed. I have a ways to go as I focus on body composition instead of weight. Hopefully, with my past weight training experience, I can build up enough muscle to skip skin removal. Fingers crossed.

My original goal weight was in the overweight category simply because I couldn't imagine weighing less than that (210), and I wanted to have a goal that was attainable. I blew right past that and have been in the healthy category for almost a year now.

Happy anniversary! Not a single person knows about my surgery other than all the bariatric pal folks! No family, no friends, no coworkers. I am 2 weeks out today and seem to be doing well.
I have my first event where I will be eating with people in a week and a half so I'm going to have to mentally prepare for that. Perhaps just getting over a stomach bug if any comments are made. It IS winter after all.
