HealthierGirlLife2018 reacted to Alex Brecher in 5 Weight Loss Surgery Rules that Apply to Everyone – Even You
You may be convinced that you need to get enough Protein, but what about the other post-op rules? As many as there may be, they are there for a reason. You are almost sure to lose more weight and stay healthier if you follow these WLS rules.

    1. Drink fluids. Drink the fluids your surgeon told you to drink. Drink the entire amount your surgeon told you to have. Have that amount – or more – every single day. Anything low-calorie, non-carbonated, and without caffeine counts, including Water, water with flavor enhancers, sipping broth, and decaffeinated low-acid coffee or tea.
Many WLS patients believe that at least 64 Fluid ounces means that you’re doing well if you’re getting almost 64 ounces on some days and a lot less on other days. If you are one of them, you are risking poorer weight loss, and, possibly more common than you might think, a trip to the ER for dehydration.
    2. Measure your food. food scale, measuring cups and spoons, or counting from a package, the only way to know for sure how much you are eating is to measure it. Start guessing instead of weighing, and you will quickly increase your portion sizes without realizing it. It is one of the laws of nature.
    3. Get help. There is no doubt that you are a strong person; it takes courage and tenacity to commit to bariatric surgery and beyond. Regardless of how well you can do on your own, you can do better with help. Be self-sufficient and determined, but be wise enough to reach out for help to be your very best.
If you cannot even imagine how others might be able to help you, here are some ideas:
Your medical team for food rules, post-op recovery help, and emotional stress strategies. Weight loss pals for accountability, and exercise pals to keep you on track. WLS peers for recipe tips, new product sightings reviews, and menu ideas for each stage of the post-op diet. 4. Log your food. You cannot argue with science, and science says that logging your food works better than not logging your food. Logging keeps you honest and keeps you from “forgetting” about the taste here and bite there that add real calories and carbs. Logging takes very little time, especially if you use an app that gets to know your regular foods. If an app is not your cup of tea, a spiral notebook works fine, too.
    5. Plan ahead. What do these mistakes have in common?
You are starving on your way home and know you’ll be sitting in traffic, so you drive During your snack attack, you grab the first thing you see: a handful of potato chips. You order a veggie burger, thinking it is healthy, and then realize you could have saved 9 grams of sugar and 170 by getting a hamburger instead. You order a chicken salad, then realize later you would have done better with a cheeseburger and fries. Answer: they could have been avoided with better planning. Pack your own meals so you are not stuck going to restaurants. Stash healthy Snacks in the car so you can nosh on them instead of whatever the nearest drive-through has. Check the menu nutritionals before ordering or, better yet, before going to the restaurant. Always think ahead so you are not caught off guard.

The other day I wrote a post about being on a stall....and finally having my stall break.
On the day of my surgery 12/5....I weighed 230
At the beginning of this week....I was down to 220....where I'd been stuck for two and a half weeks.
My luck changed on Tuesday when I lost a couple of pounds, and then Wednesday, I lost a couple more. I'd had my period....so figured I was retaining Water.
But that got me down to 216....which made me pretty happy. 14 pounds five weeks from surgery seemed very reasonable to me, since my excess weight on the day of surgery was 60 pounds. That was like a 23% excess weight loss. (average is 18% for the first month)
    SO HERE'S THE SURPRISE...
At the doctor today, I weighed 212. Which is four pounds less than I thought I weighed....and a far cry from the 220 I thought I weighed on Monday. LOLOLOLOL!
I was so shocked I asked my nutritionist to weigh herself to make sure the doctor's scale wasn't wonky. It wasn't.
I came home and replaced the battery in my home scale and guess what? 212.
    Good grief!
To anyone stuck on a stall....it might be a longshot....but if you have any doubts....replace the battery in your scale!

I'm 5 weeks out and I haven't experienced head hungry but man oh man have my taste buds change from week to week. One week I like one thing and the next I'm like keep that away from me. The only things I've had cravings for are a salad and salsa. Think positive and remember you will get through this!! You got this!!

Hi dfluke87 I had my surgery Nov 27 and I'll have pain still if I move the wrong way or bending over the wrong or my biggest struggle has been with wearing normal pants. My wrist of my pants hit right where my 2 incisions...I say 2 because I have the one where they took out my stomach than I have one by my belly button. Even sitting a certain way causes pain. So you aren't alone and don't forget everyone heals differently and everyone handles pain differently. But you aren't alone this was a major surgery and they are cutting through your muscles so it will take some time to heal and the pain to fully go away. I sleep with an ice pack on my stomach every night. You got this!

I'm 24 and just was sleeved on 11/27 so I'm still recovering but I do not regret getting surgery at all. I know it will benefit me in the long run. Also I've noticed a lot of articles about weight loss surgery and how much they benefit people. I hear some people talk about craving sweets or missing eating this type of food but honestly for me I've been craving a salad and salsa (I know the salsa is a weird one to crave) but I really only get hungry once maybe twice a day now. Like I said I don't regret getting this done at all.

I just made a new treat I thought I would share. I used 1/4 cup of 0% Fage and 1 tsp of sugar free Fat Free Jello Cheesecake pudding (mix only) and 1 tsp of Torani Sugar Free Raspberry Syrup. It was pretty good and 6g of Protein. It came out really thick, so I might use a little less of the pudding mix next time.
    Just thought I would share

HealthierGirlLife2018 reacted to imbabiluv in My New Crockpot Sensation (for those on pureed foods)
Well I am on day 3 of pureed foods and I wanted something different so I put together this little meal in my crockpot and puréed it.
    Ingredients:
Boneless and skinless chicken breast (I only used one because I was unsure of how it would turn out)
1 can of carrot slices drained
    Low sodium chicken broth
1 low sodium chicken stock concentrate
*Optional mashed sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes about enough to to thicken once done
If using pouch potatoes use 1 pouch, don't add the Water but add the milk
I added all the ingredients in my crockpot and set it on high ( low if you want to let it go longer while your busy). I cooked in on high for 4 hours. Check to see that the chicken pulls apart without no problem. I added one pouch of sweet mashed potatoes and the 1/2 cup of skim milk. I pureed it all. You can store this in containers or try cooling it off completely. Putting the purée into an ice cube tray. Freeze it. Then put into freezer bags and freeze them. Each time you need one just grab what you need and defrost. Heat it up by microwave.
This was so good my kids loved it. It was something new and different. I hope someone can use it.

Yes you can. I have a heart problem and I was sleeved on 11/27. Seeing a cardiologist and getting clearance from that provider is mainly for the anesthesiologist seeing as they are the ones monitoring you while you are under. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your able to get the surgery done but I don't see why you wouldn't be able too.

I was sleeved 11/29 and have lost 28 lbs since surgery date and 50 lbs since 2 week pre op liquid diet. No complications, no issues with getting my recommended fluids in. My doctor has never stressed getting Protein in. They want veggies first then protein. Seems counter intuitive to most recommendations I've read on here. I'm just starting my soft food stage today.
