I got pregnant after WLS. I got pregnant about 3 months out. I was not aware that I was. I did not know (I rarely get periods, so not getting one was normal). I was working out a lot, not sleeping enough, highly stressed out from work, not eating like I should and skipping Vitamins. I was about 5 weeks when I miscarried and found out.
It really messed with me mentally because I felt like had I known, I would have done better. I would have relaxed more, slept more when I was tired, took my vitamins. Made myself eat more. I fell into a depression for a little bit, blaming myself.
However, since I realized that I could have children, should the day come again, I want to be the best and most active me I could possibly be.
I never said anything about it on here because I just did not want people judging me. I never thought I could have children. I was told from 16 that it was not an option.
This is why I say, find an OBGYN who is familiar with WLS and pregnancies. Make sure you are eating enough, cut back on the exercise and when you are tired, sleep. Get a good night sleep. Do not put undue strain on your body and do not let things stress you out.
I know you wanted a positive story but sometimes the negative ones, help the most.

At this stage, you're probably on puree foods? It's quite easy to meal plan as you can barely eat anything. I'd make some batches of Soup or whatever you're eating and divide it into tiny portions. Once you move onto proper food, you can check out youtube for millions of ideas. In my experience, It's easy to meal prep following surgery because you always have tons of leftovers. If you live alone, you can basically cook twice a week and have enough food to get you through.
I only shop once a week on Sundays, at the beginning of the week, I have salads and fresh things, by the end of the week, I'm having more vegies which last longer in the fridge. When you cook, make large portions so you can freeze extras. Buy tupperware. I find it helpful to have cans of tuna, Beans, tomatos on hand too. Resist the urge to order food in. I'm so proud of the fact that I don't buy lunch every day at work anymore. I have Protein Bars and tuna in my desk so even if I forget to pack something, there is no excuse! By meal planning, you will know what you're eating and save money!

    Hello all!
I am looking to hear your stories on how your PCOS changed after weight loss surgery. I tried to conceive my first child for 2 years and was never successful. I decided that it was time to take my health more seriously. I opted for the gastric sleeve and I am looking at a surgery date for the end of March or beginning of April. So far I have been able to loose 30 pounds 4 months into the 6 month diet and exercise program. I had what I think could have been a period last week. It was extremely light for me but it did last for a good 8 days or so. I don't even remember the last time that I had a period without it being induced so I am hopeful that my cycles and fertility will restore itself after surgery. I want to hear what surgery has done for you, your PCOS, your fertility, and overall experience with pregnancy after weight loss surgery! Thank you all and I cant wait to read what you have to say!

Yoga is amazing and I recommend it to everyone!

Yin or restorative is a great place to start. It’s the slower relaxation type. Hatha focuses on holding poses and is often a good next step. Many yoga places do a “beginners” or “intro” class and it’s usually a Hatha class.

Then it’s kinda what you prefer. I love vinyasa, it’s a practice that links poses together into a “flow.” Some places call it “flow” yoga. I also like Ashtanga. It’s a challenging practice strength and flexibility wise, but you can sort of turn your brain off because it’s the same pose sequence every time.

There’s also classes they call “power yoga” and they are usually Hatha or Vinyasa with more of an emphasis on the strength poses than the flexibility ones.

I tend to avoid Bikram because I think the founder was kind of a jerk. Generic “hot” yoga is a better choice if you like that kind of thing (I don’t, lol!). There’s also the more meditation/breathwork ones like Khundalini. I do those occasionally but they aren’t my favorite.

Most gyms have basic classes. Most dedicated yoga studios (where I Take now, though I started at a gym) have specials where you can take unlimited classes for 30 days for a special deal for first time clients. It’s a good way to try different teachers.

And that’s my best reccomendation! Find an instructor who explains modifications for different people and abilities, one who encourages a non competitive “come as YOU are TODAY” approach, and one who clicks with you. I have my favorites and some I like when I’m in one mood and some I like when I’m in a different mood!

You will find a place you feel comfortable and keep experimenting until you find “your tribe”

My doctor has wanted me walking since I woke up from surgery! They really push the fact that exercise and diet combined play an important role in losing weight and maintaining your weight loss. They suggested to start slow and work up to more strenuous activity when I am ready. They said no strength training until 6 weeks out, though. I've been doing a variety of things, like the elliptical, treadmill, and Arc Trainer. I even play Just Dance if I don't feel like going to the gym. I just don't go super hard.

Yeah some people argue that you can't get enough calories to support it or it will throw you into a stall....

Can be true for some people, it wasn't for me. I couldn't get more than 600 calories for a number of months and not more than 900 calories for 6-9 months... but I started couch to 5k at four weeks out and yoga shortly after. Did my first 5k at 5 months out and half marathon at 10 months out.

I now run half and full marathons--20-30 miles per week and 4-5 hours of yoga a week.

I reached goal at a year out and now maintain at around 2500 calories per day as a 5'6" 135lb woman.

So try and see what works for you!

Before surgery, I too was very active. I lifted weights 4X weekly, and did cardio 3X weekly. It was hard to stop that level of activity, but of course, I did.
On day 7 post-op, I started walking 45 minutes every day at a slow-moderate pace. Over the past 5 weeks, I have kept the same routine, but have stepped up the intensity. I started out walking maybe 1-2mph, and now I walk 4mph with a much higher elevation. Next week, I will start light weight training 4days per week, and gradually increase the weight and intensity over time.
The takeaway is that you have to take it slow. Listen to your body. It will tell you when you are ready. It will also tell you if you are prematurely doing too much. Make sure that you are getting in your liquids to avoid dehydration.

So before surgery I was killing it with exercising. I did cardio 3 times a week and strength training 3 times a week as well. I was doing so good that during my bypass surgery, my surgeon said he was shocked at the amount of muscle he had to work through. Which made me feel a little bad ass. So here I am, 13 days after surgery and ready to get back in the gym but I'm wanting to be smart. I started today with 15 minutes on the treadmill and 5 minutes on the bike (which didn't feel great). I feel like I did nothing, didn't even break a sweat. So let me ask you guys, what are you doing? Can I push it harder? Am I being impatient? How do I know what's too much?

    I’m 6 weeks out:
breakfast: 2 eggs, tablespoon feta, 1/4 c fresh spinach cooked into omelette
    snack: Greek yogurt
    snack: latte
    lunch: 2oz chicken salad
    snack: string cheese
dinner: chili or other Protein dense Soup
    snack: applesauce
sometimes cottage cheese instead of yogurt or sub breakfast for a Protein Shake (rarely). But i’ve been eating very similar to this since 1 week out. Usually get about 800-900 cal.

    Ok, here's my plan:
    Meal 1: 4oz cottage cheese (13g prot.)
Meal 2: 3.5 oz black Beans and 1 egg (14g)
Meal 3: 4oz tuna with a little mayo (25g) probably have to "finish later"
    Meal 4: 1oz nuts or seeds (7g)
    Meal 5: 1.5 cups milk (12g)
Since milk isn't really a meal, and the nuts are a snack... it all works.
You can switch out the fish for other meat and change up the type of beans.
If you can't fit in this much food, make it a goal and drink a Protein Shake.
