The guidelines that I received 5 years ago from my surgeon was weekly for DS patients.
I am a RNY gastric bypass patient, and my guidelines were B1 daily. After the first year, my surgeons office modified my requirement to weekly.

I take 1800 mg calcium citrate, 3 Multivitamin ADEK, 30 mg Iron+C, and 5000 mg Biotin daily. My doctor recently suggested Vitamin B1 once weekly.

@Kat11929 I had the traditional full DS in June 2017 and have lost 80 pounds. I started with a BMI of 40 and have decreased it to a low 26. Another three pounds and I'll have a BMI of 25. Because of my lower starting BMI, my doctor made my common channel a little longer than most normal DS patients. I wear a size 8 pants and medium top. I only take 2 chewable calciums, two ADEK Vitamins, and one B12 a day. I don't feel that's unreasonable and my blood levels are excellent. I have opted to include an additional Vitamin D3 because we don't get a whole lot of sun year round here in Utah due to the inversion. I've never had a problem with Constipation. I do get gas in the evening sometimes if I eat the wrong things. My health has improved significantly. While I didn't have any co-morbidities except being overweight, my quality of life is much improved. As Discostu stated, tying my shoes used to be a breath holding experience, and now it's no big deal. I'm no longer embarrassed to have my picture taken, which is huge for me. My double chin is gone, something that has haunted me for the past 20 years. Would I have the DS surgery again? In a heartbeat.

Re insurance—read your policy. Many exclude it completely, some have specific requirements like pannus/apron must hang below pubic bone or must remove 500g volume of breast.

    1. How much is whole body? Arms? Thighs? Breasts? Tummy Tuck or circumferential lift? Probably not. I had more done at one time than most and I got arms breasts and tummy tuck. Most surgeons I spoke to said only two areas at a time. A few Mexican surgeons will do even more at a time but it’s limited by time spent under anesthesia safely. If they will do twilight sedation or have two surgeons working together that can help. But also think recovery. Can you get around and function while healing?

    2. Yes. Much harder. Especially if you have any Lipo for contouring or any muscle repair or tightening.

    3. I consulted In Mexico but decided against it. For me the worry about handing things if anything went wrong scared me. Many gave great experiences and pay a fraction of the cost.

    4. Interview a number of surgeons. Look at lots of pictures of their work. You will know when you find the right one.

    5. Depends on what you mean by full body. For the three areas I did the California docs I interviewed were all in the 22-26k range. Mexico was closer to 8-12k.

    7. I recovered very quickly compared to most because I had absolutely NO lipo which is often the worst. I had muscle repair/tightening in my adominals though. I was functioning well by about two weeks out.

    7. Amazing. Life changing. My plastics were 3.5 years ago.

I am now 13 days post op. I feel good. Yesterday I weighed in at 203 - not bad at all. I had my first follow-up last Wednesday, 7/18. Everything checked out fine, and I was given the green light to move to soft foods. And, because shrimp is easily digestible, I was also given the "ok" to eat this - and I had no issues with it (had it for lunch and dinner that day). It feels so good to be eating real food again. My current goal is 30g of Protein per day, but I've been getting closer to 40 and going to take in more protein Water to get it even higher. Per doc's instructions, I will start lifting 5 lb weights for my arms to build some muscle. I've been getting in my water a lot easier now - meeting my 64 oz daily goal.

DS switch, hiatal hernia repair and gall bladder removed. tough but I made it! didn't feel better until about 3 months out I almost feel normal again! you will do fine! Better to get all three done now rather than separate! Good luck! you wont regret it!

Excited but nervous! I will be having a revision from the sleeve to the Loop/SIPS. My surgeon will be removing my gall bladder, fixing my hernia and then doing the Loop DS. Has anyone had all 3 of these done together? It just seems like so much! Thanks! 😊

Duodenal switch! Wow you rock! That's a tough one. Ugh the smells, the smell of coffee makes me gag, but I never drank coffee anyway. Lots of smells make me gag, it's lovely. I'm three months out too, I hate the waiting to drink part, mostly because I have trouble getting my fluids in. I have an issue with carb cravings, that's why I stay as far away from them as I can, but if I have any kind of sweet thing, it takes me a week to stop craving sweet stuff or even crackers but I don't give in, I know my triggers. This only happened because of a bite of my daughter's birthday cake! Ugh. I hope everyone is doing well, I'm in the midst of a stall that started about 4-5 days ago

REMINDER: Do not take Iron and Calcium together, even in or with a Multi-Vitamin. The reason is because they impede absorption of the other so if taken together you will not be getting adequate iron or calcium each day and could become anemic and have mineral deficiencies. The correct way to take them is 2-4 hours apart. As well, thyroid medication can also be negatively impacted if taken with iron and calcium.

    I'm an April surgery (2005).
I puked a lot my first year. Mostly bc I was drinking too much after eating as I was parched. It could definitely be bc you're eating too quickly or too much too quickly. This isn't to say you're eating too much (especially if it's protein) it just may be too much at one sitting. I still need 2 or more sittings for a meal.

My surgery was 4/17. I had 2 stalls one lasted a week and the other about 10 days. I started to eat stuff recently that was on my nutritionist's list of "some people may not tolerate it" like corn, big NO there. I tried deli turkey, nope. I haven't thrown up from food disagreeing with me since starting puréed foods and that was day one and that was it. So now I try new things only at home. Otherwise I'm doing pretty well, I journal, I keep my carbs and sugar low and TRY to eat slowly. Since the start of my pre-op liquid diet (that's how my doctor measures it) I've lost 56 pounds. I fight hunger pangs since day one, but I haven't let it get me, I haven't cheated yet only hard thing is getting my fluids and social situations.

Glad to see I’m not alone, I have no desire for food, and when I think I am I take a bite and it’s a turnoff, thank God for shakes, Premier shakes are a lifesaver at 30grams each, and I bought unflavored Protein Powder and add it to smoothies, for an attempt to get fruits and veggies in, I’m trying to be creative....this too shall pass...

I really like ProtiDiet Water flavorings. It isn’t powder, so no chalky aftertaste. It is more of a gel to mix in your water. I have had a peach mango one almost every day for 4 years. It has 15 grams of Protein. My surgeon sells them pretty cheap but I know they are also on Amazon.

If sweet Protein Shakes are gross to you right now, consider the Unjury chicken Soup mix. It tastes pretty okay and it’s a very nice break from sweet-sweet shakes. Good luck!

Your tastebuds and what you can tolerate change after surgery. Maybe trying some different foods that you wouldn't normally eat would help make everything more appetizing. You are not alone. There are days when I am not hungry at all and days when I want to eat everything lol I agree with the Protein Water. I know Premier makes a version.
