  1. it is what it is. Obviously, you can stretch and tone and hope for the best....but don't expect miracles. When you're done...if you don't like how it looks, consider plastics. Youth helps. Weighing less when you start helps. Good collagen genetics help. There is some evidence that losing weight slower helps, but the bottom line seems to be that loose skin is nearly unavoidable when you have a significant weight loss.
  2. My surgeon required barium x-rays of the upper GI. If they looked normal, you were good to go. If you flunked (I flunked), you had to have an endoscopy and biopsy any gastritis legions for H. Pylori. Was a piece of cake. No biggie at all.
  3. It gets better. Hang in there.
  4. The standing date is to go to the library with hubby Saturday morning. After which, we'll go to lunch...then, we'll go walking somewhere. Parks, forest, zoo, Then, we'll come home, read, watch movies, be lazy cats. Sunday, we'll do light projects, clean up, go somewhere....swimming, a museum, visit friends, hang out....or simply hang out in bed having naughty fun time and reading our books. LOL. We're boring people. We play cribbage together and watch stupid stuff on the internets, and sometimes we take a little road trip and visit our kid at college where we'll do some sort of weird little adventure, see new things. My bestie and I go on weird missions together. A couple weeks ago, we dressed all in black and snuck into her Ex husband's yard and rescued a lawn ornament sculpture her (now deceased) dad gave her, that she forgot to take after the divorce (was winter). 15 years later, she was still obsessing about it....so we played Mission Impossible one night...and got it back:) Technically, we stole it. LOL:) We also do haunted houses, flea markets, ghost hunt, and make lots of weird art projects together. This year we're going to go out in canoes, gather up drift wood, build an elephant, and set it on fire. The boys will probably help. And if the kiddo is home, we'll have an elephant burning campout for her friends.
  5. Mike, you're awesome! Great work!
  6. Call your doctor. Weakness like you're describing isn't normal. You should be walking around every hour to prevent clots and not napping....because you need every hour possible to sip fluids. The walks don't have to be huge...just little walks around your house every hour. Sounds to me like you're getting dehydrated or have something else going on. You're also suffering some buyer's remorse....which is pretty common. It gets better. I am very concerned by the weakness you're describing. When I was four days post-surgery, I was comfortable walking 5 miles a day. I was picking up my house, doing light housework, shopping, etc. I felt terrific. I know experiences vary....but if you're usually a high energy person...the dramatic shift you're describing is troubling.
  7. I love the idea of the box and being able to try small quantities. Why? Cause all this stuff is expensive. I don't want to pay $12 for a whole box of a flavor of something I don't like. I think people don't realize how expensive many of these products are. We're not talking going to Sams and getting an economy size box of stuff for $50. We're talking about an assortment of specialty items...which tend to be incredibly pricey. It is what it is. I think it's a really good deal. I really like the idea of being able to taste things before I commit to big quantities.
  8. This surgery will not control your hunger. It might change it, lessen it. Food will be different, cravings will be different. But you'll still get hungry. It will also not change your ability to overeat yourself into gaining weight. It will be more difficult than before to overdo it, because you'd have to eat many times a day, but you can definitely still get hungry and eat yourself to weight gain. Ultimately, the surgery doesn't do the "work"....you have to do the work. The surgery gives you a jump start. It gives you restriction so that your ability to screw up in one setting is minimal. And it gives you a chance to revamp your diet and pick a forever diet that is more sensible. It gives you more rapid reward for good habits like exercising, sticking to your calorie budget, and making good choices. But it's no miracle. In the end, all the work is on you.
  9. Shite happens. Tomorrow is a new day:)
  10. Ich helfe gern:)
  11. Here's a reality check for ya: abusive relationships make us sick, sabotage our hard work, and keep us fat. Ditch anyone who treats you like this. Yesterday. OP's boyfriend might just need an attitude adjustment that could be achieved with a little education and a heart to heart. But if he doesn't knock this crap off....only a doormat would put up with it. Some nonsense isn't worth working to correct. Makes too much of your life toxic.
  12. Are you thinking of Kakatlady? She's still around. She had a name change...she's Frust, now:) Might not be the same person, as she has not yet had her surgery...but she's still trying.
  13. About any pharmacy. Yep, it's got a smell....kinda like baby powder/shampoo...I'm not crazy about the smell, but it seems to go away pretty quick.
  14. The best answer is...ask your doctor or check your packet. For maintenance after sleeve, I take: 2 Flinstone's complete chewables 500mcg B12 B50 Complex 4 Calcium Citrate 315mg D3 5000 iu (I am D deficient...most people don't take this one)
  15. Or...the nurse understand that high protein diets can further stress kidneys that may have already been damaged by diabetes. High protein diets can also be hard on the cardiovascular system long term. There will be a lot of controversy about this topic because high protein low carb diets are very popular right now and some folks do very well on them. But yes, my nutritionist would say the same thing to you. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/high-protein-diets/faq-20058207
  16. Someone here...a man...recommended Bio Oil for wrinkles and saggy skin. Have been using it for about ten days on my Turkey Neck and can see a noticeable difference! Have been putting it on after I shower in the AM, and again before bed. Really not a big believer in "wrinkle creams"...but have been pleasantly surprised. Figured it didn't hurt to pass this on. And whoever told me about it...thank you! (and sorry I'm not giving you credit by name) Edit: I've been racking my brain and I think it was James Marusek who mentioned the Bio Oil to me. Thanks James!
  17. Stop eating at 8pm. Make it a firm rule. Only herbal tea after 8pm. Or water...or whatever you like to drink. At 9pm, take a melatonin and try to get to bed earlier. Better sleep reduces calorie intake overall, reduces cortisol, makes us less likely to eat from fatigue. Good sleep is hugely tied to better success with our diet. Eating late messes up circadian rhythms that help us eat and sleep in a good pattern.
  18. This is gonna sound deranged. But during the liquid diet, I actually liked cooking for people. And I enjoyed watching theme eat, too. Spooky, isn't it? Kinda freaked me out while I was doing it. Hubby was really disarmed. He expected to be doing his own cooking. My mom was really freaked out, too. She came over to keep me company the second day I was home from the hospital and I made her a taco salad for lunch....and dutifully drank my protein drink and broth. Cooking is something I enjoy. I enjoy watching people enjoy what I cook, too. I found it comforting to watch them eat...I know that sounds really messed up, and I should probably talk to the therapist about it. LOL. That said...I'm cooking very healthy now. Made extremely delicious salads for dinner tonight with mandarin oranges, apple, avocado, strawberries and rotisserie chicken. Homemade ginger dressing. I am always gonna really enjoy food. But I can make better choices now and I can be sane about portion sizes. I can watch calorie counts. I can avoid refined carbs and eat really good whole food. Some people at group kept talking about not making their children go on a diet....because somehow treats are love...and childhood should include fun food. I couldn't help thinking....our kids share our genetics. Maybe we should invest in gifting them with really good eating habits. Give them an appetite for healthier treats. Work hard to give them a legacy of fitness. Find sensible alternatives to unhealthly stuff that still tastes great. Not saying we need to be health food nazis....but for basic everyday eating, there's no reason our kids shouldn't eat healthier stuff. Bowls of chopped up veggies in the fridge. Fruit. Whole grains. Better choices. They do learn from us. Our habits become their habits. Just sayin.
  19. PS..sorry if that sounded judgy or bitchy...but truly...this is one of the few things all doctors agree there is no middle ground on. Not meaning to pick on you. Just don't want anything to happen to you.
  20. You smoke and you'll swallow nicotine laced saliva that goes straight to your stomach. It will impede healing, it can cause ulcers, leaks and massive problems for you. Don't do it. It's not worth it. Talk to your doctor about it. If you're hell bent to smoke again, I wouldn't even think about it for at least six months. Your stomach has to heal. And even then? You're taking major risks of big problems. It was explained over and over and over...that you had to quit for life. If at any point in the process you recall a doctor saying to you that "just one cigarette a day" was ok...you need to find that doctor and have them put that in writing....so you can sue them when you end up on a feeding tube for weeks. You are playing with fire.
  21. I really do agree with what you're saying here....but your partner is a little bit different of a relationship than your mother in law, no? I dunno...I couldn't look the other way on my spouse treating me like this. My mom in law...sure. Hubby? Nope. But to each their own. Takes all kinds to make a world:)
  22. You can tell them anytime that is right for you. You can opt not to tell them unless you absolutely have to. it's all up to you.
  23. Drink more water. If you "just went nuts on water" and it still didn't change urine color....you're probably very dehydrated and your body was sucking that water up like a sponge and not sending it to your bladder. Ask your doctor's office...they will tell you what I'm telling you. If you want, you can have them check a urine sample, but very concentrated urine results most commonly from one cause: Dehydration. That said... a bile duct issue could cause dark urine, too. Best to make that call.
