Thought I would jump in here too! Sleeved on 12/21, any surgery twins out there?! Family and friends are always a great support system but having someone who actually knows what the sleeve is like is great to have!

I was sleeved outpatient on 12/14. As soon as I woke up in recovery I wanted to sip Water and they let me have ice chips. They asked if I wanted to try walking and I did because the gas pain was terrible. I was the first patient of the day, arrived 730am, surgery started at 830am, and I was home by 230pm. The first night I had a lot of dry heaves I guess that's what they call vomiting but nothing coming out but a little spit. And a also had a great deal of gas pain which I didn't think viciodin helped at all with; not sure why I was even given them. I did walk a lot because I had to get out and walk my dog so the gas pain was gone after exactly 3 days. In hindsight, the first 2 days were rough, the only thing I would have done different was to have someone keep my dog for the first 2 days. My long haired Chihuahua is extremely spoiled and it was very difficult to recover with him wanting up on my bed and jumping down every other 5 minutes. I'm exactly 2 weeks and 1 day out and I feel good. Best decision I made. ♥️

I love Protein2o as well. My biggest suggestion (and I'm about a week post-surgery) is to do your research for the first few weeks--shakes, Vitamins, etc. I tried different samples of shakes and Protein options. I was on Pinterest forever reading all sorts of different ideas. Of course you'll have a ton of ideas, but you'll just have to go through all the information and suggestions from everyone and take the ones that you feel are best for you.
After my research, I bought the shakes and drinks that I liked. Bought other things that I would be able to eat. So I had everything stocked and ready to go.
I will add that I tried the Tespo machine that gives you the liquid shots of vitamins. I didn't care for it at all. I initially didn't think about the fact that you're only getting an allowance of 4 oz of liquid at a time, but you have multiple vitamins with the machine, which ended up being 6 oz or more. Just didn't seem worth it to me to take up my liquids with that.

My husband got me a package of the little 2 ounce plastic cups with lids and those were really helpful when I got to pureed because I was on 2 ounces 6X a day with Protein Shakes between. I could make a meal and puree it and store it in those. I used the left over cups later to make PB2 in for when I wanted some Peanut Butter.
Also GNC has lots of Protein options so try everything, don't buy in bulk now. I couldn't stomach shakes after surgery well so I drank protein waters. They also have protein Tea as well now. GNC Lean 25 shakes are really good too, lots of flavors and much smoother than most premade shakes.
Finally I loved my magic bullet for puree'd meals. I found it worked better than the full sized blender and I could store my left overs in one of the cups. I make smoothies with Protein Powder now when I'm having a low protein day and the magic bullet cups come with lids that I can take with me.

I have bipolar disorder and severe anxiety. While I'm too new post-surgery to give you advice, I will share one thing that my psychiatrist told me. She said that a lot of the cases that she sees where people have changes in moods, increased anxiety, depression, etc. are nutritionally based. She gave me suggestions of important vitamins/minerals and I combined this with what my surgeon suggested. I make sure and take everything everyday, along with my regular medication. So hopefully I won't have any problems. Something to try for you!
    Good luck to you!!

Hi, I have bipolar and severe anxiety. Like you, I have worked really hard on my mental health over the last couple of years to get into a good head space. My mental health is now pretty stable and I'm working and have good relationships with my family and generally happy and stable for the most part.
A lot of the psych med's I've been on for the last 20 odd years cause weight gain, which is part of the reason that I was over weight.
Four months ago I had the VSG, I maintained a close relationship with my psychiatrist up to the surgery and post op. The sleeve has had zero impact on my mental health, my medication hasn't changed at all, although in saying that it is pretty standard if you have bipolar that you will be on medication for life.
I'm sorry I can't tell you that it has improved, but I'm glad that it has had zero impact, I did have some concerns my mental health could get worse due to the stress of surgery.
Good luck with your surgery and mental health.

You would be unusual if you did not stall during your first month:

Don't worry about your calorie levels at this point - lots of people are in that range for a while because that is all that they can get in, and they do well. As long as you are getting in your Protein and fluids, you are good to go. Yes, it is ultimately a calorie in/calories out thing, but short term there are all kinds of things that play with your Water retention/rejection, so that the loss that we see is more stair steps than a consistent, linear loss day to day or week to week.

Propel. I felt really dizzy in the morning and that helped replenish me enough that I would feel better within an hour or two. Blender bottles to shake up Protein powders. Oikos zero yogurt was a huge life saver. I basically only ate that and shakes for a couple weeks. Memory foam pillow. When my stomach hurt it felt so nice to hug the pillow. It had enough density and was also soft on my sore tummy. I agree that those gimmicky Vitamin machines are just unnecessary. My NUT recommended Flinstones Vitamins and I've been taking them ever since now 8 months later. All blood work has come back normal so they seem to be just fine. They have more Iron than adult chewable and WAY cheaper. Ask your doctor/NUT if they recommend them for you.
