She_whirls got a reaction from FluffyChix in Dealing with grief post op
My brother was a kidney recipient 9 years ago and we’ve set up a fundraiser for the American kidney fund in his name and seeing the donations warms my heart. He was also an avid golfer and despite knowing nothing of golf, other than my love of putt putt, I might try to learn.

I’m just reeling in grief. I don’t want to turn to food. And I won’t let myself. But as of right now, I’m barely eating. Barely drinking. Everything makes me nauseated. I don’t know how to cope with this. I’m just so lost.

I’m 9 months post op and was doing great. Down 110 lbs since surgery and following all the rules. Then on August 10th, my big brother died suddenly from a massive heart attack. I’m spiraling. I’m not hitting any nutrition goals. I’m barely eating, barely drinking and don’t know how to even begin to process this loss. I feel like I’m drowning. When my mom died 8 years ago (her funeral and my brother’s were 8 years to the day apart) I was pregnant. Once my daughter was born, the grief hit me and i turned to food and put on 45 lbs. this time- I can’t do that. I won’t do that. So I’m drowning in grief with no idea how to cope with it because I can’t eat my feelings. I don’t even know why I’m posting this other than I need to get it out.

NSV I want to share - I went out for brunch with friends on Sunday morning and I ordered a healthy little side dish even though I realllllly wanted a big ass omelette. But I made a commitment to stop eating out as much and to only order something really small if I have to eat out. I'm really proud of the choices I've been making lately!

I had to take off my wedding rings and bought silicone ones a size smaller. I bought boots that actually go up my calves.

I’m a licensed cosmetologist and almost 9 months post op myself. I colored my hair the entire time I was experiencing Hair loss. Honestly, go to a salon and have it done so they can use a lower volume developer versus buying a box and doing it yourself. Depending on what you want to do and where your color is now, they should be able to use 10 or 20 volume. All box color is 40 volume, has a higher percentage of peroxide in it, because it’s a “one size fits all” and can be unnecessarily harsh on your hair. Also, invest in an olaplex treatment while you’re at the salon. It helps protect your hair from the damage of coloring it. I went from silver to purple to blonde post op, using Olaplex. My hair feels healthy, just thinner.

Here's a non-scale victory: being able to fit into AND BUTTON this cardigan for the first time since 2014.

2014 on the left, today is on the right.

Just over three years ago I met with my personal trainer, Erin, for the first time. During that first session she asked me what one thing is that I would love to be able to do, but can’t due to my size. My response..... ride roller coasters again! She promised to help me get there as long as I put in the work, and that she’d go with me when the time came. So here we are this morning heading to King’s Island to conquer them all! This amazing lady supports me, encourages me, and kicks my ass with her workouts. She even took the time to learn about sleeve surgery so that she would know the best way to help me afterwards.

For my surgeon’s office you have to go to an informational session before you can be seen in the office. I went to that session at the end of February 2017, first consult was March 2017, 6 months of insurance weigh ins and finally had surgery November 14, 2017.

DH gained 5-10 lbs my first few months post op. Recently he’s lost 15ish. He’s learning to control his portions and he’s eating the healthier foods I’ve been cooking.

slow downs happen all over the place, some generally effect everyone at the same time, but lots are just all over the board individual occurrences. Having a higher starting BMI, you can drop some serious amounts of weight, your call out stats appear to show 100 lbs already since March, which is fantastic.

Pay attention to your BMR, the amount of calories you burn just from being alive. As we age, and as we lose weight, this number drops. So we have to adjust our routine to keep the weight loss the same rate (or just accept the changes)
    https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr

So for you, without knowing your age, I'll just assume 35
Your starting BMR was 3042 calories per day
Today your BMR would be 2607 calories per day
That's a rather large change in caloric burn per day , 435 calories less per day are getting burned, just because you lost 100 lbs.

So, keep tracking your intakes, keep your Water intake in the 128oz range if possible, and keep exercising. You'll either need to accept the slower weight loss or change your daily exercise or intake or both to cover the 435 calorie change to keep your original caloric deficit the same.

    Hope that helps!

Did my first ever 5K today! I didn’t get to do as much running as I could have because my kids couldn’t keep up but I finished quicker than I thought! Can’t wait to do another one!

So I weighed 380 and my wife is like 300 pounds. Now i’m 167 pounds. She really wasn’t supportive of my surgery. She was making comments about me calling me skin and bones man.She also bankrupted our family spending over 5000 dollars on a video game because I lost weight. She has no interest in me emotionally or physically.I am only posting a pic to get honest feedback.Believe me I can handle it.She has made me feel like I’m very unattractive even though I think I look ok.I have decided to divorce her because I can’t take getting crapped on anymore?I don’t regret my surgery even though I’m getting divorced.I hate to say it but she really made makes questions if I am hideous now.I can handle blunt truth.Have any of you had issues after a bypass too or other weight loss tool?

I’ve been stuck at 147 lbs for three weeks and it’s starting to mess with my head. Today’s my birthday so I took some new pictures and looking at the comparison is really helping me deal with the emotional aspect of stalling and realizing how far I’ve come. I also bought myself a full length mirror for the first time in my life and I’m excited to hang it up!
@redhead_che - you look incredible and you’re an inspiration! I can’t wait until my scale reads that number, although my stomach will never look that good in a bikini 🤣

Body dysmorphia is such a strange, confusing thing.
I was similar to you in that pre op, I didn’t feel that I was THAT big. I saw the pictures and saw the mirror but I couldn’t possibly actually be THAT fat. And then I had surgery. I’m down over 130 lbs and have never felt more enormous. It’s as if the weight came over and with it the rose colored glasses. I’m suddenly HYPER aware of my body. Yea my legs are much thinner, but the sagging skin at the top of my thighs is the only thing I see. I went from a size 24 to a size 4, but I can’t do anything about the huge amount of skin hanging on my stomach. I feel like a stranger in this body and I don’t know how to handle it and the attention that comes with it. I in no way regret my surgery and would do it 100 times over again because physically I feel amazing, but mentally it’s been a huge challenge.
