    Hi all!
I'm new to the forum and 8 weeks Post-Op. I was wondering if anyone one else has this problem? I used to really enjoy eating. Now I'd rather drink Water because eating is so uncomfortable and it's like a teas to just nibble on food. So does this feeling go away or will it be here for ever?😐😐😐

I would limit myself to 4 oz for now and fill with veggies. Im a 220 lb dude and I can just eat a 4oz tuna steak at one sitting, at 9 months post op. I would never attempt 8oz at one meal anymore. I break my meals into smaller meals to keep my metabolism going all day. So I may eat 2 meals 2 to 3 hours apart, where I split 4 to 6 oz of Protein. This works best for me as I dont like that really full feeling if I eat the entire 4 to 6 oz at once.

no of dense Protein. fish, shrimp etc are easier. chicken and beef are rougher. so i'm trying to stick to those. liquid protein i can tolerate more. i use the Premier Protein shakes and i have to really time myself cause i can drink it very quickly and i dont wan to.
the weight is coming off but just nervous how well i have handled everything. im very lucky but want this to work so im just trying to be cautious.

My doctor pushed me to buy the Bariatric Advantage protein powders. I think I paid around $450 for the kit, and it didn't include a whole lot. I now drink Premier Protein and the generic SlimFast shakes. My Bariatric Advantage protein powders pretty much go untouched, so it was a huge waste of money. They don't taste good either. I don't think a doctor can force you to buy a certain brand. I wish I had put my foot down and saved my money. The Protein Shakes I drink now are just as effective and definitely taste better.

    Hello everyone,
just a quick compliment to this website and its community. You all seem to be very kind and caring to each other, supporting one another during the time of sleevery. My admiration for that.

I am 20 days post op and struggle a lot with my diet.
During the first week post op I lost 22lbs. Since last week I've lost another 6lbs. Last night I weighed myself and I was a 134kg and today (it's evening) I've weighed myself again and I gained 2lbs (1kg) and I'm back on 135kg. This just scared the living heck out of me. I barely eat, because I don't really know what to eat.
I struggle so much with protein-intake. I bought this whey Protein for so much money (we don't have much money..) and I can't even get it down! My belly can't go with the heavy thickness of Protein Shakes, it makes me ill. I saw they have this awesome 30g protein per bottle protein Water in England. They don't have it in Germany (where I'm from), it's frustrating. Dieting is hell for me right now, my body feels weak, I can barely focus on tasks. I drink quite normally, just water and tea. I can take in liquids max 800ml a day, if it goes well 1l a day.
Are there any pureed foods with lots of protein? I google all day but it drives me mad. Sometimes there are foods listed that I can't even afford (like avocados, they're very expensive here where I live). I have no one that I can talk to about this so I feel absolutely left alone, I'm on the verge of crying. I don't know how I'm going to manage this. liquid stage went fine but pureed stage seems to be going to be tough on me. I could eat pureed potatoes but then people say they have lots of carbs.
If anybody has some heartfelt advice, I'd be more than glad and happy to receive it. Thank you.

Congrats on a huge accomplishment! Don't know what to say on the Skinny popcorn. I do know from watching, that the people who tend to maintain their original losses are very strict with themselves. But I also know, that for me personally, saying I won't ever have something again or will never be a "weensy bit bad" is not practical. It's pretty magical thinking IMHO.
So I'd tend to look at your popcorn fettish like this: if you can eat your serving appropriate size and it doesn't hurt the new anatomy, cause weight gain/stall, or cause cravings to get out of control, and you can dictate the frequency of eating it--then no problemo. If on the other hand, it causes the binge monster to visit, makes you stall or gain, and you end up wanting more and more and more of it at increasingly shorter intervals--then it's a trigger food and should be avoided at this time.
I'm gonna shoot for a 95/5 plan where 95% of the time I eat like a saint. The other 5% of the time, I will enjoy like a sinner. And I will have a safety window. At the high end=angelic behavior; at the low end=devil behavior.

I don't and won't eat meat for ethical reasons. I am a vegan with the exception of eggs. I don't have a NUT (nutritionist?) and listing my food intake won't help because it changes so drastically from day to day. I do use myfitnesspal and have the subscription so I can adjust macros. I was hoping someone could offer a good maco goal of protein/carbs/fats? And I didn't mention veggies because the calories are negligible. I know spinach isn't the reason the scale isn't moving. haha

I was sleeved 9/21, so a few weeks ahead of you. I was hungry when I was on liquids and even soft foods, but it improved a lot when I started eating denser Proteins. You'll definitely feel your restriction at that point! Now I eat 5 times a day (three meals, two snacks). My meals are about 3 - 4 oz. (2-3 oz. Protein, 1 oz. veggie, sometimes 1 oz. carb). I sometimes feel a little hungry, but it's not too bad. Eating often helps a lot.
I would worry that my sleeve wasn't working, too, but I can assure you . . . it works great! Yours will, too!

I wound up having to GAIN 20+ pounds to just get to 200+ for my BMI to be over 35, it sucked. I'm 5'3”and the extra 70+ pounds on my frame is NOT good. BUT yes, the weight is taking a little longer to come off. I did loose about 20+ during the Pre-op diet so that was cool, and starting to loose now that I’m on Soft and Moist foods. I have not had a chance to walk the way I want or work out, just recovering and too much other stuff in house to do. But we'll get there. My goal is 130 before June 6th (my birthday) and have been told it's doable

I got sleeved on Oct 11. I'm 5 ft even and went from my highest weight (220) to my 186. I've been at a stall for about a week and half now. I was told that weight loss would be slower for us and that as long as we stay patient, it will come off. My goal is 130 too! I saw on another post that someone reached their goal weight in 7 months Seeing progress like that kind of frustrates me because I'm not losing that fast. But I know we can do it! What are you eating and do you go to the gym??

My surgery was Oct. 16 I can only tolerate squash and zucchini and it has to be boiled and mushy. Gross I know but I can't do dairy it makes me too sick. I try and drink 1 to 2 Protein Shakes a day. Sometimes I can finish 3/4 of it and sometimes barely 1/3. Do you get the bubbles when you try to eat?

I agree with the above. I always felt hungry until I was placed on protonix and Zantac. Now I am hungry if I skip a meal or its meal times. Also wanted to add that I do feel restriction with soft foods, yogurt and tuna. But the restriction is worse with chicken and fish and meats as stated above.

Try different brands/flavors. I had issues tolerating shakes after surgery, I tried so many brands and for awhile avoided shakes all together and drank a protein Water instead and GNC has a protein "tea". Once I reintroduced shakes I found the Atkins ones are pretty easy to go down. They are smooth and don't have a strong protein smell or taste.

Don't worry, I PROMISE YOU WILL. Liquids don't challenge the sleeve, they literally stay in your tummy for 3-5 minutes and are into your intestines. You will feel it when you eat real food. It literally feels uncomfortable, almost hurts it feels so full. Be patient you have 75-80% of your stomach gone, it will be restricted [emoji4]

did you have surgery oct 25th? if so me too! my issue has been getting those Protein Shakes in, i cannot stand the taste of them just looking at them makes me gag. Before surgery i had no issues at all drinking them but now they are the most disgusting thing to me. I am drinking protein Water instead recommended by my doctor (Bipro) which somewhat sits better with me.

I agree with waiting a month and trying again. chicken hurt fir me at 7 weeks out but now at almost ten weeks I can tolerate it if it is moist enough. Still hurts if it is grilled dry. I eat a lot more tofu, baked turkey and stewed meats now. And I still drink shakes. Egg white are also a great source of my daily Protein. Hang in there. Time makes it all better. I finally realized I can drink up to 50 oz of Water a day now. For the longest was stuck on 32oz. My point is that things get better everyday and with time. I am in no hurry, I am glad I can't eat much yet. Makes the weight loss effortless.

Not sure what type of beef and chicken you are eating and how you are preparing them, but I have a couple of suggestions that have really helped me.
I am 1 year post op. If I try to eat bites of drier cuts of meat such as steak, chicken breasts, pork chops or even homemade hamburger patties, I still have trouble getting them down, they cause some discomfort and don't feel nice in my chest or tummy.
My favorite foods that sit well are chili, with the meat broken up very well, moist chicken thighs, homemade meatloaf made with eggs, hamburger, small amount of breadcrumbs and also on occasion, finely chopped chicken made with mayo (chicken salad). What all of these things have in common is that they are much moister than the other meats that I listed first.
I don't know if years down the road whether or not steak or the drier meats will work better for me than they do now. Time will tell. Steak is still one of my favorite foods. Mmmmm
Just experiment and you will find what works best for you.

I'm 6 wks post op and have pain when I eat chicken or beef. I don't take big bites and I eat slow but get pain/discomfort within a few bites. Is it just because it's still early on in my recovery or will it always be like this?

Those who are short (5'2-5'3 and under) and were 215lbs or less or had a BMI of 40 or less, did the weight come off slow for you? My surgeon warned me that the weight loss may be slow for me due to my weight/BMI being at the bare minimum for surgery. At first, I didn't believe it because I have had some pretty decent weight loss so far but now I can tell its starting to slow down so I am just curious what others experiences were!
    My Stats:
    Surgery: 9/18
    HEIGHT: 5'0"
    BMI: 40

    SW: 205
    CW: 173

Is he scared of the changes you will go through? My fiancé didn't have a problem with the surgery, but when my mom had hers done, my dad was a jerk. I think it is because he was scared of the changes my mom was going to go through (physically and mentally) and was becoming jealous. She had surgery years ago, and he still is like that. You don't need the added stress of your situation, so maybe explaining to him exactly why you need/ want surgery will help him understand.

Just focus on you and tune the negativity out. This site has been a great support system and we are all rooting for you! This surgery will only make you stronger. Your surgery date is pretty soon so you are almost there. I started seeing the benefits of the sleeve as soon as I got home and I hope that you do too. I wasn't able to walk very much due to being overweight and having asthma but now I can walk and jog without getting tired. We all know you are not lazy. Getting this surgery done takes a lot of work and time! Do what is best for you and focus on bettering yourself. And when he sees you improving, maybe it will push him to improve too. And if not, just enjoy your new healthy lifestyle without him!
