Thanks! All very helpful. I'm coming up on 3.5 months out so probably still in that period, albeit with less extreme loss than the first couple of months. It's definitely easier to maintain 1,000 calories a day now than it was with just dieting alone before surgery

I hear you. I had a panic attack the week before surgery. I definitely let things get to my head though. I kept thinking I'd rip the IV out of my arm once I was at the hospital in the pre-op room. LOL But, once I did get there, I stayed on that gurney. But I cried. So this is what it has come to, I thought. And then I thought, yeah, it has. Now get in that surgery room and get this taken care of so you can finally enjoy your life. I think the crying was therapeutic. It was like I was mourning the loss of my stomach before I'd go under. A subconscious farewell to my old way of life and it was sad. But every book has chapters, and I was ready to start a new one. You have your reasons for choosing surgery. Just keep thinking about them OVER and over again. Only YOU know what's right for you. And if that means you can't discuss it with family because they can't/won't understand it, so be it! They definitely don't need to know. I *am* glad to hear your husband and close friends know. That is FANTASTIC! And you are going to do great. Can't wait to read your future posts. Do you think surgery will be in May?

I hope I am not overstepping as I am still post-op, but I’ve experimented with recipes so I have an Arsenal of options after I do receive my surg. I’ve successfully been able to “hide” the Isopure unflavored Protein powder. I don’t always add a full scoop though. Sometimes just half so it doesn’t overpower. I purchased a mini-crockpot to make smaller meals (I’m wicked obnoxious about eating leftovers) and slowly cook chili or thicker Soups at a low temp to avoid protein clumping.

Just started blended week. I didn’t have many ingredients (will go to store later today) so I stopped and got chili from Wendy’s and blended it. The nutritionist recommended it. It was good but a half a cup probably only had 8g Protein so I am going to try adding Protein Powder, Beans, or chicken to next batch.
This may be harder than liquids!

I was about 400 and lost 47 before my surgery last week, counting a one-week pre-op liquid diet. You should not have any problems. Just do what they tell you too, there are good reasons, like walking to get rid of excess co2 they fill you up with for the operation. Every surgeon seems to have a different variation of procedures, just do what they say.

One thing I saw suggest, it to have sleeping arrangements ready for when you come home. I can't sleep on my back, I toss and turn, but I can sleep two n a recliner. All the guy crunching you do getting into and out of, and rolling in bed can aggravate the main incision area. A recliner to sleep in really helped. If you don't have one, arrange your bed so you can easily get into moving as little as possible, like moving a a table away. You might want some chewable gax-x tablets ready too, and pre-supply your post-op diet because you might not feel like doing much post-op, but I think that's for any surgery.

Also, bring some slip-on shoes to walk in. During my walks in the hospital (every 4 hours), I just used the socks with the tiny grip thingies on them. Walking a lot on them was not comfortable, but I was also walking alot (according to them). My first walk was 5 laps on the floor, which turned out to be over a quarter mile. They were expecting 1 or 2 laps at most. I got up to 8 laps eventually, but the bad posture on just socks on hard floor was not working well, so I cut it back to 4.

I think you are self destructing. You are doing what I did, and countless others have done on other diets "I'll eat alot today, because I start my diet tomorrow," but then, it the next day, then next day, then next day.
If you gain weight, your insurance will deny it, or some doctors will just drop you. I was in an office visit and witnessed an irate patient when he got the news.
What are you supposed to be eating right now? My program had me on a diet, that I actually lost more than any other diet, and I was cooking my food for the first time, maybe a good diet, or I took it more seriously. It was something like 35-40% Protein calories, 30/30% carb and fat.
Are you logging your food? If not do so, use Myfitnesspal and scan/search your foods. You need to qauntify what you are doing so you can start to fix it.
Drop the smoothie, eat something like eggs, celery in the morning it may fill you up more. Have a healthy snack that contains Protein, it's recommended.
You need to start easing into your diet. Perhaps precook your meals. I did that alot. 7-8 oz chicken breast, pan fried vegetables.

wjgo got a reaction from LCroft in Another Pre Surgery Jitters Post...
I could barely sleep two days prior to surgery because of the anxiety of not able to do the post-op diets.

In the surgery recovery room, I came to with a flight reaction, and they had to hold me down for 3 minutes. It's s common reaction, I watched the same thing in done other patient beside me.

For about an hour in the recovery room, I wondered what the hell I got myself into. It subsided. The liquid diet after surgery is about 85% less difficult the pre-op.

It'll pass. Once you are on the next stages, it should go better than pre-op

It's funny, but my favorite pureed item was taking a Hormel "Compleats" chicken breast, gravy and mashed potatoes meal and pureeing it in the blender. I felt like I was eating a Thanksgiving dinner even though it was one item, with one color, and one consistency. (I hate puree!) But it was pretty awesome. LOL. It's 10oz with 210 calories, 18 grams of Protein, 4.5 grams fat, and 26 grams of carbs, and 0 sugar.

Well, my program is pretty much universal for the participants, unless someone has a medical condition I suppose. We are two weeks liquid, then they say 5-8 pureed foods, so I guess that is their option for changing it. We actually have a required class we attend, with a slide slow, and we get copies if the slides, goes from hospital Street entrance to procedures, through the 4 food stages post operation. All have a required meeting with surgeon 2 weeks after discharge, when the liquid diet ends.
The spaghetti thing sounds good. I will do that.
I might start the pureed 2 days earlier. I am easily getting my Water and Protein right now. I do fill up quicker than before when drinking some amount of water.

My favorite pureed meal was a few meatballs with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan, mixed up in a blender with a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder. Tasted like the meat sauce left on a plate after eating spaghetti.

Are you keeping a journal of what you are eating? If not you should. The journal could tell you howuch Protein, carbs, fiber, .... You are getting.

I use an app called MyFitnessPal. It has a desktop/web version. The app can use a smartphone to scan a foods barcode in, and it will 99% be accurate. Also has a search function for it's databases. You enter your serving size. Also tracks Water, weight and physical dimensions. FREE. Paid version let you customize meals and goals.

Increasing vegetables can fill you up. I would oftentimes put a little virgin olive oil in a frying pan with broken up cauliflower, seasoned with a spice and fry it until it was soft and slightly crunchy.
