Hey there everybody! Tomorrow will mark 2 weeks post-op for me. I’ve already lost 26 pounds so far. My concern however is that my weight has been fluctuating since I’ve been home. I’ll loose a pound or 2 one day and the next day I’ll gain 5 pounds. Not sure how or why I’m gaining. Not sure if this normal. Did anyone have the same issue?

Do most people gain weight once they start the next phase? I'm only 1.5 weeks post op, and I'm scared that I will start gaining weight once I get into the next phase. My weight loss is already slowing down. I was losing a pound a day, and the last few days have been point something. Suggestions please. Thanks!

If you expect to lose 1 pound a day throughout your weight loss phase, your expectations are dreadfully unrealistic unless you're a youngish male or your starting weight was 400+ pounds.
Think about it...if you lose 1 pound a day consistently, you will have lost 365 pounds in a year. Is that realistic or sustainable? No, it isn't, and it won't happen. Ever.
People may gain or stall when progressing to the next phase, but it's Water weight. It's not fat gain. It's Fluid gain. It's temporary.
Weight loss with a sleeve isn't a neat, clean, linear process. We lose pounds, then stall or plateau at times, them may even gain weight due to fluid retention before dropping pounds again.
By the way, the vast majority of my losses were single digit (1 to 7 pounds monthly). I lost 100 pounds in 17 months, so I was a slower loser.
What matters is my ability to maintain my new, lower body weight. No one gives a rat's behind how slowly or rapidly I lost it except for me.
Good luck to you, and stay off the scale so often.

It's Water weight. Either you were dehydrated, so reached an artificial low, or you are now retaining Fluid as part of the healing process.
No worries, it's not fat weight You're doing great!

I was sleeved on October 30. I started at 262 lbs. Was down to 253 pre surgery and dropped to 242 the first week. I’m not meeting my liquid and Protein goals but am trying. I have since gained 5 lbs. on the clear liquid diet. I’m puzzled and concerned. Did anyone else experience this? I’ve heard of stalls but not gains so close to the surgery. @Berry78 do you have any advice for me?

Since my surgery date (9/25/17), I have had two stalls, both with my weight going up 2-3 lbs. But a week and a half later I was 5 lbs down. My weight app shows a drastic downward slope, but if you zoom in, you will see these two upward humps.

I had mine on 9/25, and I stalled for about 2 weeks, but it started up again. For head hunger I try to drink something like crystal light.

Did a quick search and didn’t find good answers. I’m 3 months out on the 23rd and it feels like something significant has changed. I suddenly have moderate food intolerance and mostly subsist on oatmeal, Protein Shakes, and other light foods. I have issues swallowing food and medication. I take Prilosec 2x a day and it doesn’t feel like GERD, it feels more like a blockage or stricture. I speak to my doctor at 10 am but I was just wondering what people experienced. I don’t have any vomiting but have been on the verge numerous times.

I haven't been walking either. At work, I don't even have a chance to go out and walk. It's been so busy. I barely get up to go to the bathroom and to get some Water. I'm still at a stall - I think it's been 2 weeks now with no loss - I gained 3 lbs wth? I'm so upset I don't even want to weigh myself anymore. I have PCOS and I have been struggling with my weight for the past 7 years. I wasn't diagnosed with it until 3 years ago. I was put on Metformin and Spironolactone and finally my scale stopped going up. But I couldn't lose. I stayed the same weight for the last 2.5 years. I finally had surgery on 10/17 lost the first 2 weeks and once I went back to work, I have not lost anything. I started taking my Metformin and Spironolactone again 2 days ago. Will see my surgeon on Friday. I won't be weighing myself until then.

I don't count calories. I'm just drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day which are 160 calories each and about 60 oz Water. I have a yogurt and a cheese stick and some chicken broth or tuna salad.

I was sleeved 10/27/17 I had my first post op appointment today. Thankfully everything is going well, I'm still on liquids till Saturday (so excited lol) and I had some gas pain which was my main issue post op and now it has traveled to my right shoulder the doctor said it will pass and is normal. I'm down 22lbs this far and walking 30mins daily. All is well! Hope everyone's journey goes well too!

I was sleeved on 10/18/2017. Everything is going great. Started running one week post op. Running 5Ks now and doing dumbbell work outs. I've lost 16 pounds post-op. (I had lost 37 pounds pre-op.) Yesterday my endocrinologist took me off all diabetes meds and I'm off high blood pressure meds, too. Weight loss stalled around days 9-15 but is now creeping down again I'm eating around 1,500 calories a day. I've gained one pound of muscle mass. Eating a little ahead of my schedule but no issues at all. Can feel the restriction with the more solid foods. Have lost 6 inches in my pants size and am starting to buy new clothes. My confidence is up and I am happy. Enjoyed being with my wife last night and it felt sooo much better not having my big belly in the way! I will run a 5K race on Thanksgiving.

I was sleeved on Oct 11, which is a month today! I am eating fine, I’ve only eaten too much twice, but it sure isn’t pleasant! I am taking in around 1100 cals a day and 100 grams Protein. I know that’s a lot but it’s working for me. I can workout as well as before surgery, but weak. I’m having problems wanting to eat at night, but I stay within my calorie range.

    Good morning!
I was sleeved 10/10/17 and down 21lbs do far. No complications or nausea and I'm on soft foods. This surgery has been a blessing. I did have a weak moment when my employer treated us to lunch and I had SOME cheese cake. My former greedy self would've eaten it ALL. Lol. I'm embarrassed to say, but I have not been walking. I probably could've lost more weight. Today is a new day though...
And, I'm having trouble meeting my fluid goals.

I would say that exercise is crucial in the long run but with such restricted calories in the weight loss phase, you can do without as far as weight loss goes. But, exercise can only help. What about Water? Water walking, jogging, water fitness classes. All are low to no impact and so good for circulation.
Nothing wrong with walking only 15 minutes at a time, either.

Welcome! The forum you've chosen is correct.
I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have no physical problem, but so far have been just too lazy to start exercising.
I'm 7.5 months postop with a sleeve. I'm 39 year old female. And I've lost 100lbs. (I still have about 50 to get to goal).
So, long story short, you absolutely can/will lose weight without exercise. Will you get to goal? I don't know. But at least I'm proof that a person can lose a substantial amount.
Now, my metabolism is higher than most, and if yours is slower, then you'll have slower results. A good indication of the weight you'll lose postop is how well you can lose preop. I lost 16 pounds on a strict liquid diet in the month before the surgery.

I had my surgery on 10/30. No complications. But have a hard time meeting my hydration and Protein goals. I lost 9 lbs. on pre op diet and 11 lbs. since the surgery. But two days ago I hit a stall and I’m now up 2 lbs. it fluctuates. Glad to have found this thread and shared.

Hi! I had my surgery 10/3. Before the liquid diet, I was 212 at 5’3”. Surgery date was 207. This morning I’m 181.6. I know some may think this is slow progress, but I’m ecstatic!

I was also sleeved on the 17th and have slowed down and stalled and go up and down daily now. I am at about 22# total since the surgery date. No problems with my recovery and went back to work in a week. Everyone notices my weight loss which gets awkward because I have told only a handful of people what I had done. I guess in that sense I'm glad the weight loss is going slower. Clothes are fitting better and my belly is much smaller! I too had a lot of "hunger" the second and third week, but my surgeon reassured me that this was impossible since he had essentially removed my stomach. He said it was stomach acid and juices which makes sense because as soon as I take a drink of anything it stops.
