We are surgery day twins! I lost about 12lbs on preop diet- put a big smile on face. Surgeon and anastheliogists even commented on my upbeat attitude! Dry mouth during overnight in hospital was awful. I have this coming week off work, trying to stay hyrdated and getting some walking in. How are you doing? How are you sleeping?

Hi there! I am 8 days post-op. It took me hours to do my Protein Shake. It actually still does. I had 2 scoops in 12 oz Water which met my daily requirement. Probably 3 hours or so. Water is just the same-takes me a long time. My first two days of post op though i just did clears meaning no shakes. So i was able to get my water in. Felt very weak and was grateful for day 3 when i had more substance. Protein and water is super important so I make the best effort to get it in- im usually right on the mark by end of day. Good luck!!

I'm bearing my soul and body here. I couldn't be more proud of how my body has changed.
I've lost exactly 70 pounds since my surgery. Today marks exactly 24 weeks ( 6 months ) since my VSG surgery.
There's good, bad and ugly about VSG. A lot of days, I cried and wondered why in the hell I had this surgery, and what in the hell ive done to myself. Throughout this process, I haven't been able to REALLY see the changes. In my mind, I always see a 268 pound fat girl. Granted, I have seen the changes, seen the smaller clothes sizes, but still struggled with my self image in my head. But today that all changed....
I realized today as I was getting dressed that I had on the same exact underwear as the day I took my pre-surgery pictures. Then I realized that today marked 6 months since surgery. So, i decided to take pictures.
I haven't taken pictures in this process because of the absolute shame and disgust I feel towards myself. Shame and disgust are understatement words for how I feel about myself. Until today...
Today, I feel proud. For the first time, I can honestly say that I don't see "that fat girl" in the mirror anymore. It may not be pretty, it will never be perfect, but it's mine, and today I'm owning it, and FINALLY for once in my LIFE, I'm feeling proud.
It's NOT an easy decision to post these photos of me in my underwear. I feel absolutely vulnerable and exposed. Please be kind. It took all the courage I could muster to do this. The current pictures are not the best quality but the best I could take of myself at the moment.
All you new VSG-ers, stay the course and have faith. If you have body image issues as I do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you are not alone in the dark!
Much love from me to you all! ️️️

ornament17 got a reaction from Booandfrida in September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
Had surgery on 9/15. Moved to stage 2 when home from hospital but did 2 days of clears. Feeling woozy and nauseous still, very faint. Walked to grocery store and might have over done it as i about fainted when i got home. Been retching alot but no actual vomit- this hurts my incisions. Not sleeping well either. Getting my Water in little by little. Prefer room temp water. Perhaps if i do some peppermint tea i will feel better. My mutivitamin came in mail today so maybe taking that will help as well. Im taking my Calcium and B12. Using very little pain meds, i sip childrens liquid Tylenol at night.

I havent heard of this either. A waist trainer is tight-right?! That would reallly irritate all the incisions. Maybe after 3 months but not right away.

ornament17 reacted to carolineinsc in 1st Nutrition Mtg Full with Negative Natties
I just had my first Nutrition meetings.
My health care provider puts the first one in a group setting and then from there you can choose to go solo. I didn't mind the group until well.. they started talking.
Out of the four of us, one woman was so sweet. She was working for the local food bank and offered free vegetables to anyone who may be lacking in the funds to buy them. Quickly, the other lady jumped, and said, "Do you ask proof of income before you pass out those vegetables?! My company donates a lot of money to that group and I know people show up in fancy cars." Umm.. ok, well maybe that is true, but we are here for bariatric surgery information. Free veggies seems a worthy mention for some.
The group leader moved ahead in a smart way and soon we were all looking at her drawings of two stomaches, one cut for bariatric sleeve surgery and the other bariatric bypass. She did a great job at explaining each and what would happen with each. Well done.
"What?! I am confused. Explain that bariatric bypass again." Apparently, Negative Nattie, who wouldn't give a carrot or squash to a poor person in a nice car, has no idea what bariatric bypass surgery entails.
The sweet group leader explains again how small the new stomach would be. "Thats bananas!!", Negative Nattie yells.
I am amused. Really, you came this far and you didn't know this? Food bank woman is politely smiling as she knew most of what was being explained.
The sweet group leader then asks me to hold up a measuring cup of 1/4 cup.
"That is how much food your new stomach will hold?!?" Negative Nattie grabs it and said, "How are we suppose to fit in Thanksgiving dinner, turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, in that?!"
And that, I now see, is why they enforce Nutritional Counseling before the surgery. Because even the "smartest" "professionals" sometime don't google the basics.

Had my surgery Friday Sept 15. At 730am i drank a g2 (gatorade zero) in purple (NOT red). Was at hospital at 1130am. Had to give urine sample, change into gowns, fill in a few forms. It was very difficult to give urine sample as i had barely any liquid in me. Got a weigh-in and was down 12lbs from the pre-op diet- that was exciting!! Met with surgeon/anesthesiologist and their assistant and chatted for 10 mins. They commented on my tan lines, haha. Wheeled to OR around 1:45. Got a clip on my ear and another patch behind my ear for naseau. Had some problems finding a vain, but after a few pokes they got one. Got oxygen in my lungs and then the sleep drug kicked in- was out like a light. Luckily no problem waking me up. Was in a general holding area for a few hours- this was around 8pm- im not 100% how long surgery was. I talked to surgeon when I got out but dont remember much. I did ask how my liver looked, but forgot the answer. Went up to the gastrointestinal floor where i shared a room with 3 others- that was NOT fun. Lots of beeps and bells and noises. Begged for Water or ice cubes, my mouth and throat were so so dry. They remained dry all night as nurse restricted my intake. Walked a tiny bit, used restroom, slept more, read on my phone. Pain wasnt too bad, but i about screamed when i saw my bare stomach in a mirror- 4 incisions and tons of bruises. I didnt sleep well as there were so many noises, the other patients in room had some problems so people were always coming in. I also was unsure of what position I could sleep in since everyone has said they slept in a recliner. Ive been sleeping flat on back and that feels good to me. Did more walking the next morning, ate some broth, met briefly with some Drs who looked at my incisions and was discharged around noon.
Dont bring too much to hospital- you wont need it and will be a pain to lug around. Also every few hours in night you will get a temperature and blood pressure test. Came home, napped, showered, used my breathing 'toy' and went to pharmacy. Have felt dizzy/woozy/headachey the last few days but i know i just need more Protein. Good luck to you! Hope it goes smooth!

You are hating on yourself too much. Right before you headed for that drive thru - what was going on? - what was the anxiety about?
Did eating it fix the problem, fix the anxiety?
Do you fear success or failure more?
Go home and look in a full length mirror and thank yourself, thank your body for everything it has done for you. Say things like - thanks for getting me to work today legs, thanks arms for comforting a loved one, etc. You need to love yourself right now, not later....
You are NOT the food you ate.
