I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but I couldn't find a thread easily.

It has only happened 3 times, once with liquid oxy and twice with pills. I take them and I'm suddenly feeling a tightness and awful feeling in my chest then I run to the toilet and vomit. I thought it was stomach acid but research says it's foamy mucus.

Anyone know the cause? How to stop it? Doesn't happen often but it isn't fun. Never because I eat too much food. Only meds.

This happened only the first time I took my meds in the hospital. It was capsules. So awful! I take my meds now with a small sip of water and wait a little bit of time in between and I'm fine. How far out are you? It could just be that you're still healing. Mention it to your nurse or doctor. But, if you are still newly sleeved it may go away with healing.

I have felt urge to vomit as well after meds/water. I am 2 days post op and cannot get any crushed vitamins down. Im on clear liquids for the next week- how can i get my vitamins in?

It will get better. I was like that for the first 4 days post surgery. My Dr told me to wait until first post op visit before vitamins- which for me is Tuesday 20 days out.

I take 2 meds in capsules which I must take everyday and cannot go without. I have not had my surgery yet, but have been told just to take them anyway. I'm terrified that they will get stuck! There is no liquid Med substitute. The meds have to remain in the capsules. I'm freaked out about it.

Can you pull capsule apart so there are only the beads that you swallow? Maybe even breaking the pill down into quarters would help.

Im 3 1/2 weeks out. First week or two it happened once with liquid oxy and has happened twice since with either nickel size lamictal or the big 800 mg gabapentin. I don't know which med actually triggered the reaction. I did some googling and it basically sounds like the pill temporarily blocked the esophageal sphincter or something similar so I threw up mucus. Usually happens to people with food and is known as the foamies.

If you're really really nervous, no matter the med you likely can pull apart the capsules and eat it with some applesauce or something similar. You just can't chew the little balls inside.

Nope. They are time released and can only be taken without capsule in a thickened substance like applesauce.

It generally isn't but I think doctors make an exception for a tiny bit just for meds. But I really had absolutely no problem with capsules, just larger pills.

Please check with a pharmacist before pulling capsules apart. Not all can be pulled apart without complications such as extended or controlled release pills. This can cause dangerous complications with some meds, such as blood pressure pills (Just one example).

The general rule is you can pull them all apart and sprinkle on apple sauce but make sure you don't chew the time release balls.

They would but they would also prefer you be able to take the medication without pain. So whatever you need to do.
