    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Thank you for the time you put into this advice. Honestly it's better advice than I have gotten from my nutritionist. I am not consistently hitting my protein so I am adding back in my morning shake. I can also do better at water, I usually hit 30-40oz but some days are a real struggle for me. I dont drink other things, except the occasional unsweetened tea. I will cut my fruit and focus more on veggies. Walking is usually not a problem (I am constantly on the move at work) but I'm gonna add in nightly walks too....it finally stopped raining it's a great time. Thank you again for taking the time to reply. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

It's been a long while since I posted. I am very discouraged. I started at 311lbs and am sitting at 262. I have been here for 4 months. I have complicating autoimmune issues with high dose drugs that made me expect to be a slower loser but this is ridiculous. I will say over winter exercise was minimal as that is when my inflammation and arthritis are worse. But now I cant seem to kick start anything.y calories are around 1000 per day, although somedays I dont quite hit that. Any other tips? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Embarrassing question

Try mints or breath strips. Gum is dangerous if swallowed, specifically for by-pass folks. Also I did tempt fate with it and got terribly nauseated from swallowing air not long after surgery. Almost vomited while driving. The breath gets better in a few months. I carried a travel tooth brush. I'm 5 months out and can chew it now (sleeved). Got Bad News

Did I miss a post? I don't think the Doctor actually called the poster names. That would be highly unprofessional and warrant disciplinary action that a formal complaint could help to ensure. Could the patient also be sensitive about a direct conversation regarding requirements and rationales for them? It's hard to hear when we hear, especially those of us that are overweight and need to hear it. I'm a medical person and have had to deliver these talks as well as hear them. It's tough all around. I truly hope, OP, you can be successful. It's a very helpful tool. But you do have to do the work. I have lost slower because I have slipped up and hone off program myself. But you can do this. Totally worth the sacrifices. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Got Bad News

As for steroids, you Dr. will probably take this into account. I have been on and off them for years due to autoimmune disorders. My surgeon could trend my weight with my steroids. However, you cannot be on them before/after surgery. It will impair your ability to heal. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Hi Amy, You are not alone. I am down 50 lbs and have had long stalls that I can track to my diet. I went back to a protein shake every morning. All protein (boiled eggs, dense meat) and green veggies. I eat string cheese for snacks and occasionally I have an orange or blackberries. No chocolate (unless it's my shake). I started this on Tuesday and am down another 3 lbs. I also reached back out to my Nutritionist. I was eating the wrong foods and not enough calories. Refocus on Protein. August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I have followed a similar pattern and have been bummed about it but yesterday my dear friend took a picture of me holding her new baby, man I didn't even recognize myself. I look way different. My arms are thinning out, as is my face. So I am going to take full body shots at the end of each month. We don't see the changes in ourselves easily. I also just broke a 5 week stall. It will keep happening. My surgeon told me even if I did nothing else but have the sleeve I would lose another 60 lbs (not that he was encouraging this) and he helped remind me perspective. I lost 1/3 of my predicted loss in 3 months. Thank you for sharing too, I was feeling lost among all these big number looser (weight not personality [emoji4]). Thanks for that advice, my dietician would give me an actual number for calories, just told me to focus on protein. It's frustrating. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

100 pounds in 3-4months? Geeze I'm barely at 40. It's so frustrating. I do admit my diet has sucked since Dec. began. Not quantity but quality. But I gave gotten frustrated with a 4 week stall. My surgeon thinks I may have too big of a calorie deficit. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Silly Anesthesia Question

I woke up from a gallbladder surgery and hit on the transport tech in my 20s. How do I know this? I was a student nurse with a rotation the next week in the same OR [emoji23]. But even if you are goofy, the staff just smiles and never says a word (except to tease the student). For my VSG, the staff was awesome, calming, supportive. I woke in recovery and don't recall a thing. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I had pain for about 4 weeks. Apparently there was a lot of trauma removing my stomach and I kept repulling that same muscle. An abdominal binder/brace was my saving grace. Alternate plain Tylenol if you don't have Tylenol in your pain meds (I was on hydromorphone without tylenol), it really helps the inflammation. No more than 4000mg total Tylenol per day. I was frustrated at first with trying to get in my protein and the pureed diet, but honestly noe I feel totally normal and things are going well. 3 months out, down 33lbs. What to put in my hospital bag?

I packed CPAP machine, chapstick, toothpaste/toothbrush. PJs and sweats/t-shirt/slip on shoes for the ride home, a tablet with preloaded books and movies and my own pillow. I also brought distilled water because I am picky about my water. My friend sent some crosswords and magazines with my husband. That helped when I was bored. I stayed 2 nights because of pain/vomiting. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why is it a secret?

I dealt with this at a bunch of work meetings/work days at about 4 weeks out. I just grabbed minimal food and pushed it around my plate. People are so busy talking that no one notices. Trust me, you are the only one paying attention. And you can always say you just have an upset stomach [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I had my 3month appt yesterday and even though I have been hard on myself about this latest stall and slow progress he was very pleased and put it in perspective for me. He anticipated a loss of 96 pounds total over 18months. I am down 1/3 in 3 months (33lbs). I feel much better about my progress now. It feels like it's been longer. I didn't think I looked different either, I hear this from that's too, but if you took before pictures and compare to know you may see a difference. I feel better as fare as personal mobility. My clothes fit differently, specifically my pants but I didn't notice it until I compared pictures. I finally at 3 months had someone mention my weight loss, although I hadn't seen her since surgery so it must have been more evident. My recommendation is to feel good about yourself because you are making moves in the right direction and take pictures every month or 2. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Hi guys, So at survey day (8/31) I was 294. I am at 263, down 31 lbs. This seems really slow. Anyone else have similar concerns? My body has changed and I am down 2 pants sizes, but am feeling discouraged. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I wonder if some of the higher losers are bypass vs sleeve as well. I know they lose faster and younger (under 30) I hear lose faster too. I am following my plan and have felt it's slow, but it's worth it. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I am in the same boat. Stalled for 2 weeks now and frustrated. Sleeve on 8/31 down 27lbs. I think I am also seeing others big successes and being hard on myself, but wonder if they had bypass which lends to faster losses. I am trying to be patient and follow my plan. Stick to high protein food choices. I need to be better at vitamins. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I was struggling with nausea at 4wks too, I used a scopalomine patch from my Dr. 4 weeks is still super early for solid food, food should still be fairly soft. Also eat slow and stop if you get nauseated. I supplemented with protein shakes until 6weeks and still do sometimes. Also you may not be ready to move on, go back to liwuids/pureed for a few days and try again only 1 new food at a time. At 7 weeks I am do ally eat fruits and veggies again. And ALWAYS check in with your surgical team. They are there to help. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

As for sleep apnea and CPAP, I started 8/31 (surgery date) at 294. I was at 270 when I saw my pulmonologist. He said 50 more lbs and he wanted another study and thinks we can drop the cpap. So I will call him at 220lbs. I was looking at my pressure readings (I wear auto-peep) and my required pressure has already dropped considerably. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Hey girl, Remember you are an individual and may not fit into a check box. Patients don't always "follow the normal pattern" for weight loss or illnesses for that matter. Also look for non-scale victories. For example none of my previous 22/24 camisoles fit anymore. It's a long journey we are on. 6 weeks is still fresh and you will keep losing, just stay on program. 25. Failure to intake enough nutrition or failure to absorb it can be life threatening in the long run. I work with a gastroenterologist and we discussed these things recently and it sounds like he treats a few people that have had this happen. I have worked with a few patients myself and was the main reason I put this off and eventually decided on the sleeve. These things are rare, but they do happen and early treatment is key.
