  1. Actually I think it's been fairly civil! People are expressing their opinions and I appreciate that people care enough to warn me off instead of going "Yeah! Try it!! <muffled snicker behind their hand>"?
  2. Actually I haven't had a sugar craving at all. It's more of a curiosity of what dumping is and how my body will react to it in case it happens.
  3. Ha! This is a great thread. As I have waxed and waned through the years I never got rid of clothes because I knew my loss was temporary and I eventually would be back in the big ones. Then I got a lap band 10 years ago and thought it would be permanent so I got rid of all my big clothes. After 8 years the weight crept back on and I had to buy new big clothes. Now I've had a bypass and am starting to wear the smaller ones again I saved. This time I'm gonna trust the process and as I outgrow them I'll donate them to Goodwill. My uniform scrubs I will alter because I am NOT buying new ones--I'm technically retired, so I'm too cheap to spend the money on them!
  4. 22 pounds. It fell right off, but now I am in a stall already...I'm not cheating at all, but the scales not moving.
  5. Dale P--you got this! You are at an advantage over lots of us here since you are already physically active. The pounds are gonna melt right off of you! I hope you took "before" pictures because we are gonna see great results from you, I know it! If the chocolate shakes are repulsive (they were to me, also) find some Isopure zero carb protein drinks. They are clear, not viscous at all, and go down smoothly. Sugar free popsicles are also a godsend. Good luck--keep us posted!
  6. Decaf coffee should be fine. My doc even lets us have regular, as long as it's not excessive! It's not easy to find a great tasting decaf...I had one at Starbucks and I usually hate their coffee, but it was a Pike Place decaf and it tasted pretty good-maybe because it was my first cup of coffee following surgery!
  7. For me it took about 6 days before everything stopped hurting, The gas pain was worst than the actual surgery. Try to move around as much as you can. Make sure you are drinking SLOWLY-spasms might be a sign of taking too big of sips. Did your doc give you any medicine for your heartburn? She should have. Hang in there, most of us have "buyers remorse" after our surgery. Once you feel better and the weight starts coming off you'll be happy you did this, It WILL get better!
  8. Is the skin red? I got cellulitis during a previous surgery, and man, it hurts! Just the weight of a tee shirt made it hurt. Have your doc check it out.
  9. Wow, Jake-if it weren't for the ink on your right arm matching I woulda thought there was no way that was the same guy. You are doing great!
  10. And which stomach is it in? Your pouch or your remnant?
  11. Yeah, that's kinda what I'm doing. I like the idea of don't find out, 'cause if you DON'T dump you might start eating a lot of sugar again. I was just curious what it was like.
  12. Hi Guys-Have any of you purposely ate a high-sugar food with the purpose of seeing if you dumped and to see what it felt like? Part of my wants to do this at home in a controlled environment, and another part of me is terrified at the thought of eating sugar...
  13. Can I say what I CAN eat now? Eggs! I had that lap band for 10 years and couldn't eat eggs. Now they are my go-to protein and I love them!! I haven't found anything I can't stomach yet, but I'm not off total restrictions yet.
  14. Ha! I wasn't thinking about the porch pirates!! I should put my grungiest sweatpants and hope someone steals them!
  15. Wow lots of people giving themselves the greatest Christmas present--the gift of health! Good luck, y'all-you got this!???
  16. YAY YAY YAY!! This is just the start of your victories?
  17. From reading all the posts here, it seems like three months is famous for a stall. Keep your faith in the process, maybe increase your exercise a tad, and it will break. How often are you weighing? Especially if you are stalled you probably should only weigh weekly instead of daily so you don't get frustrated daily. Hang in there!
  18. Welcome to the other side! I had a blood sugar spike also, but my IV was D5W so that's not unusual. Sounds like you are on the mend...keep us posted here!
  19. Recidivist, you look great! I can see you are a vocalist--has losing the weight changed your singing voice at all? I sing in a large local chorale and while I've only lost 20 pounds I find my breath control is easier. But I'm certainly not a soloist like you are so I'm not too concerned about sounding different.
  20. OMG we have been invaded by the Incredible Shrinking Men!!! Hotness all around! Seriously, Nenes and Viking, y'all look wonderful.
  21. Claire, I think a LARGE majority of us here have gone through a period of "buyers remorse" where we have thought, "Why the HELL did I do this to myself???", usually in the first few weeks after surgery. You've done remarkably well! Just hang in there--as you recover more and more it will get easier, and you'll look back and laugh that you ever regretted your decision!
  22. Your story sounds just like mine. On Nov 20 I had a slipped band removed and a conversion to a bypass all in one surgery. I also am Medicare, and fortunately (unfortunately) I had regained enough weight through the years of fighting with my band that I qualified after all the rest of the requirements. I'm sorry you are having these problems, but you are in a LARGE group of people with lap band woes. The time will pass quickly . I hope all goes well in your journey--keep us posted!
