    First, it's a medical procedure and private. If I were having any other medical procedure, hysterectomy, my ingrown toe nails fixed, whatever, I wouldn't tell everyone. Second, I just don't want to be judged for 'taking the easy way out', 'why don't you just watch what you eat and exercise more', or anything else a doubter would say. And to be brutally honest, I'm afraid that I will fail again.
    It's weird because I am actually an outgoing person and involved in many community activities. I generally like people and am open with just about everything else. I'm just embarrassed about my weight.
    Maybe one day I'll 'come out', but for now just my immediate family as we live together and I have to.

    I'm sorry to hear of all these troubles! You ought to make sure that there are no strictures presently.
    Then evaluate how you feel when eating each food "group".
    Dairy. Great Protein. Slides right down.
    eggs.
    Beans. Protein, can be in chili or Soup, thinned refried. Fairly high in calories.
    Nuts and cheese. Protein, high calories.
    oatmeal. Easy, can add in a ton of stuff.
    Potatoes/sweet potatoes.. they actually are a powerhouse.. calories and nutrients.
    Hopefully you can eat some of these foods. Try to make a list of things that go down easily but that also contain protein and nutrients. That list can help keep you from dumping, and might help get your nutrition up.
    I am only 8 months postop, but don't eat meat with other foods. Meat is a meal by itself, and that is ok! The idea that you can only eat, what, an ounce? That's the problem. How much yogurt or cottage cheese can you eat?

    I have said this in another thread - and it still holds true. Tell people to Inform them, NOT to Affirm you. This is an individual choice and an individual journey. Courage should be embraced and admired - as many testimonials on this site can attest.
    The people who don't want you to be happier and healthier are people that you don't need in the long run anyway. If it wasn't your surgery, it would be something else that would have caused them to move on. Either way, You are the better for the decision You have made - BRAVO!!

    Things I took that I needed and used:

    - Chap Stick, #1 by far
    - SF Ricola lozenges... sooooo dry with the oxygen
    - Gas X strips
    - Listerine strips
    - Book (barely used, hard to stay awake to read long), glasses
    - Cell phone
    - Deodorant and baby wipes to clean up some before going home next day

    Things I took and did NOT need or use:

    - Robe and slippers
    - Makeup (pah--right, as if lol)
    - iPod (can't sleep with music anyway, so I'm gonna stare at the walls while I listen?)

    Wear what you plan on wearing home, you'll only be in it a couple of hours anyway. Also, even though I turned on the TV for maybe an hour, I got a bill for it from some external company (not the hospital) -- only $5, but it's the principle of the thing. Had no idea I'd have to pay for the damn thing, so clarify that before you decide you want it on.

    QUESTION:
    "I'm having surgery soon, what will I need for my hospital stay or for shortly after???"
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this question comes up here so much - I felt it would be a great idea to start up an official thread. My plan is once I think the list is great enough, I'm going to create a checklist for all the folks out there that will be sleeved shortly and have the above question. Then if you are around long enough and as much as I am, and someone has that question you can just lead them to this thread. Fair enough?
    Sometimes it's just nice to have everything all in the same place, kinda following the Walmart rule of thumb. They are very successful, aren't they?
    Anyway, please start with your suggestions and I'll get my MSWord fired up. I'll also start with the first suggestion:
    Comfy Pajamas, underclothes, and slippers or warm cozy socks...
    CherryBlossom2566 reacted to Lannie in Can't decide between Sleeve and By-Pass
    I had the same debate. I was nervous about the malabsorption of bypass, so I was leaning towards the sleeve. It seemed like a more "simple" procedure. I had bmi of 47 no comorbidities. My surgeon said for me there was about a 30lb difference in expected loss between the two. He thought bypass would be a good option but also said the best option is the option I'm most comfortable with. He directed me to sleeve- saying I needed to be totally comfortable with the procedure....if I was confident I would be more successful. He said the additional loss with bypass didn't offset the pro of my confidence in he decision.
    That is a long way of saying talk to you doctor.
    CherryBlossom2566 reacted to BunneyGirl in How many premier protein shakes should I get
    On making Protein pudding...I buy whatever sugar free flavor of store brand, or Jello brand pudding I like. Then I add the Protein Shake instead of milk, to the instant mix. A small box takes 2 cups of milk, so I use a full Premier Protein, and then the balance in non-fat milk, whisk it up, pop it into a container and into fridge for atleast 10 min. Overnight is better, as it gives a smoother texture. I've done Choc pudding with choc protein, vanilla pudding with banana cream protein, and vanilla with vanilla pudding
    I love the chocolate, and a little serving works wonders...YUM!
    CherryBlossom2566 reacted to torriqurll in I regret this surgery
    Honestly this isn't an easy surgery to go through for anyone.....some heal faster than others and some don't. Some people can get majority of their liquids in and others can't even meet half of their daily intake. It's a mental thing all around. Take longer walks through out the day to get your mind of the pain or just do extra things around the house. If your just moping around then that makes u think more about the negatives. 3 weeks out is a pretty decent time where u should be able to be out and about with friends. And reading your never going to eat your favorite foods again is bs. I know people personally who've had a successful surgery and have dropped over their goal weight and still have cheat days. It's all about you controlling yourself and saying ok I'm full I'm not going to continue eating this. When your able to eat regular foods again, meal prep for the week and then Friday or Saturday have a cheat meal and then get back on your meal prep the next day. Because if you just give up and just binge eat on all the bad foods that got u where u were before the surgery then the surgery was just pointless you know? It's all in your control! Just think of your goal weight and where u want to see yourself! Or even buy an outfit that u want to fit in by next summer and that can be another motivation for u! Don't give up because I'm rooting for you and I know you can do this...be strong for yourself and push through! [emoji1377][emoji171]
    I am looking to start my pre-op right after Labor Day. I know this sounds bad, but I am wanting to spend time with friends Labor Day weekend having a bit fun (while really trying to watching what I eat) and kind of considering it my farewell to the food I like for a few months while in post-op. I am having a bit of a hard time with this, a very hard time even though I am psyched about having a new life. Pre-op will be hard, but I understand after a few days it gets easier. Not an excuse by any means, but I am a Kansas Boy raised with the usual country foods, meat, potatoes, gravy, home made bread, etc. Feedback?
