Aries331 reacted to Mews in Have Any Of You Eaten Solid Food Before You Were Supposed To?
I was on liquids for a month and then soft foods for two weeks. I think the fear of getting a leak was strong enough to prevent me from eating solid foods before I was supposed to.

Yes, eating solids too early can be bad news. IMO, it's not worth pushing forward with the diet because the sleeve needs time to heal. If you're feeling "hungry", you definitely need to talk to your doctor about getting an acid reducer for you. Part of that hungry feeling is head hunger as well. For most of us, that goes away once all of the ghrelin hormone is out of our systems, which can take up to 30 days.
Is having solid foods a few days early worth the possible risk that you'll cause a leak and end up in the hospital or on a liquid diet for months instead of a few more days? I don't think so.
Instead of sitting there obsessing about what you can't eat, drink some Water, go for a walk, call a friend, or have a nice cup of warm broth. Right now it seems you'll never get to eat solid food again, but it will be a minor blip on the radar in a few weeks.
    Good luck!

Yeah I don't want advice from skinny b*****s unless they have been through it before. I hate when my friends with flat stomachs are like yeah I need to lose 20 pounds. So annoying.

You'll do great. Just remember to take care of yourself and only do what you feel comfortable and able to do. I walked a lot of loops around the ward because I felt good enough to do so. Other patients joined me and would walk one or two loops and that was plenty for them. Also take your time. Walk at a comfortable pace. It's not a race. Also sip sip sip on your Water.

Take whatever comfort items to need with you. I brought my special blankie, pajamas, robe, slippers, brush, toothbrush and toothpaste, chap stick, meds (which was the only thing I didn't use), phone and charger, and a couple extra undies.

Thanksgiving will be 2 days after leaving hospital, so I'm vegging on the couch and probably sleeping. Thankfully it's a small get together this year.

You guys are inspiring. My surgery is Monday, Nov 20th. The pre-op diet is so hard, which is why diets don't work, right? I'm just hoping that cravings subside post-surgery. While we can't physically eat, those urges are tough.

I had a small hemorrhage, which they said was normal, and did the procedure. Everyone was so kind and it went well. I’m feeling relieved this is over and now I can focus on my up coming surgery. Thank all you ladies for your support

    Hi sweetie,
If you absolutely feel it's the right thing to do for you, yiu should feel no hard regret.
I had an abortion almost 25 years ago. Married, 2 toddlers. I felt is wasn't fair to the two we already had and were barely affording. Still married to the same man, and those two toddlers are amazing, successful, kind and responsible adults.
No regrets. We did what we thought was right for our situation. That being that would have been really knows no different, as opposed to the living, breathing wonderful humans I raised.
    Hugs to you.

Yes I’m freaking out over the hcg levels. I went on October 28th to have the abortion originally and they did the ultrasound and was to early to see anything even on the vaginal ultrasound but my test can back positive so they moved it to Nov. 11th. I told the office manager I’m scheduled for gastric bypass surgery dec. 5th and she said I should be fine but I am going to ask for proof of procedure to show my PCP. Thank you all again for being so kind I really had no one to talk to about this besides my husband even tho he is supportive it’s not the same support you can get from your women peers whom may have had same experiences.

Alright, then you have a plan. I do think you're more concerned about the HCG than you have to be. Just get a note from the abortion place that you had an abortion and the date, that should take care of it for the surgery.
It will all work out, I'm sure!

I know I have my mind set, I’m just venting I had to say these things to get them off my chest... I did not see another baby in our future, I envision for my self getting healthy again for myself and my family and getting back to work and taking care of myself properly. Thank you for taking the time to respond I appreciate it.

I'm hearing a lot of uncertainty. I think you should talk to someone (preferably a doctor) to find out just how risky this pregnancy would actually be. You should absolutely do what is right for you, but I hate for you to make this big of a decision based on an insurance deductible. Money comes and goes, but regret might be there forever.
You may also be feeling some pressure because of your hubby getting a vasectomy. You are closing the door to the possibility of a post-op pregnancy as well. (There are less permanent forms of birth control if you decide to go ahead with the surgery now, and leave the possibility of another pregnancy open for a later date after you've lost weight).
Don't worry about depriving your kids of a sibling. Kids don't like to share, anyway. This is about you and your vision of the future.

Stay strong but probably best to come clean to your team. If it has to be postponed best to do it now rather than day before. So many things are connected with a surgery like this it would be unfair to you and them.
But first things first... focus on Nov 11 for the time being. Whatever it may be you’ll still need some healing time.. physical, emotional, both... so don’t just ignore this and focus on the bylass alone. Give each procedure its due. And good luck of course!

"REALISTIC" is, in this case, a non-objective opinion.
You might favour using straws and prefer to be backed up in your choice by your nutritionist's/clinic's choice of advice BUT this is not the best information for gastric surgery patients post-op.
Long-term experience shows that the vast majority of previous comfort-eaters tend to be 'gulpers' when it comes to consumption of drinks and liquids.
Just because an 'outlier' in advice confirms your preferred choice does not mean that its good advice.
It really is best for most (recovering) obese and overweight people to learn to sip liquids in very small amounts at a low rate of swallows per minute (ideally two or fewer).
Using a straw for the vast majority of people adds extraneous air into the mixture of liquids going into a now smaller stomach pouch.
By all means, drink through a straw if you wish to. Your choice. But it still remains as poor advice for the majority of post bariatric surgery people.
This is not an attack on you or how you will do what suits you. It is merely saying that most people need the best of mainstream advice which works for the great majority of people.

See, my nutritionist is a lot more realistic. We can use straws as long as we sip slowly and don't gulp air like kids tend to do. Gum is fine, because it helps clean your teeth and (if you're impatient like me) it gives you something to do during that 30-minute wait after a meal til you can drink again. I'm almost seven months out and I've used straws almost from the start with no issues. Every doctor/nutritionist is different!

It's not much of a problem for me. I did it by accident one time and nothing happened. That's the only time I've done it. I just choose not to use straws.

When it happened, I was like 3 or 4 months post op. I advise against using them though. Especially at that time.
