Congrats on your journey! I’m almost done with all of my insurance requirements, looking at a June date for r-n-y. Anyway, it may seem long winded but honestly you end up doing so many appointments that the time just kind of flies by. Best wishes!

Keto really does work from what I hear. Only complaint I’ve heard is with the making sure your body stays in ketosis but other than that, people seem to love it. Keep us posted on how it works out [emoji846]

It's crazy how fast these months went by! I'll be 4 months post op on the 11th! I'm amazed at how much better I feel in both general and also in working out. I'm a nursing student and I'm amazed that after my clinical day (11hrs on our feet) I still want to go to the gym to work out!
It's kind of weird that when I go around in my normal day, I still feel like I look like I'm 355lbs. I don't feel like I look smaller, when I buy clothes and see the smaller size and it actually fits, but I still feel just as fat, just in different sizes... But I can definitely see a difference in side by side pictures. I remember reading from post vsg patients having the same issue and now experiencing it myself is just weird. I try to do a side by side picture at least once a month so my brain can start to realize, I'm not as big as I was. I do love the energy though, and I know my brain will eventually catch up! How is everyone else doing? Post pictures, I love to see all the progress!
    Hw: 355lbs (1/5/17) size 24/26, 3-4x
    Surgery weight: 321lbs(12/11/17)
    Cw: 263.5lbs (3/20/18) size 18, 2x

If you're having a hard time doing it on your own, I would recommend enrolling in a medical weight loss program at a local hospital. This is different than just seeing a dietitian or nutritionist once a month. I'm talking about a much more comprehensive program that requires visits at least weekly. I have done this many times. The weight keeps coming back, and that's why I'm here seeking surgery now. But a very low calorie Keto diet is relatively easy to sustain when they give you (well you pay for them, of course) the products to consume, track your progress and health along the way, and basically hold your hand all the way through the program.
Bottom line: You can do this!

I saw that episode...and that dude's mouth had serious issues before he ever had surgery. The surgery might have put them over the edge due to Calcium malabsorption, but they were not healthy before hand.
Happy to report I've had no dental issues since my sleeve. Just went in (my husband says to have my fangs sharpened..lol...normal people call it a teeth cleaning) and got a clean bill of dental health.
I do think it's important to do two things though:
    1. Keep up on your cleanings and check ups and floss well. Pay attention to your teeth.
    2. Take your calcium and other Vitamins as directed and follow up with having your labs checked on schedule. At 3 months, 6 months, a year, etc.. Make sure you're not Vitamin D deficient, particularly if you live in the North where it's darker. If you are, make sure to correct your Vitamin D to a normal level so you can absorb your calcium. Go to your rechecks!
    About the cancer thing....
First off, when reading your studies....make sure they are comparing incidence of esophogeal cancer in WLS patients to other obese patients.
Second....the bariatric community....WITHOUT weight loss surgery has higher esophogeal cancer due to weight related reflux.
Third....being fat is coorelated with dozens of other cancers and ups your odds of getting one.....so even if there was a little uptick of esophogeal cancer, you'd probably still be ahead with that risk than the risk you take being significantly overweight.
Fourth....experienced surgeons are doing a better job of tightening hernias and preventing reflux in sleeve patients.
Fifth...endoscopic screenings for esophogeal cancer could become a standard part of preventative care for WLS patients...and they're pretty easy to do....if more research determines more risk.

Starting to get excited because I’m almost done with all of my appointments required before insurance submission! My upper endoscopy is in a few hours (I should be sleep), cardiology clearance on Monday, psych evaluation in April, nutrition appointment 6 of 7 the very next day. My very last appointment before submission is a nutritionist appointment in May. My surgeon’s office told me to call them as soon as I am done with the appointment. I’m looking at a June date (or hopefully late May). Sorry for being long winded, just can’t believe how fast it has all flown by. Best wishes to everyone on their journeys

Maybe you could try the optisource ones. They taste pretty good and dissolve rapidly. They're a chewable orange-citrus flavor.
