I am almost 3 weeks out and literally nothing about this is easy for me. The liquid diet has been awful and even though I was advanced to soft foods it is easier, but not easy. It's still a matter of will power. Going back to lean Protein and vegetables will be hard for the first couple of days and then it will get better and you need to start moving. Just walking will help you so much and even if the scale isn't moving, it will help you lose inches and get back into those smaller clothes! You CAN do this and I hope you know that.

My surgery was 9 days before yours and my recovery was pretty rough as well. I didn't vomit because I had nothing to vomit, but I dry heaved more times than I ever thought I could. Nausea was a huge struggle and then it just seemed to go away on it's own. I can absolutely say that I have felt better with each passing day. Take time to rest

I had a pain above/near my belly button when I overdid it (maybe not even lifting, but if I did too much around the house and my first day back to work even though I don't have an active job). It's the only incision I ever felt and in previous laparoscopic procedures, I had the same issue. I'm so sorry for how you're feeling. Unlike you, I HAVE regretted my surgery more than once and it was just three weeks before yours.
I debated whether or not we should go see my family for the holidays and I eventually decided to come. My husband says I have been really difficult and moody and he's right but I don't feel like anything is wrong...I'm not sure what it is. All that is to say this is an emotional journey as much as a physical one and even though mine feels less emotional than some, it's pretty tough at times.
I am sure your surgeon was right in his assessment. I think you should go shopping and enjoy Black Friday! More than that, I hope your sadness is short-lived. I'm so sorry you're going through this. You did such a great thing for yourself and I hope you can find comfort/satisfaction in that.

I'm jealous too. I'm hungry all the time. Deep gnawing hunger. Sucks. I very much wish I wasn't. It would make things a whole lot easier!

So it's been mostly good. I made the transition from liquids to puree with no problem and appreciated the advice about not stressing about calories, just Water & Protein. It made things seem a lot easier.
I have transitioned to soft foods; my brave try with salmon was not a good thing, but did learn a great lesson that eating too fast is a very bad idea! I'm doing well, although kind of tired of the same things. There are a lot of recipes, but it makes so much and you eat so little that there are lots of leftovers!
My weight has gone down from 197+ to 162 today, and I've lost about 50" from all over (apparently even on my feet as shoes are suddenly too big.
I am still tired, but my dr said that was a result of the second surgery & transfusions, but I should pick up before Christmas. I also start "real" food on December 2nd, so looking forward to doing some more cooking. We usually do New Orleans food for Christmas and all my kids come home, with the grandkids.
I am also off 14 medications, with only 4 a day which is amazing for me! I'm so glad I did this.
    Thanks for all your support.

I called yesterday because I can drink and drink and drink!!! I had almost 100 ounces on Wednesday (less yesterday but that was only because I forgot my Water when I was running after school errands) and they said it's fine. She said I will feel the sleeve once I begin eating food Wednesday. Occasionally I can tell I took too big a drink of water, but that's rare. I'm actually thankful for this because the last thing I want is to go back to the hospital for dehydration. I was worried because I read all those posts from people who said they no longer liked to drink water. Until Wednesday, I will continue to dream about cottage cheese and scrambled eggs!
But, seriously, to the OP, it is essentially a situation of caloric restriction and since we know we are taking in far fewer calories, eventually we will lose the weight. That said, our bodies are used to having extra weight and are doing everything they can to keep those extra pounds but if you stick to it, it will work. Let's see if I am so confident in 3 months

First thing first follow your DR.'s food plan. Just because someone else is on another program does not mean you can be as well. People forget that each DR has their suture strategy and techniques some heal faster than others but can also have different side effects. SO FOLLOW YOUR DR's PLAN not someone in some forum.
Second great job on the weight loss. Each person will lose more or less than the next. You did not wake up one day and was overweight. It took time, and like Gas Prices which always goes up overnight but comes down over months, your weight will do the same.
At the stage you are in your concern should be staying hydrated. I try to drink over 120oz of Water but if you can get in 64 that is great. You will find that once you move into soft foods things will change for you.
Once you move into soft foods that is when you should start watching and monitoring your daily calorie intake. I eat about 1000 - 900 calories per day regardless of what exercise I do for the day.
You need to count every calorie that goes into your mouth. I use a product called "Lose it" on my iPhone it has a vast database of most foods, and you can use the barcode feature to add foods as well. Studies have shown people that count their calories do better at losing weight because most people who say they eat 1200 calories per day consume over 1000 more than they thought.
Hang in there your body will fight you; let's face it junk food tastes excellent that why we ate it, to begin with, but after awhile of eating healthy I promise you that bag of chips and pizza will taste like metal.

Best wishes and be patient, i believe your are going to see great results soon

It'll come off. Most programs advise you not to weigh yourself outside of post-op checkins with doctors. we all weigh ourselves anyway. lol. but it'll be better once you're able to walk/run/whatever exercise you do, to get your metabolism moving, and believe it or not, once you're able to eat MORE you might start losing more.

As I see it, though, as long as the scale is moving in the right overall direction, don't stress it.

I understand from previous surgery that the preop diet is low in carbs so you lose glycogen which holds Water, and as you start to eat again you regain the water you lost but are still losing fat.

I am nearly the same for wt loss at 13 days post-op. I lost 10 on pre-op liquids and 5 at my 1 week post-op weigh-in. I too am not taking in much nutrition, ab 400 calories, ab 45gr Protein and 40oz Water. I intend to increase my protein and water as much as I can, but it is hard to do. We have to hang in there and keep going.
I am consuming some pureed cottage cheese, pureed tuna and avocado, and ricotta bake - small small amounts. As well as a shake and some Isopure clear Protein Drink.
And sf chocolate pudding did not sit well at all - so that is off my list - who knows why.
Your hunger could be acid reflux. I am def NOT hungry, could care less about food - but not fond of passing out either lol.

It does kind of sound like you’re not intaking enough. 3 weeks liquid it kind of rough. I was on full liquids ( puréed Soups, Jello, yogurt, Protein shakes) 24 hours after surgery and for the next 3 weeks I could have all of the above plus moist tuna, and puréed meats ( I skipped those cuz bleh) I just got cleared to eat regular food and I am rejoicing. You seem to be active. I’m not expert but my gut is telling me you’re not intaking enough for your body to burn off. Congrats on your weight loss tho! Every pound counts

So...I had my surgery on 25 October and I've lost FIVE POUNDS in ELEVEN DAYS. My surgery weight was 233. I lost 9 pounds on the pre-op diet and they said my liver looked fabulous. I could honestly lose more weight at almost any diet and have more energy. My surgeon has a 3-week post-op liquid diet but at 2 weeks I can add Soup and pudding. I am beginning to think I am not getting enough calories. I am walking at least 2 miles a day and drinking at least 48 ounces of Water plus 2 Protein Shakes and broth. I'm not so much frustrated, but disappointed. I feel like this is a huge sacrifice and I'm not seeing any results. In the past 11 days I have had under 400 calories a day and almost nothing to show for it.
On Thursday I called the nutritionist and I told her I was hungry and she gave some very unhelpful tips like "you can have broth and decaffeinated tea" (thanks, I can read so I already know that) and said I could have 3-4 shakes a day but I can barely stomach the 2 I do drink. I have tried different brands, but I'm so over them.
Please tell me your stories about how you also didn't lose weight...and then you did!

I had my surgery on October 25th and I have lost 14 pounds. I feel your pain and I am also very frustrated. I have been walking a lot and people have commented that I have lost weight. I expected to lose much more by now but there isn't much I can do about it. We have gotten through the most difficult part (well, I still have 5 days until I can eat but you're there!) so we need to follow through and know that this WILL work if we follow the plan. Hang in there

I live with my hubby and MIL.
While I was on the liquid preop diet MIL brought home no less than a dozen cakes, pies, ice cream, etc. She's one sick cookie.
I considered it trial by fire... controlled myself.... and now I'm reaping the benefits because I'm not bothered by looking at sweets anymore.
She is now on a diet herself, and I'm tempted to do the same thing back to her...
