Rainbow_Warrior got a reaction from Strivingforbetter in High carb, high protein, low fat diet 6 months post op during intense physical activity?
    Warning bells times two.
    1. I am fortunate to have a WLS package ... the pre-op supervision, the surgeon, the op itself, the post op supervision by an exercise physiologist AND the post op supervision by an experienced bariatric clinic dietitian.
    2. I exercise 29 days per month ... 2.5 to 3.75 hours per day of swimming and pool aerobics.
My calorie intake is set at 900 cals daily with 62grams minimum Protein and serious advice to keep the protein to carbs ratio in the order of 5:3 or, at worst 5:4.
Because of my highly busy exercise regime, I usually need extra calories. I tend to finish each day at 1150 to 1450 calories consumed.
I am in week 15 post op and have lost 1.3kg to 1.4kg average per week. (That's 2.8 to 3.1 pounds).
If she is not experienced with your post-WLS, I'd counsel you to rethink.
If your clinic/surgeon has not provided better info, GO BACK and ask for it.
I am only a single voice but I think you need a different strategy ... I am no expert but I am getting post op help from a range of experts who are "tied" to me for 15 months post-op. That $1000 is well worth it.

This is definitely going to be a journey! I advanced to soft food yesterday after my 1 week post-op appointment. It’s insane how SLOW you have to eat. I never thought eating would be a chore. However, I’m grateful because I’ve had absolutely no nausea or vomiting. I did the liquid diet for 7 days prior to surgery, so in 2 weeks I’ve lost 14 lbs. I kind of wished for more, but my doctor says the next month is where I’m going to see a big drop. I don’t think I’ve worked up to 64 ounces yet, still trying. I need to incorporate more activity but my right side still gives me a fit so my walks around the block have been at snails pace. If anyone out there who wants to share their experiences, I could use someone can relate.

Be careful about chugging too much! It is absolutely awesome that you're getting your fluids in effortlessly...but keep in mind that your incision is still only a few days old and you need to baby it for a while...because you do NOT want a leak. They're awful. And yep, you can still get them in the first 30 days after surgery...so be gentle and don't overfill!
My doctor stressed not to put more than 4 ounces of Fluid in your new tummy per hour for the first week. Preferably one ounce per 15 minutes. I could do much more than this as time went on...but I did my best to limit it to his recommendation for the sake of letting my incision in my stomach heal. Better to be safe than sorry. Discretion is the better part of valor, here:)
It sounds like you're going to have an easy time of it...like I did...and I know I'm truly grateful for my good luck.
Glad you're feeling so well:) Do hold your horses a little, though! Let that tummy heal:)

For the (mostly) non-Australians among you.
Australia is as big as the continental USA (no Alaska, no Hawai'i)
I have included a "wide shot" of Australia. RED ARROW.
I also have a close-up of my part of the east coast in New South Wales (state).

I didn't change my drivers license photograph for several years after I had surgery and lost 120 pounds. Whenever I wrote a check and they asked to see my driver's license, I would give it to them and watch to see if they ever noticed the difference. They never did.

My surgeon was happy to go ahead when my BMI was over 50.
His limit was that, unless exceptional circumstances apply, he won't do WLS on MOST people over 65 years of age.
I was 61 years 4 months when I was sleeved.

Thanks I will. Someday I dream of visiting Oz, where I'd like most to go is Coober Peedy ( maybe there's only 1 e?) Anyway I think opals are beautiful even if it is nasty hot and dusty there. Maybe see Ayers Rock? Probably never get there at my age but I can dream. Put a shrimp on the Barbie for me,mate.

Thank you Rainbow Warrior for your return post. I truly value yours, you were one of the first I read and you've always been spot on. I think the thing was: they looked at my plump exterior and made no effort to get to know me inside. I could be more forgiving if it hadn't been a concerted effort on their part. The best I got from one of them " Ah she's little pretty in the face" like the rest of my body was a pile of refuse. I used to try to please everybody and sublimated my,own worth in the process. I'm finally making a firm commitment to health and a future for myself. I value your further consul on this journey I've undertaken. Its winter here but enjoy a beautiful Summer day in Australia.

Next time someone suggests you took the easy way about, just ask them what kind of idiot chooses the hard way. That is like in the movies when the heroine backs into a dark room when they hear a scary noise....who the f&#’k does that?!!! So the path on the left will be long and arduous and result in 95 percentile of failure (a statistical fact). or the path on the right may be shorter and have some obstacles but a 75% rate of long term success. Chosing the path to failure does not result in a martyrdom award in real life or really any kind of rewards...so why exactly does that make sense?

Once I get into the 100's....ten or so pounds to go....my bestie and I are going to one of those indoor trampoline park places. I met her the first day of first grade. 40 years is a long time to know someone:) Of course jumping on trampolines in your mid 40's is sort of deranged....but when we're together everything is fun and we laugh way too much:) We're also going roller skating. Bahahaha!
Oh! And I'm taking hubby on a replay of our cheapo and sentimental camping honeymoon 25 years ago this summer. We're going to a Water park and doing water slides. Funnel of Fear, here I come:) Looking very forward to playing in Lake Michigan in a swimsuit and not feeling self conscious:) Will also do some horseback riding on the lake shore, ride the carousel, go metal detecting, read books to each other and play cribbage. Looking very forward to this:)

In an extreme case, this period can be six WEEKS but I've not heard of six MONTHS until you mentioned it.
I'm tipping a misunderstanding or an unfortunate glitch.
Contact the practice or the dietitian ASAP to clarify that you heard it right or that it was written down correctly.
Do NOT change doctor unless you find out that it's not a glitch/miscommunication.

Are you keeping a food journal? If not, start logging your intake, it's easy to underestimate how much we're actually eating, either in portion size or eating small amounts through the day that add up. Are you getting enough Water, enough sleep?
Go ahead and call your docs office, you may end up talking to someone else in the office that is nice and more helpful. (Fingers crossed!)

I would say.... Are you considering weight loss surgery, too? I can hook you up with my surgeon:)
It's possible that she, herself, has had bypass in the past and she had a different experience than you're having. I know other sleevers who are horrified I ate 1000 calories a day at 3 weeks...even though I'm following my doctor's orders precisely. Because my doctor's orders conflicts with theirs....i'm wrong and there's no winning. LOL:)
I think you should investigate why she's so interested.
I'd ask her if she's had bypass herself.
When she says...Should you be eating that? Ask...her if she's a secret bariatric surgeon or bariatric nutritionist? Because surely her expertise must be coming from some hidden formal education.
She'll undoubtedly counter.....Well, I'm just concerned that you're going to hurt yourself and blah blah blah...
To which you should respond.....Thank you for your concern, but what, exactly, gives you the right to address my medical issues? I don't recall soliciting your input.
She'll blather on about trying to help.
Say....I don't experience your comments that way. I experience them as criticism and harassment. Kindly stop.
And then change the subject and try to end on a positive note. Ending on a more positive note is important. You do have to work with her...and she might just be too dumb to realize she has no business commenting. For all you know, she lives with someone who nitpicks everything she eats. Try to give her that benefit of the doubt and let it go.
    Should do the trick.

Four and a half months out from surgery... This morning, I noticed something weird above my thigh getting out of the shower. Kind of a lump, it looked like.
I was worried for a minute then I noticed it was on the other side, too. It was my hip bone. It has never been visible before in my entire adult life.

I parked in a tight parking space and was still able to squeeze out of my door, without touching the car next to me. In the past I would not have been able to get out of my car.
