Tracyringo got a reaction from justmetj in Will gastric sleeve work for me?
I have read articles saying the sleeve has more restriction then the RNY . I am 23 months out and still have great restriction. Before the surgery my portion size was huge and I loved cake, ice cream and candy lol. Now I keep all that stuff out of my house and when I want something I go out and get a one serving.
Either surgery will work and you get out of it what you put into it. You have to remember its a tool. Good luck to you !

Are you measuring the amounts of the soft foods and sticking to your doctor's portion sizes? If so, there's no problem. Some people just have an easier time than others and you may be one of them.
Also, before deciding you're hungry, try to sort out head-hunger. The way to tell is to think about what you'd like to eat. If you feel hungry and would be happy to eat some egg or soft fish then it's probably true hunger. If you're far more picky about what you want to eat then it's probably head hunger and you should try to distract yourself. Most cravings cease within 20 minutes or so if you don't give in.
    Good luck on your journey!

It can be very aggravating with stalls, just keep following the plan and the weight will start coming off again. My experience was I would not lose for 3 weeks but maybe a pound or 2 then BAM I would lose 5-8 pounds in a week. Everyone is different on how there bodies release the weight, so whatever you do stick with your plan.

They do come in handy. Kids eat more in a sitting then I do, lol.
Have you ever had the waiter or waitress keep asking if you want something to drink? I now just tell them Water and leave it sitting there, it is just easier then explaining it or to keep saying no thank you.

The bariatric team here gives a special dietary needs card which gives me children price on a buffet (Golden Corral ) or I can order off the child menu if I go out to eat.

Ohhhh @azhiker I love your excitement!!! Haha so fun.

@losingit2018 my surgeon said the DS is the way to go he doesn’t revise to the bypass and since I have the sleeve already i can see advantages to the DS.

I’m not confident another surgery will be the answer since it seems like I have been gaining weight so easily w the sleeve after 2 years. I don’t want to redo my insides and have bathroom issues for the rest of my life and still be fat. Sigh

I am a sleeve patient and don’t have any answers for you. I am wondering why would a person choose ds over bypass revision?
I don’t know much about ds but I may soon be facing the decision to revise myself. So I am curious what the benefits may be with ds over bypass?

Oh my goodness! Beyond happy! My joints don't hurt, my sleep apnea is almost gone, I can hike for hours, I can get down on the floor with my grandkids and actually get up again! My thighs don't rub together. My blood pressure is normal. I took a bath in our big tub this week and could actually get out by myself! I had to tarp a load of hay this week all by myself. It was going to rain and the tarp had to get on. I had to climb along the sides of the trailer to drag the tarp over the top of the hay and I did it! I could not have done that 6 months ago. I can squeeze through tight spots at work and reach over beds for equipment... and no one has to move aside for me. I went from 2-3X scrubs to MEDIUM! I don't have heartburn or asthma flares anymore. I have tons more energy and am less depressed. I am comfortable at 80 degrees instead of insisting that that ac be turned to 68. I have not gotten yeast infections in the skin folds this summer because most of the skin fold are GONE! I can stand up in church without my belly hitting the chair in front of me. I can ride my mule again! I can kayak without swamping the boat. Someone referred to me as "skinny" this week! Do you still want me to go on? My life is soooooo much better for having had this surgery. Giving up large quantities of food is nothing compared to the quality of life I have now. I have more confidence, and far less shame. I can hardly wait to get my 6 month labs back to see the difference in my A1C, cholesterol, triglycerides.
PS - So sorry. I jumped the gun. I see your question was actually to DS patients. I had bypass and would also like to hear how DS patients feel about their surgeries.

Tracyringo reacted to Alex Brecher in I had my Gastric Bypass reversed 😞
On June 30th, I had my Gastric Bypass reversed, due to a hernia and small bowel obstruction 😞 It was a 6 hour open procedure. I was hospitalized for 9 days and it’s going to take a bit until I fully recover.
After having some form of weight loss surgery since 2003, my anatomy has been put back to normal.
I’m sad that I no longer have a tool to help me with my weight but I’m glad that I’m alive and able to talk about it.
Thank you to my friends that prayed and supported me through this difficult time!

Tracyringo reacted to FluffyChix in pouch reset
Try it! Let us know! You're about "on schedule" for pouch healing which allows you to naturally be able to eat more. Which is why I've always been so militant that the "everything in moderation" is a lie for most of us--cuz soon 1 piece of pizza turns into 2 or 3.
Dr. Weiner has YT about it.
I do a Water fast for a day or two--or a Bone Broth fast. I'm starting one today as a matter of fact. I ate healthy foods this weekend, but way too big of servings. So now it feels like time to fast. My pouch always feels more sensitive after that fasting. I may add back Protein Drinks as the next stage.
So it would be 2 days Clear Liquids (broth, water, decaff black coffee, decaff teas).
2 days of Protein drinks + clear liquids
2 days of purees/mushies + protein drinks + clear liquids
2 days of softs + everything above
    start adding back foods.

Is a pouch reset diet okay to do simply when you don't feel much restriction anymore, but aren't actually gaining any weight? Will it be helpful in any way to bring some feelings of restriction back? I'm finding I can fit a lot more in lately and I don't like it. lol. I was going to do a modified "pouch reset" of Protein Shakes and a hardboiled egg for 3 days, then purees 2 days, then soft solids for 2 days.

I had GERD really bad befit surgery. It went away for about a year, but is back with a vengeance. Certain foods make it much worse and I’ve also had to hernias on top of that. I take Zantac and Pepto to keep it u set control and limit red sauces.

Tracyringo reacted to Cheeseburgh in When can I have some rice? Lol
I think rice was the first real carby thing I tried. I was probably 4 months out and had no problems. I still eat rice, rice pilaf, and brown rice on occasion. I still limit it to 2-3 tablespoons. I am the type of person who has to add something starchy at times to stay sane. I just avoid potatoes and white bread because I love them too much.

Take measurements. i take them once a month: breast, chest (just under the boobs), waist, hips, both thighs, both calves, both upper arms, neck.
Several times in months I lost less, I lost more inches and vice versa. Its weird, but it helps to know I'm still on the right track.

Thank you to all who answered my question without a sermon attached. Simply put, the information supplied by my surgeon didn’t address rice. I never said I was going to sit down and gorge on rice, but rather, I wanted to know when I could safely eat a small spoonful with my Protein or it could be incorporated into a recipe.

Look for the website called the world according to eggface she is a bariatric patient that has awesome simple recipes for each stage. Most folks love her ricotta bake recipe including myself.
I would eat refried Beans with some mozzarella salsa and sour cream before kidney beans. I think that it would be easier to digest. Good luck and hang in there

Tracyringo reacted to FluffyChix in What do you do when you don’t want to eat?
Take advantage of this time. ^^^This is the best advice!!!
It is supposed to be hard to eat. It is supposed to be "no" interest in food. I swear it all comes back in the end. Then you have to fight it. So spend the time learning how to build brand new healthy relationships and eating habits. Spend the time reading, walking, taking up a creative outlet that keeps your mind, and senses engaged and activated.
You do need to get your minimum Protein each day. You do. You have to figure out a way to do it. That's part of the process.

For me, it was easy to get my 50-70g of protein per day. I did protein lattes, protein ice teas, protein broths/soups, yogurt with protein in it, cottage cheese with protein in it. And I love tuna salads and chicken salads so it was easy for me...
Embrace the food aversion period. Get the minimum and be done.
