I am weighing in at 170.4 this morning. I haven't had any more bathroom issues since I stopped taking the bariatric45. The Flinestones chewable have 36 Iron. ( I take 2 ) I am wondering if the bariatric45 wasn't dissolving maybe? I will talk to the Dr about it on Tuesday for my 1 month checkup.
I had 3 oz of beef filet last night without any issues. I measure and weigh food but rarely finish, when I belch I stop eating since I don't feel the food most of the time.
I don't have much desire to eat . I find myself eating so I can take Vitamins more then anything.
My son is getting married this weekend so I am looking forward to seeing all 3 of my kids together again ! It has been 5 years since we all were together which means I weighed 300 lbs the last time !

    Yes. I had esophagitis D..
I have bad episodes with dumping so I do have to be careful. My dumping is intense cramping in the abdomen and I cant vomit, so I usually lay down and cry for a couple of hours. It has gotten better though the episodes are not lasting as long. Very helpful deterrent for sure. I dump on sugary carbs, Cereal of any kind, ice cream, or if I overeat. On occasion I will have a frozen yogurt and seem to do okay with that. I had an obsession with cupcakes and after a meal I can have a few bites. I dont do cupcakes anymore its too much of a waste.
I am still on the same PPI but it works much better now and my esophagitis is an A now, so that is good.
Good luck with your revision. Love to hear what ya think.

How are you doing? My first appointment with a new bariatric surgeon in in about 3.5 weeks. Sleeved in 2010, indigestion, heartburn, GERD started about 18 months later, progressing to 8 - 10 Tums every single day for years. I had no idea it was a big deal, but it is not safe. I am sure the subject of a revision will come up. Please tell me how you're doing if you have time.

did you have the revision because of GERD? I'm gathering information prior to my June 17th appt. What makes you dump and how bad is it? Do you throw up, hot flashes or what? Do you think it to be a helpful thing as far as a deterrent? Fats and sweets, do you have to stay totally away or just be very careful? Thank you! Oh, are you still on a PPI? If I have to go this route, I sure hope I can get off of the meds.

Yes I am sure it is Water. I dump the same way and it is horrible. It usually takes about 2 hours to pass. I pretty much know what foods will trigger and episode or if I eat too much I will have one. AWFUL !!!!
Do you know what triggers a dumping episode for you or does it change. I would not dump on pretzels. I dump on sweets of pretty much any kind if I eat more then a few bites. Cereal is a big no no for me as well. It has something to do with the cereal/ milk combination . Yet I can eat oatmeal ??????? LOL

Revisions are different for everyone. I had a lot of anxiety afterwards because of not having restriction like I had with the sleeve. It has taken me a long while to finally get use to it. Part of that anxiety was me thinking I would have problems with regain because of not having the restriction. I dump and get violently ill from eating wrong thing or too much food, so I am very careful now.
You will lose the weight just make sure you follow the plan like you did with VSG. I was at goal with my revision but I lost 12 lbs the first month. I weighed in on Dr scale yesterday at 157. I am down 23 lbs and holding.
I will say this. It is a lot easier for me to maintain my weight now then with the VSG and I stay 10 to 15 lbs lower then with VSG. Good luck and PM me anytime

8 months and 3 days post op. Weight holding steady between 158 and 162 for several months now.
I still have Gerd and am on same PPI before surgery.
No problems with foods as long as I stay away from the things that make me dump violently🤢. Also I have to be minded about the amount or I will get violently ill too.

I am 9 months post revision to RNY. Things are good and I like the RNY much better then I did the first several months. I am weighing in at 156 this morning. It is much easier for me to maintain this weight then it was for me to stay under 170 with VSG. CRAZY but its true !! I just keep waiting for the ball to drop like what is the catch? I also wonder if there is a honeymoon phase with a revision ?

Tracyringo reacted to StratusPhr in Did revision due to weight gain actually work for you?
I was up at 2:30 AM sipping (3 sips will do it) a carbonated drink because of chest pain. This has been going on since about 18 months after sleeve surgery. (June 2010!!!) I had NO idea this was a hiatal hernia symptom. My NP (when I finally said something a couple of years later) called it non cardiac chest pain, said I was having spasms. Medication prescribed did not help at all. I finally stopped and tried what a friend told me to do. Take a few sips of a carbonated drink. I resisted because I don't drink anything carbonated since before surgery. It worked and I keep something in the frig at all times. I hope this new doctor who is familiar with bariatric patients, will help me and insurance will cover it. Thank you and good luck!!!

Tracyringo reacted to GreenTealael in Hey! Revision(ist), I want to hear from you! Tell me your experience: revision in June. Nervous
Sleeved Nov 2017 then Revised July 2019 (for GERD, hernia, sleeve torsion etc)
Almost immediately after no more issues with GERD. I developed a stricture early out but it was dilated and resolved.
I initially lost more weight (around 15lbs) but it wasn’t where I or my surgeon wanted me to be so I gained it back. My weight may fluctuate a few lbs on either side of my goal but that is usually due to events
I wasn’t hungry immediately after surgery but that’s normal for me, hunger returned and it was no big deal as I had already had a return on hunger a year before with VSG. Some people (myself included) have a experienced a change in restriction from VSG to RNY (less, more or different restriction)
I actually had an easier recovery with the revision. It was a short learning curve with new bathroom habits.
    Overall very satisfied.

My dr recommended the patch because I was having trouble with the pills. Maybe the thinking is something is better than nothing at this point. 🤷‍♀️Might try again in a few months. May still have an issue due to prior history before surgery.

Thanks for sharing your story Tracy. Sounds like all is well and you’re learning your new tummy and digestive system. All is well here also. I’m down to 189 and getting my strength back. Worst issue for me is dumping and stomach aches...going to get checked for ulcer to rule it out. Let’s stay in touch.

Had the revision done at 7 30 am this morning weighing in at 180 my original goal weight. The first 12 hours were horrible. This was a very painful surgery for me and I don't know if it was because they also took the hernia I had. ( I believe they said they took it and not fixed it but I am still on the drugs. ) I have been given morphine to start with then they switched me to dillata because the morphine wasn't cutting it. I am back on liquid hydro now. I wasn't able to urinate either for the first several hours and I am still having a hard time with it. I have been crying through most of the day. Pain, anxiety and lack of sleep have been my companions as they are still not letting visitors in. I cant tell if I still have GERD . The gas pain has been in my neck and shoulders it sucks. I did 3 laps around the ward at 1 am to see if it would help because I thought I had read it helps with the gas. Well I will keep updating my progress here. Good night

Well well well, its been 1 year ago today had had my revision to bypass !! I weighed in this morning at 154 !!!
I still am on my dexilant 60mg for the GERD. I talk half in morning and half at night and it keeps me from burning. I dont see myself ever being able to get off of it at this point but that is okay because my last EDG showed esophagitis D down to an A.
I had so much anxiety about doing this revision because I liked my sleeve so much and I missed the restriction I had with it. I wasnt sure how I would maintain my weight loss without it. Well I will tell you that the dumping has been no joke for me and I have to watch it. I also think my metabolism had to have changed and the malabsorption of calories did something also. I started at 180 the day I had the revision and lost 12lbs that first month. I lost 25lbs around 7 months which was 151lbs total and I started at 311. I have pretty much maintained without too much effort, which I never could have done with VSG. I ate around 800 calories just to stay under 170 !!! I would have gone with RNY to begin with had I known how much easier it would have been for me.
Good luck to all of you on your journey !!

Dont listen to all the stories of people losing 20lbs in the first month. This is your journey and it doesnt matter how long it takes you to get there as long as you get there !!! I only lost 14lbs that first month after VSG and heard all those same 20lbs in first month but I stuck to the plan and lost 131lbs the first year !! You can do this !

Now loosing about pound a day. But I measure everything and really watch what I eat. I even stop although I can eat more. Good luck. Stick with the plan.

Don't be irritated, sour mood tends to cause bigger appetite than usual

Put your food in a smaller bowl and eat with teaspoon, count your chews and pause after each swallow. Slow down eating and enjoy the taste all the best!!

A whole sandwich is surely not on the plan. No bread or sugar until you reach goal. You will reach goal if you stick to the plan. I only lost 14 or 15 ibs my first month and by month 7 I was losing 6 to 7 lbs a month but I got there and its not easy. You can do this !!!

Tracyringo reacted to catwoman7 in What post-op diet did your surgeon/nutritionist put you on, and what is your current success/failure result years later?
I probably ate that little only for the first two or three months. After that it was around 800 cal/day for a few months - and then I was up to around 1000 calories at around 10 months out. I didn't consistently go over 1000 until about the year mark, but WAS consistently over it the second year. Maybe 1000-1200 calories a day. I finally stopped losing weight at 20 months out and gradually increased my calories until I found my sweet spot.
I gained 10 lbs in year 3 (which is very common - and frankly, I needed to - I'd gotten too thin), and then another 10 during the past year (thanks, COVID), which I would like to lose again.
I can maintain if I stay in the 1500-1700 range (that's going to vary for everyone depending on a number of factors).
I never reverted to eating junk. I almost always eat healthy foods - Protein, fruit, vegetables, complex carbs (like whole grains). It's not that I NEVER it junk, but on a regular basis or every day, no. And I have to really monitor what I eat because if I go over my safe range too many times in a week, my weight will start heading north. Like Creekimp, if I have a blow out day one day, I'll cut back for a couple of days so that my week will average out.
your sleeve should still work. to lose the weight again, you'll have to ditch the junk and start eating like we were supposed to be eating again - protein first, then veggies. Small servings of fruit or whole grains are also OK. Figure out how many calories you're eating now by tracking for a few days. Then gradually cut back until you get to a range where you're losing again (gradually cutting is easier for ME, anyway - drastic cuts like 500 calories cut at a pop are tough for me - maybe that's not true of everyone). Losing weight the second time around is much slower, but it CAN be done.
and do find a therapist if you need help with your eating issues. Lots of us have used them and find they help.

What you are describing...(in my opinion) is a bariatric surgeon who uses his patients as advertisements to get business. People saw you shrink overnight and it made them believers...so now he's got more business.
Here's the problem... No one should ever be on a 600 calorie diet for any long period of time. It's unsustainable, unhealthy, and screws your metabolism to high heaven. It also exacerbates eating disorders and disordered thinking about food...which most of us have. (so says my bariatric therapist, dietician and surgeon)
My surgeon was part of a research project that examined post operative metabolic changes and diet long term. I'm still part of his study and will be ten years out.
We were encouraged to eat 1200 calories a day as soon as possible after surgery. I did this at three weeks post op. We were encouraged to eat lots of protien and few refined carbs. However...unrefined carbs with lots of Fiber were encouraged. I ate oatmeal, potatoes, whole grain toast, nuts, brown rice, etc. The only carbs we actively avoided were sugar, white flour refined stuff, and fruit juice (much better to get it in whole fruit which we were encouraged to eat).
I lost slowly, but I lost to goal. Have been at goal 3 years with the occasional 5 pound backslide...that I promptly address with the bariatric therapist, and lose back to goal. Never takes long...and a little gain is usually a cue that something is stressing me out and I'm regressing to old habits. My program emphasised addressing disordered eating and working on food addiction behavior with new coping behaviors. A bariatric therapist is integral. Don't be without one. Fixing your stomach doesn't fix your head.
I eat 1400-1600 calories a day and maintain well. I walk 10,000+ steps each day and try to get 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day.
I can eat absolutely anything I want now. I do have to plan for indulgent foods and make sure to balance the calories in my day...but after a while, it's getting to be second nature. I eat at events and special occasions and cut back a little for a couple days before or after. It works.
I think my gut bugs have changed (another goal of my program....to change the gut microbiota to resemble the diversity of a healthy weight person). I prefer whole grains, lean protien (lots coming from plant sources), love Beans, mushrooms and potatoes, I shop the produce section more than any other section of the store...love my fruits and veggies. One HUGE change....I pay attention to dietary fiber. I eat at least 25g of Dietary Fiber every day. Most of my fats are plant fats. I do eat meat, but not like most people on here. Meat for me is a special occasion thing, not a staple in my diet. Junk food doesn't taste like it used to. Very honestly. I don't like the taste as much as I used to. If anyone had told me that I would find french fries a turn-off...EVER...I'd have said they were a liar. Loved them. Have no interest in them now....go figure!
Everyone will have a hugely different experience and opinion....and that's ok. People should do what works for them. But my feeling is that my success is down to three things... Learning to balance and be aware of every damned calorie I eat. Eating a high fiber diet with tons of plant protien. Seeing my bariatric therapist PROMPTLY when I know I'm regressing to food addict behavior.
Wishing you the very best. I hope you find a sustainable diet you can tolerate and feel your best eating. Good Luck.

I had the gastric sleeve performed in July of 2017. The post-op diet consisted of 500 - 600 calories, less than 15 total carbs, and as little fat as possible. This was to be followed until you reached the end goal weight.
My surgeon's goal wait for me was 130 lbs, which is at the higher range of a normal BMI for my 5-ft 1-in height. When I followed that plan I lost weight, but after following it for about a year, it got to be too much like torture, and as soon as I started falling off of the diet, I fell really hard.
I started eating junk food and carbs/snacks every 30 minutes to every 2 hours and I gained all of the weight I lost after surgery back (I'm thankfully still below my highest weight). I've been unable to stick to a diet for longer than 3 days since. So I'm just curious what other surgeons / nutritionists recommended for other patients and whether they are success stories or failure stories, like mine. I'm hoping to model my diet towards the more successful options and see if that is more obtainable in the long run. Thank you all for your responses! Have a great day!
