So, it actually is 3# a week, average. Sounds like you lost a bunch of weight because you were sick, and water loss verses true weight loss got masked. Look to long term averages, is my recommendation.

I feel your pain. BCBS is really 7 appts with dietitian, the first being "0", for a firm 180 days. Then (at least for me) a month later for surgery in order to guarantee approval. Sux. On the bright side, enjoy the holidays, time will fly by (I hope). Plus, if you schedule the followups now, you'll get the most convenient time slots (I did). -
Hi, I'm in Annapolis, and surgery is at AAMC, too, with Dr. Gandsas. My surgery date is pretty far in the future -- March 14th.

Amburmist, that's 3 pounds per week -- in 50 weeks, that 150 pounds. Plus whatever you lost in the 2 week pre-surgery liquid period.

My experience (one of many): 180 days from first dietitian class, surgeon's office will submit paperwork for insurance approval. Four months in (seminar mid-August), I have a surgery date in March 2018 and followup appointment scheduled throughout the year. My surgeon schedules 3 appointments through the process -- at my second appointment, I had finished my "homework". -
BCBS MD -- I've seen a little runaround on this issue -- surgeon says its a an insurance issue, insurance says its a medical issue. I've concluded that its inevitable, and everyone is making money in the meanwhile. While we wait.

Congrats! I just finished everything, too, and my surgery date is March 14 -- ugh. I started in August, and the ladies that run the office say I need 180 days before they can submit for approval, and then they build in a month. Sigh, so depressing. I selfishly want to know if I am the only one? -
Got my date, and I'm kinda bummed because its so far away: March 14th. My surgeon is a marshmallow about the dates, but his office staff is run by an 86-star general and she says I have to have 180 days in before we file with insurance -- not just 6 dietitian meetings, but 7, effectively. And here I thought I could even get in early -- nope! Oh well, it is what it is.
My personal goal is to lose 10 pounds by March 1st, but no more. Feels doable.

March 14th is a blink in the eye of time! Believe me, it will pass faster than you think. I don't have a surgery date yet but I am using this time wisely to start developing the better habits needed for success after surgery. I have made it a soft goal to try to lose 30 pounds prior to the day of surgery. My insurance does not require it, but my body will sure thank me. You can do this!

Awww girlie!! I'm so sorry about this!! But I do agree with @BlackCatMatt--that the day will be here before you realize it--especially with the holidays here.

I had to wait six months. It goes by quickly, believe it or not, and helps prepare you.

I'm a foodie, too. I am hoping that I can pour this energy into perfecting the right kinds of recipes and cooking techniques for my long-term success, but I'll have to wait and see how my body processes surgery. I cant imagine doing this with kids -- at least MY picky carb-centric kids. :-) 22yo son is still living with us, but he's got his own life going on, and I've been weaning him off Mommy services like daily dinners, so there won't be any shocks. I am preparing my husband to make lunch his main meal, and count on lean protein and veges from me after 7 weeks (my surgeon has a slow food rollout...). He's on board! -

Jess, this is a great visual -- thanks for sharing, and by the grace of God, there go I :-) Except for the marathons, because I cant walk cause of my feet. Maybe swim a marathon?? I do have a backyard pool... ps, I just showed my husband your journey and he's thinking you are hawt, LOL -
You say after-the-fact, and as I predict my husband will find. But the OP's GF? She doesn't know whats coming and she is happy with their life now. How to reassure her?

aw, but really? We can want what we want and commit to change our lives, but the people with us are effected. I always made great dinners and now you have to make your own dinners -- big game changer, imo. Not enough to dissuade me from surgery, but enough to know to SO's life is going to change and maybe for the worse, at least for 6-12 months.

Also, I dont think she wants you to fail, probably she is afraid of how your surgery will change her life (said someone who doesn't know you or her). Her fear may be completely rationale, IMO. I don't get the "you are going to leave me" aspect, but then, I am old. :-) Hopefully others will weigh in.
