I have said this in another thread - and it still holds true. Tell people to Inform them, NOT to Affirm you. This is an individual choice and an individual journey. Courage should be embraced and admired - as many testimonials on this site can attest.
The people who don't want you to be happier and healthier are people that you don't need in the long run anyway. If it wasn't your surgery, it would be something else that would have caused them to move on. Either way, You are the better for the decision You have made - BRAVO!!

Some people think surgery is sooooo drastic. But now days they have such awesome technology that I think it would be silly to NOT have it. But sure as s**t as soon as you involve others they suddenly become Dr doggie howser lol. Ignore them and come here. I'm not telling many because I had a failed lap band and I could only imagine what they say about the Sleeve. Bottom line.... You do you girl. We're here for you

Try Bariatric Advantage, it is expensive, I agree but I always look at it as how much per "meal" does it cost. I have fun with the mixology of it. I make my own, use the bariatric advantage with unsweetened almond milk (Low fat high Calcium ) and then i mix. Today I made a mango vanilla with frozen mango. I order Davinci No calorie syrups to make great flavors. I also us PB2 its a dry Peanut Butter low fat lower calorie. I make a strawberry and PB2 with vanilla and it takes like a PB&J. Also chocolate Protein and coconut milk takes like an almond joy;). Have fun with it like you would making dinner. One last thing, add stevia to sweeten to taste.. That helps too

Could I suggest webstaurantstore.com. I ordered sugar free davinci flavored Syrup to add to my Protein shakes(Its only $5-$6 per large bottle 750 ML. I got Chai, salted caramel, pumpkin pie, toasted marshmallow, and I also used Coconut milk instead of almond milk with chocolate protein for a "Mounds" flavored shake!! Like James said use this important time and take advantage of the weight loss phase. I can't wait!! I made an awesome PB&J shake with strawberry protein, PB2 dry Peanut Butter, and almond milk (I also add two stevia packets i like mine sweet) Hope this helps.

Chewing is a normal part of the digestive process. So many times after surgery when individuals report hunger, what they are really missing is chewing.
The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.
I found that protein shakes tasted terrible. You don't have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. I found that blending in a half a banana into my Protein Shake made it tolerable.
The weight loss phase is extremely short and then you will naturally transition into the maintenance phase. I transitioned at 7 months. So if you want to get the most out of this phase it is extremely important to follow the program guidelines.

Well I had the Lap Band back in 2010 and its been an uphill battle for me. It wasn't a great fit so I am having it removed on the 16th of this month, then my insurance requires a three month process. I have three classes, one nutrition class, and a physc appointment. But at least I have the date of November 13th. So I'm pretty excited! I just had spinal fusion on the 26th of June so I'm glad I'm going to have a couple months to fully heal.

Well I'm kinda a guru on hospital stays ( 2 spinal fusions, lap band) Bring your kindle, there are outlets behind your bed, but a power strip would be handy. They usually supply soap, Shampoo, all that stuff but you may not be able to shower right away. I brought pjs to wear, loose clothing. Flip flops since you wont want to bend. And a brush. Good luck on your surgery cant wait for mine....November here ugh.

i haven’t read the book so I can’t comment on it. I’ve been pretty much a vegan since before my GBS. I get blood work every six months and every time my test have been good. It’s been over three years since my surgery and I take no medication. I always take my Vitamins and administer a B-12 shot once a month. Best of luck in ya'll journey.

    Buh bye band, hello SIPS!
Arrived at hospital at 5am, surgery started at 715a... was up and walking by noon. Had my cat scan and swallow test by 3, discharged by 530p and home a little after 6....
I'm super nauseated and sore but dealing ok. Now laying down in bed. I don't like this weird pulling feeling in my tummy and I am having a heck of a time completely emptying my bladder (thanks to the catheter) but I'm managing.
BAND out SIPS DS in, one operation. I'm ready to get this journey on the road! Woohoo!!

No; my surgery is scheduled for the 28th of August. I have four more days of "farewell" meals before I start my pre-op diet . . . but I definitely need to get my Vitamins lined up. Appointment with my surgeon tomorrow afternoon!

I asked the nutritionist about them and was told not to use them. My paperwork has several suggestions for buying Vitamins online: twinlabs.com (which is not coming up on my browser, but Amazon has Twinlab vitamins), bariatricfusion.com, or celebratevitamins.com. The latter two have flavored mixes you can put in Water, which might be a lot easier than swallowing pills right after surgery.

My surgery is the 14th as well. I have been on the pre op diet since Aug. 1, I really started it earlier with just 2 shakes during the day and then dinner. Since the first I have been stricter with the dinner being lean meat and veggies. I had lost 12 pounds. I had pizza on friday as a reward but stuck to just shakes through the day and still lost 2 pounds as of this morning. That makes 14 total and still have 6 more days. I am also a self saboteur but I know I can do this because I am tired of being fat and relying on drugs to keep my BP on check. I have had 2 rectal polyps removed, have plantar fasciitis, sciatic in my back, am borderline diabetic, and have no energy to do anything. Enough is enough, will I screw up and make mistakes, you betcha but I will pick my self back up and start again. Am I scared, you betcha but I will be okay. I have 2 surgeries up my ass and came out ok, have had 2 kids all natural and survived. WE GOT THIS YOU GUYS!

The fist few days are rough!! I went through it with my Lap band, which I will be getting out on the 16th. I found the clear liquid was the worst. But I am so excited to go through this with the sleeve!! I feel blessed that my insurance will cover it. Tomorrow I go to the physc doctor. You ladies can do it!! It's hard at first but the end result will be so exciting!!

This is totally normal. Before my surgery, I was binging hard at every fast food place because I thought...f**k i'm not gonna be able to eat this stuff ever again...I gained a few lbs before surgery and felt like **** about myself. After the surgery, I cried to my boyfriend about feeling regret. I felt so depressed that him and my family got to eat whatever they wanted and I was on a liquid diet. Even now, I can't eat the things I used to and after a few bites...I'm already full. But you know what? I don't really regret this surgery anymore. We CANNOT let food dictate our whole life or be what we surround our lives around. We gotta find hobbies and things that effect us positively! I had this surgery because I hated myself. I was miserable. I developed social anxiety and had the lowest self esteem. I ruined my body. I was disgusted with myself everytime I saw a picture of msyelf or looked in the mirror before the shower. Why would you want to allow food to do this to you or want to allow it to continue to do this to you?
You need to build the will power now...preop so that it can help you have an easier journey post op. TRUST ME. I did not do that and maybe the liquid diet would have been easier for me post op.
I'm 3 weeks post op and still struggle and feel tempted to try certain things but I say NO because that's a slippery and scary slope that I do not want to get myself into again. I'd rather stay away from it then get that one taste that makes me lose control and I binge again or I stop caring.
I did this surgery for a reason. It has not been easy but I am sticking with it and hoping for the best outcome possible.
