Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
I love fries but never really ate them so that would be no loss for me but I do love cake and do have the occasional sweet tooth after a meal but HA now that I type that I suppose I wont be having a whole lot of meals in the next few months so takes care of that after dinner treat! I love my Premier shake sand just bought 3 cases of them so I hope I can get them down. Because I pretty much love all foods now I am fearful that I wont like much of anything post surgery. I wonder if this is a permanent thing? Will you ever love french fries again? hmmmmmI cant imagine a life without an Eruption Cake

Vitamin and B12 patches
Surgery is October 17 so I’m still pre-op but I bought a pill crusher to sprinkle into whatever I can get down. I was thinking more for pain meds but can I also crush vitamins?

Unquenchable Thirst!!
Can she (we) drink Pedialyte? Lots of electrolytes there.....

Anybody on the pre op liver shrinking diet???
I did the Bariatric Fusion liver reduction diet. I had a few roasted chick and broccoli cheat days mixed in. Lots of broth, jello and tropical popsicles, black coffee. I struggled some but after a few days I did fine, I think mind and body just got used to it. I think it’s a good idea to prepare ourselves mentally for what is to come.

Anyone ever drink Pedialyte?
I was in CVS yesterday and heard a few kids talking about how they use Pedialyte after drinking to help with hangovers!! So many mornings I wished I’d known about that! Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here has drank it in their early post op liquids stages. I would imagine it’s good for us with all those electrolytes. Any thoughts?

Hang in there, hopefully it’ll get better for you...gotta get that protein in!!!

End of the year Athem Approvals
I'm not sure the "meeting your deductible or Out of Pocket" expense is part of the actual approval process or its criteria. I started in May 2017 and had to go through the blood panels, exercise evaluation, colonoscopy, psych eval, several consults with a Nutritionist, and get a letter of recommendation from my PCP, two sleep studies for apnea and of course meeting with the surgeon several times. This actually took about six months. I did the sleep study early on because I knew I had severe apnea and needed to be on a BiPap machine for at least 30 days prior to being submitted for approval. On the 3rd and last pre op visit with the doc he told me to lose 10-15 pounds then sent me to his affiliated Nutritionist who set me up with a Keto diet. I failed that because although I was in ketosis many times, I still ate too many calories. I decided to go on the Bariatric Fusion website Liver Reduction Diet. It sucked but I ended up being OK with shakes and homemade chicken stock. I lost 13.5 pounds and at my next doc visit he submitted me to my insurance and I literally was approved within 72 hours. I am in California with Anthem Blue Cross. It's end of year and my OOP will happen to be less than $500. I know it's not what you want to hear but what I'm learning here is if you're self pay, almost anything goes. If you're insured (and their rules vary wildly) we have to be patient and abide by what they tell us to be approved. I've actually taken this time to "try" to reprogram my stubborn mindset into learning another way of thinking about food and my eating habits. This site is an amazing resource and I think the most important take away is that I need to realize my life will forever be changed the moment I come out of the recovery room and I truly need to be committed to a healthier lifestyle. I'm 53 and it's my time. Watch out [emoji8][emoji8][emoji8][emoji8]

3 weeks away
Hello all, October 17th here! Bags of mixed emotions but I can't wait to start this journey!!! Check this out- I had to work the past two Saturdays and so I took the liberty of printing out this lovely blogsters (is that even a word?) recipes and happenings Phase by Phase. I put it all in a lovely binder for later reference. (Please note that I worked from home for over two months with no reimbursement for paper or ink so HA no guilt here!!) She's amazing, funny, sassy and oh so yummy. The creator, I believe, of the now famous Ricotta Bake. She provides way more and much better information than my surgeons affiliated weight loss center does. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/?m=1

Full Fat Mayo, cottage cheese, and yogurt
Huh, I never did non/lol fat and I had a terrible gallbladder emergency, out it went. So the avocado thing- you mash it and mix it in tuna? No mayo? Interesting....crazy, I'm such a foodie and now I have to relearn a whole new way of eating!

Surgery at 56?
Ticker....I'm on my phone app right now and I don't see that here but if you're on the computer go to your profile settings where you add your stats and you should see the ticker section there...I kind of stumbled into it but it's there.

Can I puree anything and would it be acceptable?
I was thinking mainly for the pureed stage to supplement protein shakes but, yes, I did forget about our credo: Protein First. Thank you!!

Just want to say THANK YOU!!
Ah, yes, I have seen some of those posts and honestly, they're too painful for me! It's the encouragement and inspiration I come for. Take what I need, offer what I can and leave the rest....

Just want to say THANK YOU!!
Stuck at work second Saturday in a row and I'm gettin me some good B-Pal time in!! All I can say is WOW WOW WOW THANK YOU Your stats are blowing me away. You are all so amazing and I want to be a part of your losers club!! Your commitment and suggestions and gentle direction are exactly what I need to read to keep this thing going. My surgery is 10/17 and some days I'm smooth as silk and others I'm a freekin basket case and I can always find exactly what I need here to pick me up when the stress of it all gets me down. What a lifesaver this place is. Thank you and happy day

Can I puree anything and would it be acceptable?
I'm on Amazon looking for things to stock my pantry with & saw Progresso canned soups and wondered if I can take their Split Pea Soup or Italian Wedding Soup and whizz the crap out of it in my Vitamix and it be acceptable for pureed stage? I'm looking on this site for recipes and am having a hard time finding any without reading/scrolling five pages in....I know we're all well intended but the posts sometimes get off topic or bulked up with other things....thank you!

Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
icky! Drug reactions can be nasty at times. I vomited all over the place with the first shot of morphine in the ER for my gall bladder. It killed the terrible pain but I got so dizzy and sweaty and up it all came. Lightweight ! Surgery is Tuesday and my son can pick me up but he has to work the next day. He and his brother will be back on Thursday/Friday so it looks like Im on my own for a day or so....

Calling all October sleevers!!
My doc wanted me to lose 10 pounds and I followed Bariatric Fusion's Liver Reduction Diet. I printed out their pdf and hung several of them all over my house! Its 3-4 protein shakes (their Orange and Chocolate are tolerable- we have to remember it's a protein shake and not a meal! I made them with ice and non-fat milk = kinda milkshake-y ) and SF jello, SF pops (tropical flavor!!) and homemade broth, V8 and low sugar cranberry juice. I lost 13.5 pounds! I had a few cheat days with roasted chicken breast and steamed veggies but overall I got used to it. I whined a bunch, work was sometimes frustrating and the cravings got insane at times but I kept my eye on the prize and I did get used to it. I went in a few weeks later and he was very pleased with the loss. I got submitted, approved and scheduled within three days! You've come so far at this point. stay focused on what you want: slimmer happier healthier lighter (insert adjective here) and two weeks will fly by! Good luck to you!!

Your favorite clear meal recipe?
Thanks Jess- actually I meant recipes for broth mostly- I seemed to tolerate that really well when I had my gall bladder out (although I hear peoples tastes change after the surgery so who knows....)
