Soda!
I use to drink soda for days. I didn't drink it for 6 months at least after surgery and then I would let the carbonation dissipate in my mouth. Now, officially, a year out and I can drink soda no problem but maybe an oz or two of soda is very satisfying.

Questions on weight loss
I didn't lose anything for the first 3 weeks. However, a lot of that was because I developed pancreatitis. It was a letdown but it went away once I was released from the hospital.

Alcoholic Beverages
After being sleeved, I no longer drink. It still hurts too much to even try and it tastes worse now ??♀️

Protein?
I agree to focus on getting more protein than the other macros. With so limited space, protein is the most important nutrient. I wasn't getting a lot of it for a while and it can impact rate of healing, hair loss, and overall health. I am 7 months out and I am still drinking mostly shakes and my protein goal is about 100 grams of protein a day.

I am taking a multivitamin, b12 complex, and Iron with vitamin c. Should I be taking other vitamins?

Illness/ Being Sick
I haven't been sick since I was sleeved but now I've been sick going on 4 weeks now. It started out as allergies and then it went to severe cold/ flu and now it is laryngitis. I am wondering if this is normal post-op or if I just have some really crappy luck. Has this happened to anyone else?

carbonated drinks
I drink them every once in a while and I only drink maybe half a cup over a long period of time. I also let it flatten out in my mouth, which isn't great for teeth ??♀️. I would not suggest drinking it if it was a trigger in the past because of the potential calories and zero nutritional benefits it has.

Question for the ladies
Yes, your hormones change a lot when losing a lot of weight. My periods have actually become regular and now because of my changing hormones, I am having cramps I haven't had since I was really young. I agree I would notify your DR.

When does food not need to be chewed to complete mush?
I don't chew things to a mush anymore. However, eating too quickly and not realizing how much you ate is a problem and can be helped by chewing everything a lot and slowly. I've made this mistake a couple times but I just take breaks between bites. I ate a little too much and it was painful ( I can only eat 2 oz at a time).

How much can you eat?
I am 3 and a half months out. I usually have 3 premier protein shakes a day and I will go a few days without eating solid foods. I will have a slice or two of deli meat every once in a while or some fish.
-
How much can you eat?
I can only eat about 2 oz for most things besides dense/dry food which is more like 1 oz. I actually don't really like food anymore and primarily consume protein shakes. My nutritionist doesn't like how little I am able to eat and she actually encourages me to eat more which I find shocking. I am just happy to not be able to eat nearly the amount I was able to eat before.

How long does cramping last after surgery?
I was cramping all the time for about 2 weeks. It then went to cramping slightly during/after eating for another two weeks.

Hair loss
I have always naturally had thick hair but I have recently noticed my hair has become extremely thin. I used to break hair ties, now I use the little plastic black hair ties and can loop them three times and they don't break. I have a lot of hair falling out right now but I noticed that it is even and I also have hair coming back in because I have a lot of the little troll doll hairs ?. I have noticed it is different for everyone, some people don't experience loss. Be sure to take a lot of biotin. I take extra strength.

Sleeve and Hernia repair
You were so lucky! I begged my surgeon for nausea patches.... I couldn't sleep more than an hour at a time because I pet getting sick. What staples do you need removed? I didn't know they used staples besides for the pouch.

Sleeve and Hernia repair
I had the sleeve and hernia repair. I remember I was very nauseous and vomited a lot, which is not good and my surgeon said it would push the hernia back through my diaphragm. My surgeon said it would be even more difficult to get in fluids because of the extra swelling. There was some discomfort but only when eating/drinking. I still had a little bit of gerd for a while after surgery but now it is gone. I had no actual pain from the surgery but everyone is different.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST PROTEIN TO TAKE?
I have gone through about 10 different protein drinks because most of them taste and smell like spoiled milk. Just recently I found the GNC lean shakes that are 170 calories and 25 g protein for their pre-made shakes. I liked that it was in the right ratio of calories and protein and its is also packed with vitamins. Quest protein powders are good too but they're really thick for me and they're harder to drink. I would get a lot of samples from different brands so you don't end up wasting money on something you don't end up liking.

Extra skin?
It depends, I am almost halfway to my goal weight and I can tell there won't be any loose skin. However, I am taking measures to help. I use the Jergens tightening lotion, drink way more water than recommended, don't tan (Salon or outside) and I weight lift. There are a few factors that will determine excess skin, your starting weight, and your age. I also take collagen supplements.

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
I was shocked. When they had me take the Pilori test, the liquid they had me take tasted like sprite ? I was hoping for a similar situation.

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
The leak test was the WORST/most embarrassing experience of my entire life. My body did not like the liquid and this is TMI but I cried, puked, collapsed and other embarrassing stuff that I try to tune out. I will probably never forget that experience and I feel really bad for the x-ray techs. I went back to my room and cried and tried to forget that it had happened. I was still completely drugged by the anesthesia at this time as well but I distinctly remember this.

So what does everyone eat?
I tried bread and it made incredibly sick and I am okay with crackers and tortillas. I could feel the bread trying to come back up, I only ate one slice but it made me sick for hours. My list tells me I can have a lot that I know I wouldn't be able to eat. My NUT said I can eat half an english muffin and two eggs now and I know for a fact that isn't possible. Just go off of what you feel you can or can't do.

How soon were you able to drive?
Did anyone drive with a pillow after surgery?
-
How soon were you able to drive?
That is odd they would allow drive home yourself. I was drugged for like 2 days from the anesthesia. I even had to get a ride home from my outpatient endoscopy, good thing nothing happened. I do also say this knowing the Houston traffic.

So what does everyone eat?
I make a turkey chili and I eat it a lot. I also eat a lot of shrimp. I don't eat a lot of vegetables right now because I still can't get in all of my protein because I despise protein shakes. I eat almost all protein also because I can't get in any more than maybe 2 oz per meal which doesn't help. I also eat high protein jerky sticks and protein bars. There are so many things I am unable to eat now that I eat a lot of the same foods.
