In Chicago, Lou Malnati's makes a "low carb" version of its deep dish pizza that skips the crust and has sausage as its bottom. It's fatty as all hell still, but it doesn't have much carbs at all. A few months down the road, when I can eat different stuff (I'm only starting purees tomorrow) I intend to order the smallest possible one and eat a single piece for a meal.

So it's not exactly the same as pizza but Ricotta Bake filled my pizza craving when I was on pureed and even after before I took the plunge and tried pizza again. You could melt some shredded cheese on top and even add pepperoni or turkey sausage when you are further out and allowed meats.
Around 12 weeks post op I tried thin crust pizza and had no issues digesting it. I now eat pizza about twice a month but can only eat 1 slice without the crust. It's my treat when I have it and I take into account when I'm planning my other meals of the day.

Yes pizza is loved lol. But i dont forsee me trying any for a very long time-possibly never again-well at least not in the standard form. I just keep telling myself i had surgery for a reason and pizza is one of them! Le sigh-plan to leave all those bad habits behind.

You are certainly correct on that because the temp changes do affect me as it is. I would not want to fall asleep at the wheel either.
I guess it is will be wait and see - I cant even imagine taking off 6 weeks but if it came down to that then it is what it is. Hopefully not. I could potentially do three weeks of paperwork - no lie. lol

Thank you everyone for your response to my question. I was rather worried but my mind is at ease now. I try not to worry cause that wont change things but that was really bothering me! Very happy to have a place to come and ask questions of those more experienced than myself.

I had mine on 8/28 and I've had no trouble getting fluids in. I'm assuming the reality will be far different when actual food is involved--but won't even have a Protein Shake until four days out.

You're ok. I was the same way. Once you eat you'll feel much more restriction. liquids were so easy for me right from the start. Sounds like your healing well. Don't be nervous if you can help it. It really hasn't ended up being an issue for me at all.

Liquids don't challenge the sleeve or initiate a sense of fullness or restriction. They pass through the stomach into the small intestine rapidly. This is normal.
You'll be stuffed to oblivion if you attempted to eat 4 ounces of steak or chicken breast. Only lean Proteins and non-starchy veggies challenge the sleeve enough to provide restriction.
Even junk food (e.g. donuts, chips) passes through without any restriction kicking in, so these foods are referred to as "sliders" because they slide right through the stomach.

Some people have an issue with fluids ( like myself still struggling 8 weeks out) and some do not ( like your self) and I would honestly call it a blessing to not struggle. When you move onto dense Protein you will feel the restriction Do not worry.

Fluids goes straight though. After surgery, you probably had to do a leak test. If you paid attention, you could see the fluids pass quickly through the stomach. And as long as you sip sip ( later larger amount at once won't be a problem) there should be no reason it shouldn't pass through quickly.

I'm almost two years out and I can only drink several ounces at a time, I'm sure you're just fine. We are all different, but the road we all travel has the same outcome; Success!

Thanks for asking, because I was actually worried about the same thing! From what quite a few folks have said and videos that I had watched I was expecting barely to be able to drink anything. As you know there is less than a week left before both of us can transition to the next phase but I was extremely worried that my pouch was too big. I was able to kill a full cup of Water in less than the hour and without any problems, I am just glad that I am not alone in my thinking. And thank everyone that answered, as this was actually something I was going to talk to my Dr about when I got to my 2 week post op appointment!

For starters it doesn't matter how much of your stomach they took. Research says the size of the stomach is not a determinant of weight loss success. it is eating habits and the metabolic reset the surgery gives you. I am an RNY my pouch is twice the size of a normal post op pouch because I was a revision from a band and they had to work around the band damage. Check out my stats.
You are on fluids so at this point you don't know how restricted you may be because fluids go right through...they don't hang out. it is why all the bariatric programs in my province no longer have a wait before meals to drink policy. Just after.
Once you are on solids you will see your restriction level, but you won't be able to count on it. over time you will be able to eat more...that is how it works. the surgery buys you a year or two to develop good eating habits and lose while you still have full restriction.
I suggest you go to youtube and look up dr. Matthew Weiner's videos. THey are very informative on the realities of post op life...there is one on pouch stretching that is interesting.

I agree with what other have said. Liquids are easy. I can drink I cup of tea or coffee with no issues. I usually sip it for 20-30 minutes and it's fine. I noticed you said you can drink it in less than an hour. If you tried to gulp it down at once it would probably come back up, but you're giving it time to move through your stomach to the intestine. I am four weeks out from surgery and am so happy I can drink!!! Eating is different, but I'm still on soft foods so I have a lot to learn. When I start full solids I'm sure it'll all be different again.

So my surgery was on 8/21. I am doing well physically-currently on full fluids. My concern is that i am able to drink a full cup of lets say tea within less than an hour-with out having any issue. Is that customary of this surgery. Im worried that my surgeon didnt take out enough. seems everyone else can barely take on 4oz's. I know we are all different so I cant really compare but in generalizing what i have read here its seems to be the norm. Im hoping I am also not doing anything wrong??
