I started this journey 5/9/17 after years of denial. This year I made the realistic decision to walk in the Dr. Office asking for help with now a possible death sentence. After the traumatic fire lost after a new marriage, I realized that I could have dead in the fire. I am expecting a longer healthy life. My son got married this year and couldn't imagine not being able to enjoy my grandkids. I'm excited about my NEW BEGINNING!

My Dr. Office scheduled my surgery before approval so I am not on pre op diet. My clearance came to my husband phone while in the chest xray 🙇 what is the required days of pre op diet?
    Greetings to ALL!

Have you tried throwing the Protein Powder, some fruit and ice in a blender? I have rarely drunk the shakes straight up. One of my faves is taking a cup of cold coffee, a caramel shake packet, Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup (like from a coffee shop - I use the Torani brand) and some ice. Into the blender and I've got a 24 gram of Protein Shake. I still drink this to this day.
Another version I like is Fairlife Skim Milk (13 grams of Protein in one cup), a scoop of chocolate protein powder, one tablespoon of PB2 powder and a few pumps of sugar free caramel syrup. Say hello to your snickers protein shake with about 35 grams of protein. (Oh yeah - ice and blender.)
You need to get the shakes in at this point otherwise you aren't going to get your protein you need to heal your body. Keep experimenting.

    Hey everyone,
I just had my sleeve almost 2 weeks ago. My doctor had me do a 10 day pre op diet that consisted of Protein Shake or Protein Bar for Breakfast and lunch then, dinner 3oz of meat and some veggies for dinner. I ended up drinking a ton of Protein Shakes and Soups. Post op, I am struggling to get through with my full liquids diet. I tried different brands but the smell makes me gag, I am so over it. I am eating soups, fat free yogurts, Water, Powerade zeros and I find that i'm getting tired of that. I am getting frustrated with the process because now, I find myself feeling hungry when I wasn't feeling hungry right after surgery until about this past Monday or Tuesday. Yesterday, I didn't eat just drank fluids all day. Being frustrated, I've thought about buying foods I'm not suppose JUST to satisfy that hunger and, get the Protein and minerals that I need. My question is: How do I ignore my cravings while at the same time, satisfying my food intake?

The pain sounds like gas pain. If so walking the hallways will do you a lot of good.

    Hernia repairs are MUCH worse than the surgery. You can expect to have abdominal pain for a few weeks But, at the moment, that does sound like gas, and the more you can get up and move, the better off you will be. You will need to be extra vigilant about not bending over too far or lifting weight... but regular walking will do you good. You get to be a delicate flower for a while! {Hugs}

No idea that the hernia was this painful. Its one incision towards the top of my stomach really killing me other than that I am fine! Happy healing everyone💖

Weirdly, I'm experiencing something similar even though I'm married - basically realizing how much of our conversations and activities have revolved around food! However, when I go out with friends it's often coffee (herbal tea for me at this point since I'm on the pre-op liquid diet), or a walk, or the beach - again, because the conversation is the important part. I agree with the above, try a non-food based activity at first. Best wishes to you!

I noticed how it feels the best when I get up for long periods of time and actually walk around, it even felt good to do the five dishes in the sink! Although my husband wasn't happy I did them while he took the boys to the skate park so I could get some "rest".

By day 4 and on, I have felt so much better. And Eating and drinking isn't so miserable for me anymore! Feel better

Your emotional response is not surprising given the pain you are in. Also, we were warned that it is common for people to have a short bout of "buyers remorse" after the surgery due to a hormone released by the body.
Are you able to tell whether the pain is due to gas from the laparoscopy or from the incisions? If it is gas, walking or at least changing positions and stretching your body in different directions helps. If it is from the incisions, I would contact the doctor. The inside pains from the surgery and staples is generally much better by 24 hours after the surgery which is why they send you home. If your pain is not controlled then you should be in the hospital until they are able to control it

Hang in there! I had my surgery done on the 17th and as soon as I woke up aftee the procedure i was regretting it. The pain and nausea was so bad that I couldn't sleep for the first few days and was held in the hospital an extra day. I'm on day 4 and things aren't 100% but SO much better. Walking has really helped ease the pain and gas-x strips have been a life saver. Even at 4 days i'm not getting enough liquid but was able to drink almost 16oz of Water, 2oz of Protein, and a whole 3oz cup of sugar free Jello. Each day gets a little bit better. Feel free to msg me if you need someone to talk to.

Day 2 is definitely the worst. I was terrified of drinking anything because everything nauseated me and I really didn't want to throw up.

Day 3 will feel much better than 2. By the end of the day, I started to feel ok taking sips without dreading the about to throw up feeling. I also went home around noon and took several naps.

I'm on day 4 and feeling soooo much better. It's a world of difference.

At this point, I'm still not drinking enough, but I got my Protein in.

The toughest part now is the incisions...well, just the big one really. It's quite tender. Ok, let's be real...it sometimes feels like it's ripping open when I try to move or get up. I'm being a baby about it and taking the pain meds when it's bad. Why be stoic about it when that's what they gave them for?

I'd take that pain without any meds over day 2's nausea though so hang in there. It will get better.

So sorry your having a rough time. First few days were rough for me. Glad they kept me in the hospital for 3 days. I stayed on pretty heavy pain meds those first few days pretty steady. I'm surprised they send people home so fast. A few days out it gets better.

Day 5 of high Protein liquid diet. 9 days to go, then surgery. I miss solid food. Even a salad. A bit of fish. Anything! Very much trying to focus on the fact that this is temporary. I will chew again some day.
