  1. Hi Bugg. What you are feeling is totally normal. I had similar or kind of similar fears. I was sleeved in 2017. Best decision ever. I lost 40kgs and have maintained with variations of about 5kgs on and off. I had no health complications and feel so healthy. I still drink water in 2-3 swallows only then rest. It is not a big deal and I am used to it now. With the total weight loss, most people lose the most weight in the initial aftermath and you will likely gain some of it back. I maximized the most weight loss I could experience in the initial phase. Last but not least, remember you don’t anyone an explanation about your private health information. People don’t go around explaining their blood pressure, asthma, yeast infection treatments etc. That applies to your bariatric treatment. You share what you fell like sharing with whoever you want to share with. It’s your private health information. Good luck with your treatment.
  2. I was sleeved 7 years ago. I have no regrets. I have maintained well. My lowest eight was 68kg. I am currently 71kg. I have no GERD. Zero complications. The only dumping I did was dumping people who judge people who choose gastric surgery.
  3. 18 months post op and over 80lbs lost. Only my husband knows to this day. My body, my choice. I don't discuss my dental surgery, hysterectomy, or any other illness with anybody. I had been obese for most of my adult life and having one more meaningless, hurtful or back-handed advice/opinion ( if I had disclosed my surgery) was the last thing I wanted. When people ask how I did it, I tell them "...lifestyle changes" which is true. I am a private person so I shut the conversation right there. I don't regret keeping it to myself. I know and understand that sharing might help de-stigmatize weight loss surgery. I chose not to bear that burden (for lack of a better word).
  4. Completely normal feelings Kygirl. I am 18 months out and remember worrying about small things.....different from yours but still worried. I have now lost 88lbs and feel amazing. It will be worth it.
  5. I kept it to myself. Sleeved July last year. Only my husband knows. I worked with a woman who had a sleeve done and my coworkers judged and talked about this woman in such a negative way. There were comments like, " I would never mutilate my body for a bit of vanity." I just decided I don't want the burden of educating these women about WLS. I am my priority and I am so happy I made this decision. When people ask me how I list weight I tell them I made drastic changes about my health which is true.
  6. I watched my 600lbs life too! Obsessively. One year post op and I don't watch tv that much. I have basic cable now just to catch up on local new here and there. Otherwise I am walking during my spare time and letting our youngest daughter tell me what she wants to do with me.
  7. I am obese and had a BMI of 41 with no diagnosed health issues at the time of my surgery. I got sleeved July 28, 2017 because I knew it was a matter of time before I got diagnosed with serious health issues. As a clinician myself, I knew what was waiting for me healthwise. Your parents are voicing their opinion from a place of concern and I can understand their fears. However, you have to consider your personal circumstances in making this decision. With regards to that dietician's opinion, that is just that, an opinion. Does she have data to support her claims? Sit down with a bariatric surgeon to get more information and make a medically informed decision. Hope all goes well for you.
