Getting a separate fridge is a great idea.
I hear you about having food around. I went to natural grocers today to get some healthy Snacks because I just want to graze! I'm realizing how much of my eating is boredom and stress.
I'm only 8 weeks out and I know I can't let myself go down the slippery slope.

My family includes my hubby, who weighs 126 and NEEDS to eat right now. Anything he can. My mom, who is a junk food queen, and my hubby's cousin, who is a vegan who Snacks all the time! I'm buying a refrigerator for my office so I can avoid the one in the kitchen, I decided while on the treadmill. I'm working on this! I am.

I was also amazed at how easy the surgery was! I've had 4 c sections and my gall bladder out and this was by far the easiest of those surgeries. I just kept saying - I can't believe how easy this was. The hard part now is getting my fluids, Proteins and Vitamins in every day and tracking every bite. The hardest thing is not drinking when I eat and keeping it separated by 30 min on each side- I don't think I'll ever get used to that!

~stay off the scale the first month
~all Protein is not created equal. Eat real food over shakes and bars when possible
    ~don't compare yourself to anyone
~if you haven't dealt with your food issues before surgery you'll be faced with them after whether you want to deal with it or not.
    ~move your body
~I am no different than I was the day before surgery in most ways (which is ok cuz I like me).
~no magic or cure-this is for life and without making the changes I need to nothing will change long term.
~I have no regretted this surgery once, I haven't always enjoyed how I felt, but zero regrets (and zero complications)
~this is a wonderful opportunity that I feel grateful for.
This is just my list in two short months. I'm sure I'm missing lots of things. What have others learned?

I totally get it. It's crazy how our culture is so food centric. I say find new activities to do with friends and family. I know you said you don't like the outdoors and such but there are other things to do than just physical activity. When I was so soon out of surgery I didn't do anything physically active.

If your friends and family are supportive of this journey of yours (which I hope they are) they will respect the fact that right now (especially when you are still on liquid diet) your hang outs need to be without food.

It will get much much easier once you can eat regular food again. When you can you will enjoy cooking again and you will just cook things that are healthier but still delicious. My friends LOVE when I cook and are ALWAYS amazed that it is low calorie. Good for you food doesn't have to mean boring.

For now though, think about things you can do together that would still be fun.

For me that was things like game nights, paint nights, going to a place like dave and busters and playing games, this soon out from surgery you can't go bowling but thats an option down the line, miniature golf is also fun. Doing an activity doesn't always have to mean hiking or canoeing or something. If you like music what about going out for karaoke with friends.

The hardest part of this journey is right now, while you are on a liquid diet. It will get much easier. I promise.

    Hang in there!

I am 7 weeks post op and for the past 2 weeks I haven't dropped a single lb. I lost 55 the first 5 weeks. But this morning I weighed and I was 5 lbs down. I could tell by looking in the mirror and the way my clothes fit I was losing but it didn't reflect on the scale. I'm so happy to see a lower number. Was starting to get discouraged.

@OutsideMatchInside I'm glad you found success. For me I need to know my boundaries. Not just with food, but with so much of life. So I unapologetically do so. And I am stubborn enough (to the point of getting in a knife fight with my surgeon) to loose this weight. So I'm not worried.
Not that you need to know my story, but my wife and I are wanting to start a family and this is for her and the future niños. So my motivation is clear.

Ditto. I had read a book about, oh, 11 years ago that talked about how wonderful organic whole foods were. MSG was the devil, etc.
So I went to the grocery store and didn't know where to start. I was afraid of everything, and when I left the store I had 3 small bags of food and had spent $50 (which was a lot in those days). I get home, and there is nothing to eat! All those single ingredients, and I didn't know how to make a meal of them. Went to McDonalds for dinner.
Surgery has truly given me a reset. Since I'm not starving, I can take my time and think about what is a good thing to eat, look up a recipe, try things out. Before, I just needed to fill my belly as quickly as possible, the hunger overrode any other thought processes.

Missy161 reacted to Introversion in Why can't we keep it off naturally?
You probably need surgery because, although anyone can lose weight without a surgical procedure, it's doubtful you'll ever keep it off for the long term. I'm just being honest here.
Those of us who were once obese have permanently altered biochemistries. In other words, once a person has become badly overweight, his/her body will fight like hell to defend the higher set point if/when weight loss through old-fashioned diet and exercise occurs.
Weight loss surgery is the only durable method that reduces an obese person's weight set point. Once we undergo a bariatric procedure, the body now fights to lose enough weight to get to a lower set point due to favorable neurohormonal alterations.

By the way, I've lost 200+ pounds over the past 2+ decades before having weight loss surgery (lose 30, regain 50, lose 60, regain 90, rinse and repeat) and I'm only in my mid 30s.
I could lose weight just fine prior to surgery, but couldn't keep it off. I was sleeved 2.5 years ago and this is the most weight-stable I've been in my entire life since puberty.

That's not bad, but can you find some places to slip in some more Protein? The protein and the extra calories it brings may bring your energy level up a bit. What are you drinking on the way to work? Make it a Protein Shake or add some Protein Powder to your coffee/tea/water. Add some powder to your yogurt, drink a glass of Fairlife milk in the afternoon...whatever you can. Nibble on a Protein Bar during the day. It's very hard in the first few months to get the nutrition you need without supplementing, in my experience. And I STILL, over a year later, add a 30g scoop of protein to my coffee every single morning. It's like insurance for the rest of the day for me.

The average US female is 5'4".
The average US female weighs 166.2lbs
The average US female consumes 2.5 servings of alcohol a day
The average US female sleeps 6 hours & 41 minutes a day.
The average US female wears a size 16.
The problem with averages is that they are so homogenized that they can no longer be applicable to the individual. Unless you meet all the average statistics spelled out prior to surgery, there is very little chance the average weight loss will be applicable to you as well. Weight loss is strictly a matter of diet. Fitness comes from exercise.
So even if you are not able to work out like some, you will still lose the weight if you stick to the plan provided by your surgeon. Testing your limits or tolerances or experimenting with food and/or alcohol will hamper your progress and could lead to bad habits forming.
Relax, stay the course, and remain vigilant!

It's definitely not a "never" thing for sleeve patients, but it is much less likely to occur in someone who's had a VSG than someone who's had a bypass. I'm sorry it's happening to you!
Also, I have reactive hypoglycemia and it feels VERY much like dumping but I've had it for years...happens when I eat simple carbs.
