The directions which I received from my surgeon's office for gastric sleeve patients read:
3 Flintstone complete chewable multivitamins daily.
1200 to 1500 mg calcium citrate daily.
    500 to 1000 micrograms sublingual B12 weekly.
100 mg. Thiamine (Vitamin B1) weekly.
Probiotic daily recommended but not required.
These requirements were listed on the Discharge Instructions when I left the hospital.
Vitamin chemistry is important for absorption. Calcium supplements should be calcium citrate. There are also different chemistries of B12. I use the sublingual B12 and was told to use methylcobalamin. You cannot use a time-release version of B12. If you are taking Iron supplements, it must be ferrous sulfate for the best absorption. gummy vitamins are not absorbed properly and should be avoided.
Some patients are also required to take iron supplements. Other types of surgeries have very different vitamin requirements.

Like Kim said, it may be based on your pre surgery labs. I was already Iron deficient...so along with the iron and vit c I was also put on 2 multivitamins a day Vit D/ Calcium combo twice a day.

Normally your surgeon will recommend a regimen based upon your procedure.
It was recommended by my surgeon that I take two Multivitamins a day, an Iron with Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B 12, vitamin b, and Calcium.
I was already B12 and vitamin d deficient so those were not new.
You can take an iron pill with vitamin C called Vitron C if needed.
I had a bypass. Requirements may vary slightly based on surgery and surgeon type and lab work ups.

proccess is much easier when you have someone who's going through the same thing. :))

Hi. Congratulations on submitting your last bit of paperwork and getting your surgery date. It's likely with your BMI that you'll be approved. I remember how nervous I was waiting for my approval and my BMI was in the 50s. I'll keep you in prayer.

Did they tell you why it wasn't allowed? Premier Protein is the go-to at my group for pre-surgical diet. We were given about a dozen choices.

If you are restricted to those two choices, try them both and see which one you like better. If you like both, use both. I've tried Muscle Milk and prefer the chocolate to other flavors--but overall, I prefer Premier to other shakes I've tried.

Pre-surgery I was only doing Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes and Water. 2 week pre-op, I was allowed 1 "green" meal a day. Lean Proteins and veggies, no carb and 3 shakes a day. The final week before surgery was 5 shakes a day and water - that is it.

Don't think it really matters which Protein Drink you use so long as its a low/no carb one. Sticking to the liver reduction diet is the key. The weeks before surgery were torture -- I've never been so hungry in my life. I felt a sense of accomplishment though -- I lost 24 pound on the pre-op diet and my surgeon said my liver wasn't fatty at all.

I stuck to my pre-op like a champ as well, and was fortunate that I did not have any major hunger problems. I forgot that first week I also had the Bariatric Advantage Snacks twice a day. The driving reason for me to be such a stickler was something that my surgeon said. He told me that if I did not reduce my liver enough, they would not be able to get my gall bladder until about 6 months later. He said it very likely could be a painful few months as my gall bladder would shrink and the tiny stones grind, etc. I wanted no part of a second surgery, I wanted to be one and done! That was enough motivation for me to not cheat it at all. I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks pre-surgery.

I’ve made it to almost the end Of day 10/14 and haven’t cheated or killed anyone! If I can do it, anyone can! You will be most surprised by little things - like my son finished some food and gave what was left to me to throw out. Normally I would have eaten it but this is training me to rethink all those bites.
