I brought my own Bari Bear only he was a moose from the same manufacturer as the bear. One nurse scoffed at me and said I'd been 'had' - that a pillow worked just as well. She was wrong! Mort the Moose was so much firmer and provided so much more support that I never dreaded an oncoming cough. Don't need him anymore but he's front and center on the guest room bed now.
Well worth the $$ if you can.

Down to 157 after a looooong stall and am still happy with the process. Having rotator cuff and bicep tendon repair in a few days and am anxious to see how I manage to maintain weight loss through the long recovery.
    Fingers crossed!

I'm 53 and am 6+ years out from breast cancer. I'm right at 40BMI at my present weight (232lbs). The doc says I will drop down closer to 35BMI as surgery and the liquid diet become reality. What we're not told is that the treatment (chemo and the prednisone that goes with it) can make us gain 20lbs. Then the hormone therapy which many of us can take for 10 years, blocks either hormone receptors or conversion of androgens to estrogen/progesterone and that means we may/usually gain another 20-40lbs. Oy!
But, we truly are the lucky ones as survivors! So many of my friends are now gone (who were treated at the same time as me). Looking forward to joining you on the losers' bench!

Would love to hear from others whose BMI is less than 40 or who started at BMI of 35 or less.
Unlike many, I have not been morbidly obese for my entire life. Yes, I know I'm lucky. After successful treatment for 2 cancers - both still in remission after 8 and 9 years, then an appendectomy in 2012, found my weight constantly moving upward from 141 (BMI 25) to 200 (BMI 35). The last 18 months my weight zoomed from 184 to 200 while I was working on medical weight loss with my doctors.
I have high cholesterol and GERDS so when I hit 35 BMI my doctor suggested RNY. The surgery was August 2 2017, so just a week out. My stretch goal is 130; my stable, long term goal is 140. I was at 189 after my pre op diet so I only have 59 lbs to lose. That sounds like so little compared to the legions of others who have a much larger hurdle to jump. I'm 67. If this were 10 years ago I'd have waited on the surgery and tried other things (not sure what though), but I do not want to be a fat, sick old lady. Delaying surgery wasn't an option for me.
Would love to hear from others in similar situations.

Two weeks out from surgery and I couldn't be happier. Drinking is easy now but today is first day for solid Protein so we'll see how it goes as far as liquids go. Goal is 80 oz liquid, 65 protein!
HW 200 SW 193 CW 180!! Goal 130/140 (My goal is 130; Dr. goal is 140 5'3" Age = 67 If I had any advice it would be to take pain pills when needed. I think taking them lowers the stress this puts on our bodies, but then, I am an engineer/banker so follow your Dr's advice, not mine!

    Heres my 2 cents:
    1. Dont get gummies. They're not very well absorbed and thus you aren't going to get ur required nutrients from them.
    2. While it may seem to be pricey buying the Bariatric Advantage brand, u only need their Multi chew and their calcium chews if u go that route. And a B12 sublingual from any brand. If u go the non Bariatric Advantage route, u gotta worry about buying bottle after bottle after bottle of different Vitamins and minerals to satisfy ur requirements. Add all those different bottles up, who knows how much total ur spending. ALL your Vitamin and mineral requirements are in the Bariatric Advantage Multi chew and Calcium chew. I have 1 bottle/1 package: I take 2 multis a day from the bottle and 3 calciums a day from the bag. Thays it. And the b12 sublingual once/week.
Just found it a lot easier and less stressful to go the B.A route than to worry about all that other stuff. We have enough to worry about, especially the first few months, without adding all the stress of which vitamin and which store and when its on sale and etc. Maybe after the first few months when ur feeling more secure with how to eat and live then u could venture out and piecemeal ur vitamin requirements together, but right now, I'd go the BA route.
Ps. I have nothing financially to do with BA. Just my personal opinion and what i found helped me tremendously, at least so soon after this life changing event. I'm 1 mo postop. Good luck with whatever u choose.

I went on a 2,500 mile road trip 4 weeks out that included a day at the MN State Fair with a 2 energetic 9 year olds and 2 12 year olds. I'm 67 and quite active but I will admit it was tiring. In anticipation I rented a motorized scooter for the day that my husband and I shared. I took a Protein Drink and Water with me and the day could not have been more perfect. Have a great time!

Bloating soon after surgery is completely normal. You're swollen and still working out the IV fluids they pump you up with in hospital. Try to walk as much as possible, follow your surgeon's orders for food, and as counterintuitive as it seems, drink lots of Water. Everyone's plan is different, but I'd say if your doctor wants you on only cooked pureed foods, do that. Right after surgery when everything is healing is not the time to fudge the limits of your pouch.
20lbs in this little time is amazing. You're doing great. The first few weeks are frustrating, but stick it out and it gets better and better.

If you can sip down 1 cup of Water in about 20 min without any issues at all, then I would say all is good. Just follow your recommended daily Fluid requirements. My surgeon recommended 65-80 ounces per day.

Completely normal to gain weight right after surgery. It's fluids they pump you full of in the hospital as well as, you just had major surgery. Stay away from the scale for a few weeks to let your body settle.

Find a lined notebook, or leather bound journal you like, a pen or pencil you enjoy writing with - and just write. Each day I record my feelings, discoveries, ups and downs. It takes no for except the day and date at the top of the page. Mine is not so much about weight or food, but about me and how I'm handling the changes in my life.
Grab pen and paper and just write!
