  1. I was very fortunate to have two insurances when I started my journey. My primary required 6 months of "nutrition counseling" which consisted of a monthly call in to a nutritionist to discuss my diet history, habits, and plans for after surgery. I ended up only having two months of this as I lost my primary insurance when I retired. My husband's insurance did not have that same requirement, however, my surgeon's office has quite a rigorous program. I had several preop visits with my surgeon, three required nutritionist visits, and received detailed postop instructions including diet phases. Postoperatively, I had a one week, two week, one month, and six months visits. I also have monthly calls from a bariatric nurse which is required by my current insurance. It is very helpful to talk with her as she has also gone through this process. I have had fast food once since my surgery and could only eat part of the burger patty. Bread seems to fill me up fast so I don't eat much. I used to be a Diet Coke fiend and haven't had this since surgery. I seem to have list my taste/cravings for fast food. I'm seven months out and continue to follow my program. I faithfully log all my food & water intake and I journal daily. I'm not perfect and have had some instances where I've eaten too much which makes me SO uncomfortable! But all in all I'm happy with my progress. Body measurements

I use an app called Bariastic. It's a wonderful app that allows recording of lots of indicators. (Great for data nerds like me!) [emoji12] It can even connect with your program if your program has linked to the app. Sadly, mine has not but I talk up the app every time I'm in the office. One can record measurements, weight, water, and food. It keeps track of your post-op days and gives a daily affirmation. There's a journal section also where a photo can be added to each journal entry; I add a selfie of my face to my daily journal. I weigh and measure weekly. Measurements are really helpful for me when I feel like I haven't lost "enough" weight each week. I've lost a total of 49 inches so far. Sic erat scriptum. Latin for "thus was it written." It's used when quoting exactly what another wrote including the misspell, or mis-used word(s). Surgery - RNY GBP Surgery Date - 5/16/2017 HW - 368 SW - 352 GW - 150 Sent from my Note Edge

    I'm 60 +

I am trying to curb my carbs. I do think a lot of it is a product of my weight and having a sedentary job for so long. When I was a floor nurse and running around so much, I did not have leg edema. Now that I've retired, I'm working out more and trying to sit less. I'm 60 +

I'm 64 and had surgery on 5/16/2017. I had my 6 month checkup with my surgeon yesterday. I've lost 70 lbs so far but he was of the opinion I should have lost 10-15 more. I do have a fair amount of edema (swelling) in my lower legs and feet. He allowed that I could be hiding 15 lbs there. He also said I probably have a very "efficient" metabolism. Sigh... I'm not unhappy with my progress. I'm working out and have SO much more energy than before. Hubby likes it! Intermittent Fasting

I realized I have unintentionally been "fasting" daily. I'm generally eating between 1400 - 2200. I'm a night bird so I go to bed late and get up late. I like to exercise right after I get up (otherwise it doesn't happen!) and don't like to eat before I do so. That makes my first meal sometime after 2 PM. I'm not much of a morning eater (hey, it's morning SOMEWHERE, right?), I usually have a protein shake. I then drink protein water diluted by half with water until we have dinner about 7 or 8 PM. That's when I have my solid foods. I'm losing weight, my labs look good, and I don't have too much loose skin. I really appreciate all the research and discussion posted in this thread. Intermittent Fasting

Perhaps you can just agree to disagree. It appears you are more interested in being "right" than in having a respectful discussion. I worked in healthcare for 40 years, have multiple advanced degrees, and taught at major universities. Yet, it seems I still have more to learn. I enjoy reading and participating in discussions like these because they don't always conform to preconceived ideas. I'm so sorry! Please call your surgeon's office right away. They will be your best advocate. You might also call the psych who evaluated you. Perhaps that person can contact your insurance and advocate for you. Best of luck. Hugs! Surgery - RNY GBP Surgery Date - 5/16/2017 HW - 368 SW - 352 GW - 150 Sent from my Note Edge

Always seeing myself the same fat girl

65 lbs at 10 weeks?!?! That's AMAZING! I'm at 65 lbs lost but I'm at 22 weeks. I think I'm doing great. Of course, I wish I have lost more, but that weight didn't go on in one day. I'm pretty happy with my progress. I only weigh and measure once a week. I have weeks when I haven't lost, but my measurements are down; I've lost a total of 46 inches. Be kind to yourself, celebrate your wins, and remember the scale is not always your friend! Distance yourself from the negative people and evict that whispering voice in your head that tells you you're not good enough. Believe the compliments because they are true! They approved in less than 30 days after my surgeon's office sent in the request. I don't remember exactly how long it was, but I do remember thinking it was pretty quick. Surgery - RNY GBP Surgery Date - 5/16/2017 HW - 368 SW - 352 GW - 150 Sent from my Note Edge

    Can’t stop crying

AMEN! I think every woman is a member of the #METOO movement. I'm so sorry you went through 21 years of abuse! I spent 4 years in my abusive relationship and even almost married him. I finally saw the light and got out after he nearly choked me to death. Hugs for you! Stay strong! You're a brave woman!
