Ok, first off, there is no such thing as "normal" with the bypass, everyone's surgery is different in some aspects. Even surgeries done by the same team, are going to have variations. AND everyone heals differently.

So, don't stress about "normal", worry about your requirements. I could down a full cup of food before 2 months was out, just make sure you are making good choices, do not drink for 30 mins after eating, I don't follow the before typically, but the after part is important to making sure you stay full and don't just flush everything through. And DO NOT eat and drink at the same time for the same reason.

Those cravings sound mental... find something that tastes good that's a good alternative to those foods. I love ice cream, couldn't live without it sort of like. I found Halo Top, low cal, low sugar, good taste. So it's a good "swap" for standard ice cream and it fits into my diet and restrictions with no issues. The trick isn't to deny, it's to defer. Don't deny yourself something, defer those cravings to something else that's close, but healthy.

Not sure why you are ashamed about how much you can eat... unless you did the surgery yourself... or are somehow willing yourself to want to eat more... you can't blame yourself for what's instinctual.

Ok, so how much Protein are you eating. How much are you drinking?
You may be nose blind to acetoacetoacetate (a by-product) of ketosis.
And you may also be smelling ammonia or ketones in your urine, sweat, and bm's. Also, when you go into ketosis, you can temporarily go more acidic which can make you smell cat pee smells--especially in things like black coffee.

If you're going crazy, so am I - it's not constant, but I certainly seem to be a lot more sensitive to sewage smells post-op than I was before. Some other smells too: I had some rugrats over and for a week afterwards, I'd suddenly get a whiff of berry tube yogurt. My sister later told me one of the kids had spilled a little on a couch and she'd cleaned it up, which I'm sure she did, since I'm the only one in the entire family who keeps smelling it. I'm also pretty sure one of my perfumes has turned, though no one else thinks it has.
So maybe it's just a sharper sense of smell?

They aren't the same thing, but have the same basic root cause of rapid stomach emptying from the missing pyloric valve (as with dumping, people with an intact stomach can also experience these things, though it is rare.) In addition to the symptoms that you have noted, RH is also associated with greater inter-meal hunger that can lead to regain, so that is another reason to keep it under control and learn what triggers it in you.

Matt, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. My doctor told me about dumping syndrome before he did the surgery, but he emphasized that it would be caused if I ate sugary products (which I don't). I did a search of this site AFTER I wrote the hypoglycemia post (duh, I'm a new person here and didn't know I could search this site) and found almost 700 issues of people talking about "reactive" hypoglycemia (not fluctuating - which is what the doctor in the ER called it). With that new terminology I searched the web and found many scientific articles written since 2014 about this "new phenomena in gastric bypass patients." I'm really scared at this point, but I now see that I have got to find a gastroenterologist or endocrinologist to get some serious advice. I can't manage this on my own. I moved to a small town about three years after surgery and at that point was no longer followed by the physician who did my surgery.
So, do you really think reactive hypoglycemia and dumping syndrome are the same thing?

I am having surgery August 16th. I am a single mom of 8 and my youngest has special needs. I do struggle with anxiety about having this done and not being there for a few days for them; however, I keep reminding myself this will allow me the opportunity to become a better mom for them, a healthier mom. So many emotions.

I was scheduled for August 16 but a slot opened up and I'm having it done June 27! I'm on day 2 of my pre op diet. I had my premeir Protein Shake mixed with Decaf coffee and I'm having chicken broth with a bit if breast meat. I used my crockpot to boil the breasts very soft and then added the stock. I seasoned with garlic powder. I also have some Vitamin Water drops to flavor water. I haven't made any sugar free pudding or Jello. I bought some Protein Powder I can make shakes with that is chocolate flavored but haven't had that yet
