  1. Hello everyone! I haven't posted in this forum in...ever? So, hi! I have my RNY in June 2017 with the hope that my weight loss would help my PCOS and help us conceive a second child. I am happy to report that our mission was a success and I am now 4 week postpartum! Our baby boy was born 8/25 Now, the next part of the mission beguns, which is losing the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was able to keep it on the low side, only gaining about 30-35lbs, most of which are now gone...however, I still have -at least- 7lbs I need to lose to put me at a healthy BMI. Any extra weight I lose would be a very nice surprise and be very welcome, but my initial goal is to get back to a healthy BMI. After 9 months of not really paying much attention to how much food I put in my body I am finding it hard to get back into it, so I need some cheerleaders...mostly people who can hold me accountable (although I should be hding myself accountable rather than hoping others will help keep me on track)...So anyway...any support and encouraging words will make me very happy! Also...if anyone has any questions about pregnancy after RNY, I will be more than happy to answer!!! Stay safe and have a wonderful day! Veronica Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Hello all, So here is my dilemma... I weigh myself every morning and always use the same scale and try to do it at the same time each day... Has it happened to any of you that all of a sudden you lose, lose, lose and one day the scale starts going back up? Last week, for example, I was losing evry day, I got down to 183.6...and then two days in a row it went to 184.6 and today 185.8. Nothing changed, I did not eat any more or less than usual... But this is certainly concerning. I was just wondering if anyone had the same experience?
  3. Hello all, I was just wondering... How long after surgery were you able to meet your protein requirements? I am now two months post op and allowed to eat anything but I know, even without restrictions, my protein intake is nowhere near where it needs to be. I know the importance of it, and I think I may be getting 40-50g in a good day but I am still not able to eat much (maybe 1/2cup of food per meal, maybe 3/4 if it's something light like a salad)... So, how long did it take you to be able to eat all your protein from food only without having to supplement? I cannot stomach protein shakes anymore. The smell alone makes me gag so that's out of the question and I am beginning to get concerned...
  4. @smooshycheeks Yup, look at the first response to my post. Catdaddy mentioned how to get to the forum there
  5. Thank you both for your responses! I have checked the forum that @catdaddy suggested and I will be joining soon. I sent an email to my nutritionist today and I will call tomorrow to make an appointment so I can get some guidance. @smooshycheeks since you are a seasoned vegetarian, what are your preferred sources of protein? The ones that have the most protein?
  6. Hello all! I was wondering if there are any vegetarian or vegan peeps out there who had the bypass? I have a few questions for you. Were you vegan/vegetarian before surgery or did you switch your diet after the surgery? I noticed any time I eat any type of animal protein it sits very heavy in my pouch and it causes some pain... Not to mention that it does not matter how much I cook it, it always taste raw to me and it's quite disgusting. I don't have any problems with plant based protein though. So, I guess my next question is.... Is it possible to meet the protein requirements on a plant based diet? What does a typical day look like for you, food wise? What are your plant based proteins of choice?
  7. So... This morning I achieved my first personal goal: the scale finally went below 200! I have finally entered Onederland and I could not be any prouder! I still have a long road ahead of me, but I could not have achieved this small victory without this surgery. Despite all the trials and tribulations, thos was so worth it!
  8. Hello all! Just a question for all the vets out there, just trying to determine if what I am "feeling" is actually ketosis? This happened during pre-op, and immediately after the surgery. Then it stopped during my stall, and now that I am out of the stall it started again. My symptoms...It feels like I have the constant taste of alcohol in my mouth, almost like a burning sensation. It doesn't seem to be coming from my mouth per se, but more from like the inside of my body and my mouth is acting like an exhaust system for the vapors (not a very good description, but the best I could come up with, sorry). It's like...like I am doing gargles with vodka all day long!!! It's just a very weird feeling/taste that I can't get rid of, no matter how much water I drink. And I also have a constant feeling of something stuck in my throat, although that may be unrelated? Also, when you were in ketosis, was the smell limited to just your breath or did you excrete it through your body as well? I am just curious... Thanks all!

    Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!

For me it lasted about 45 minutes...Once I vonited it, it was gone. I had a minor foamie aabout 2-3 hours after the first one and, again, once I vomited, it was gone.

How much time in the hospital?

I had bypass and went home after 4 days. My doctor had a crazy rule that, in order to go home, you had to be able to drink 1 liter of water in 8 hours...I failed the first 2 tests, but was able to pass it on the 4th day.
  11. Hello all, Just out of curiosity, what is the average weekly/monthly weight loss for someone close to my size? I am 5' 1" and my pre-op weight was 241. My surgery was 6/1, and I am currently sitting at 200lbs. Just came out of a stall this week, I was at 205 for a few weeks, and magically the scale went to 200lbs overnight and it seems it is taunting me now..."Oh, so you wanna get below 200, huh? tell me again how that would be so amazing!"...I swear it says that to me every morning. So, it seems like I am losing weight. I am walking on my treadmill 45min/4 times a week and resistance exercise in off days, which I started today. I am finally taking all my multivitamins and B12, and slowly working on getting my calcium and D3 because I had a really rough time with vitamins. I am doing fine with proteins and other foods. Raw vegetables and fruits are not a problem and I tolerate proteins just fine. I measure everything and I am always trying to find ways to add additional protein to my meals. Overall, with every meal, I serve myself 1 cup of food, which includes 3 oz of protein, fruits and vegetables, but I never end up eating the whole thing (except for the protein)... So, in all, I seem to be doing fine...But the weight, even though is coming off, it seems to be really slow...I know that everyone is different and some people lose faster depending on whether they have more to lose or not...So, would I be considered a "light weight", or is my average normal, or am I doing something wrong? Like I said, I understand everyone is different, and I seem to be losing inches over weight, but I am just trying to get a feel...a baseline so I know whether I am on track or completely off the wagon. Thanks!
  12. Your logical side: It is just a stall. You knew about the 3rd week stall, you were aware. It happens to everybody. It will pass, you'll see. Your body is just adjusting. You are losing inches. Even if it takes a while, you will lose weight just from eating less food. Just be patient. Your emotional side: *crying hysterically* You are a failure! You will be the first person in the Universe to go thru this and not lose weight! Just give up. Nothing you can do. Your stall will last forever. You will not lose another pound. Tell me it isn't true...
  13. So, my scale, the little devil, bas been stuck at 205 since roughly 6/21...the dreaded week 3 stall was not a myth, y'all. My surgery was 6/1 so I hit that stall right at the 3 week mark... BUT... And I may be crazy here... I feel like I am losing inches instead of weight? Is that even possible?! Can one lose onches without losing weight? I have also read that fat is "redistributing". Is that also possible? Because I feel that I went from being a blob to having some shape to my body. Clothes fit better, I am wearing pants I have not put on for a long time... I started my journey at 245lbs, now 205. Only 40lbs lost. While significant, I still have another 60 to go at least... But how do I get the scale to cooperate?! Still... Is it possible, the whole inches vs weight thing or am I completely insane?

    Blessed be the chili

I absolutely understand. I was experiencing the exact same thing you are experiencing and I swear, that chili made all the difference. I am not nauseous anymore, and when I start feeling like my stomach is unhappy all I do is put a little bit of salt in the back of my hand and just lick it and that gets rid of any funny feelings. Try it! It might work! Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Blessed be the chili

Mine was super simple. Brown 1lb of ground turkey. Add 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can undrained red beans, and 1 packet of McCormick mild chili season. Mix all together, lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes (or longer for more flavor). That's it.
