Actually, there is some research that supports that upping calories and then dropping them again helps kick start weight loss. One day and only 1300 calories should not set you back. Be kind to yourself and get back on track. That's all. Best of luck staying with your program.

I relate. Everything made me nauseous. The thought of any food was repulsive. I'm seven weeks out now. You do have to get that Protein in, and the Vitamins. Are you getting enough Water?
It is challenging to learn to fix smaller portions, to take smaller portions. I have learned to measure out what I think I "should" eat. Usually, I can't eat it all. At least I waste less that way.
I am also having a hard time eating leftovers.
I've eaten out a few times. Don't watch other people order and eat. Just order an appetizer or something ala carte. Sometimes I just take a few bites off of my husband's plate. It's that or be prepared to take home food and have leftovers.
It does get better. The main thing for energy is getting all of that protein in. I still struggle with that each day.

I am 7 weeks out. The key is to take things VERY slow. Teeny tiny bites. Make sure one bite goes all the way down and settles before taking the next. Don't force too much at once. You may think you should be eating 3-4 ounces, but your tummy may only want an ounce at a time.
Now, I'm not going to lecture, but will just say quit with the ice cream! You know why. Of course it goes down; it's a slider food. If you live on slider foods, you'll never lose the weight. Not being mean or bossy, but I want to see everyone who goes through this process succeed. You've sacrificed too much to sabotage yourself after surgery. :-) Also, Protein, protein, protein!!! Try refried Beans with a bit of shredded parm (parm is sharp and tasty but lower fat).

I was really scared going in, but seven weeks out, I do not regret my choice at all. At first, I thought I wanted the sleeve, too. My doctor made my choice for me, basically, and now I'm glad he did. He knew best. I see so many who are having their sleeve revised to RNY because it no longer works properly, or they didn't lose, quit losing, or gained weight back.
I had a lap band for 7 years that did not work and had to be removed in an emergency surgery. I'm lucky to be alive.
Wish I had done the RNY back then instead of the band. That is my only regret.

Tomorrow is a new day! 1300 calories is A LOT BETTER than 3000. You're going to continue to do great. A blip in the radar.

We had surgery around the same time. I relied on refried Beans with a bit of shredded parm on top. That was a staple until I could tolerate more dense foods. Little by little, one food at a time. Also ate cottage cheese regularly. Still do. I find that in the morning I still can't stomach anything too solid, so usually have yogurt (plain Greek) or cottage cheese. Later on, you can add some peach or pear to those.

Learning new proper portion sizes takes time. You are on the right track using smaller dishes and utensils. I have to measure everything because I have no sense of what 3-4 ounces of food looks like. I can usually eat about 3 ounces at a time. Like you, I was raised to believe that wasting food is a sin. I try very hard to make only what I can eat.
    It does get easier.

It's amazing--after spending so much time not eating real food at all, we crave the healthy food with a voracity we never had before enjoy, sounds yummy!

I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as steak and chicken. These also added more flavor to the meal. So there is no reason to rush the transition to harder foods. I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article about my experiences with gastric bypass surgery. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

    This is a good thread.
The games my mind has played on me is substantial. Remember, we can be our own worst enemy sometimes, and I'm betting that the life you've led prior to this has allowed you to beat yourself up on a regular basis. I'm 7 weeks out of full bypass and it's been much more difficult than I anticipated. First, I have had complications that only added to the stress but I can say that Ive had serious regrets over the last 7 weeks. Some of us out here seem to breeze through the surgery and have very few problems. Others have significant problems. The weakness, the nausea, the inability to eat, drink, swallow, taste, the mood swings, the headaches, sleeping in recliners... on an on. This has been terribly difficult but now, 7 weeks out I can finally say that it's getting better. Sure i've lost 38 pounds, but during the really rough times, that's so far down the list of things I cared about. This process isn't easy, it's definitely not the easy way out. It's life altering and we have to take it slow and make it a personal journey that we must work through without the negativity the world can sometimes throw at us. One day at a time!

Please ignore the negative comments. I know how people are. They don't understand what we deal with. That is why I told NO ONE. I made sure my husband did not tell anyone either. He told a few people I had to have my gallbladder removed. I also have not lost enough yet for people to notice any dramatic change, so when I go home in a few weeks, it won't be a big deal. Some will notice I've "dropped a few pounds." Most won't even notice that. It seems normal to be nervous about this surgery. It is a serious surgery and it is a life-altering decision. Really a good one, though. The first couple of weeks after can be rough, but it really does get easier. One step at a time.

I use a Q-tip to clean and dry inside mine, then run another Q-tip with Bag Balm (basically Vaseline) inside to keep the skin protected and to keep it from getting irritated and red. I've done this for years and it seems to work.

Hi Tarver, Yes i also did same thing before surgery! I am a christian and i know my faith help see me through every bit of it. The Dr even said my healing process was faster then most. i was so desperate for this life change. No matter what, i am all in! For me it was not about the weight loss as it was about being healthy. I survived cancer two year ago and am in high range for another cancer, along with being 150 lbs overweight increases my chances even more and the newest addition was type 2 diabetes. This was the best decision i ever made! I am now diabetics free, off all meds and all my reports came back and i am cancer free still. I feel good! I am going to make this next half of my life fun, active, and amazing! Im 45yrs old going on 30! Blessing to you on your journey!

Welcome back!! I haven't been on a road trip yet, but my advice would be to just be prepared with plenty of healthy Snacks just in case. I have eaten out a couple of times and I think it is fairly easy to stay on plan.
Where are you going? I hope you have a great time!

I'm on clear liquid diet for a week post surgery and can only have my Protein Powder mixed with Water - which is the worst experience so far. Yesterday I was still trying to gag down one scoop of Protein powder in 32 ounces of water (diluted to try to make it go down better) and had a great idea that now I'll be doing daily this summer. I took ice and a scoop of chocolate protein powder and blended it up using the rest of my above mentioned protein water (about 10 oz) to make a protein icee. It was so much better than I expected and I was able to get the full 28 ounces down within 2 hours. I feel tons better now that I got that much more water and protein in on day 5 post op. It's not exactly ice cream, but it's certainly enjoyable.

My energy level has stayed high, I take juice plus for Vitamins. B12 spray, that's all beside the food I eat for Vitamin. Google Bone Broth, it also is the most natural Protein and good nutrition. I love it and easy to make. I also got into kombucha for Probiotics. Love the taste.

hi Carol, exercise it away is not possible when i been overweight for 28 years. yes i have the loose skin but it does not bother me at all. It is temporary because i know i will have skin removal surgery in future. To feel this good and be eating healthy is the #1 goal i have. My weight and body is image is second thought. Because who i am as person is inside me. And cloths can hide everything anyways. Having a healthy life style is worth everything. I am a cancer surviver and i know now i have a even greater chance for a longer life.
