My surgery is in a week on 6/12 and I started at 262 and I'm about 226. I have learned a lot though this journey and I am continuing to learn more each day with the help and support from everyone here. If I could do my surgery tomorrow I would. I have embraced it. In the past my weight was like a yoyo I would lose then gain it back in a couple of months so I need this surgery.

I just started purée also. I cooked boneless chicken in the crock pot until it was really soft, then puréed it with some of the broth, a tiny bit of Neufchâtel cheese and sour cream, and fajita type seasoning. I put a sprinkle of cheddar on when heating and it's really good. I found some glass custard cups with lids at Walmart, they are 4 oz, but they are perfect for measuring my portions and reheating.

I've eaten a hard boiled egg but I prefer to mash it up with my fork and add some mayo.

I definitely wouldn't want to induce diarrhea and the cramping that goes with it! OMG, I can't even imagine doing that on purpose! (Having recently had a couple days of it after surgery)
Like Apple1's suggestion, maybe lowering your carbs or trying some different exercise. Changing up your exercise every so often can be good. When I was fit(ish) in the past, I used to love Zumba and lost a lot of weight at first. When I couldn't get past my stall, someone recommended some weight training to build more muscle because it burns calories faster. I joined some folks doing crossfit and started losing again.

Monday was my two week. As of today I've lost 7 lbs post op and 22 since pre op diet. I have zero pain and moved on to purée. Tolerating foods, Water, Protein, and Vitamins well. I feel very fortunate.

Yesterday was my 2 week anniversary. From the day I left hospital until now 14lbs, all of that was in the first 8or 9 days. Starting purees today and have my post-op appt with doctor. I'm going to contact my dietician for some guidance on how often I should be eating. Had some soft boiled egg with mustard this morning and it was amazing! I could only eat about 1/2.

It is a life changing surgery but the reality is if some of us were able to eat right and exercise we wouldn't be overweight, while others like myself struggle everyday it's not as easy for me which is why I am having the surgery. I'm happy that you don't know that struggle. My surgery is on 6/12 and yes I have cheated with string cheese and some green olives.

I'm so sorry. Your surgeon should have payed more attention to your mindset. I hope your feeling better as you recover! I've decided that surgery is not for me at this point of my life. I'm still young enough & strong enough to fight this in other ways. Best of luck to you & I wish you much success.

    Hi guys!
I get on here every six months or so to update y'all I've never made a topic with progress pictures before, so I thought I would this time, as I've been maintaining below goal for almost a year now.

I ran my first half marathon in February and am running another in November, which is pretty cool! When not in race training mode, I run 3-6 miles, three days per week, and do HIIT style training (heavy weights and cardio) at the gym 2-3 other days per week. I tend to fluctuate between 150-153 lbs, depending on the time of month and just general day to day food/water intake.

I had regret right after. Mostly bc of the poor reaction I had with anesthesia. Then due to that poor reaction, I stayed 3 nights in the hospital. I'm 4 days out and feeling pretty decent today

I agree with this. We cannot continue to eat the same foods or quantity of foods that got us into this position in the first place.
I am still a newbie in this whole process so I only know what I have experienced thus far and what I have read both online and in books on the VSG. Anyone that wants to can find ways to eat around the surgery, but does the stomach actually stretch out?? I don't know. I have read arguments for both cases. I do know that I don't plan on doing anything to find out either way.

As I just cited, it's not a permanent change, the stomach stretches -- it's a muscle. It's all part of how people manage themselves afterwards.
For example, someone that maintains an infrequent diet and doesn't consume much food, will remain having a smaller stomach, and the hormones leptin and ghrelin will be activated less -- this is not merely for VSG but also for RNY patients -- the answer to the question of "how much?" is up to them. This also directly affects peristalsis in the intestinal region, something activated by those hormones, which has a doubling effect of creating hunger. This is no different for thin people like my sister who have no hormonal (and thus metabolic) issues.
I think people need to understand that having your stomach cut is not the primary function of why the surgery works well.. it's the hormonal changes. If cutting the stomach merely was all there was to it, people would find themselves with a plate of food in front of them at all hours of the day because they'd be starving all the time.
The idea that the stomach doesn't grow after VSG or RNY is false. Even our bones grow/shrink (due to Wolff's Law), so why wouldn't muscle?
The surgery metaphorically starts the stomach anew, which especially includes hormones. The emphasis on lifestyle changes is because the surgery is rendered useless by those who do exactly what they did to get themselves in trouble in the first place. The physical restriction is not a life-long savior. Anyone who believes this needs to get it out of their heads immediately. It's lifestyle choices in the long run that is what keeps the stomach smaller.

Yes I cheated, the Dr had me start my liquid diet 2 1/2 weeks before surgery because I had gained 30 pounds waiting for my insurance approval. I was good for almost a week then I had a burrito one day, then cheeseburger macaroni the next 2 days but then I was good for another week then I had 12 pieces of chicken 2 nights before my surgery. I guess I was lucky, I didn't have any complications during surgery or after. My surgery date was 11/21 and I lost 185 pounds so far and have about 120 to go. If you do cheat move on and don't beat yourself up over it.

It's not liquid that makes the liver shrink, so don't worry about that.
