LaLa Ladybug got a reaction from makemyownluck in what is your ht/wt and clothing size?
Hi! I'm 5'6" and two weeks postop today. My highest weight was just over 300 & I was a size 26. Had lapband 12/2009 & got down to 170 & size 12. Leveled off at 185/size 14 & felt good. Lost lapband 10/2014. Worked out [emoji123] at the gym hard but weight still crept up to 276/bursting a size 22. Went back to surgeon for RNY. Current weight 233/size 20.

LaLa Ladybug reacted to James Marusek in Exercise but be safe
When I was young I thought I would try and lose a little weight by bicycling to and from work. After a few months, I gave that up because it was way too unsafe. On the way home people would pass me in cars going around 50 or 60 miles per hour, get within a razor thin distance from my bike and then honk their horns. Even the slightest knee jerk reaction would have caused a serious accident. And it would be me, the bicyclist, that would be on the way to the hospital. This didn't happen once or twice but was almost a daily occurrence. So I retired the bike.
After weight loss surgery, many take to the roads in bicycles for exercise.
Are the steep rise in accidents, and the billions of dollars in annual medical expenses and costs associated with them, worth this push towards expanded two-wheeled transportation?
This observation comes to the fore in the wake of a recent study of a 17-year period published in the journal Injury Prevention which stated that, "Each year, the total costs associated with non-fatal adult bicycle trauma increased by an average of $789 million," and that "Medical costs increased by 137% from $885 million in 1997 to $2.1 billion in 2013."
Meanwhile, the "number of adult cycling injuries increased by approximately 6,500 annually," and the authors added, "Over the last 15 years in the USA, the incidence of hospital admissions due to bicycle crashes increased by 120%."

Exercise is good. But it is not worth your life if you have an major accident. Seek a route that has minimal threats, such as a bike trail. Analyze each close call and stay safe.

Sounds like you've put your body into starvation mode. Once a day is not good for your metabolism. Bet if you go back to 5 small meals you may see some movement

Hi, I was banded 12 years ago and due to similar circumstances I had my band removed February 16th and had RNY April 25th. I never realized how bad I truly felt until my band was out. These two surgeries are night and day. I have lost 60 pounds and have not vomited once! I can eat meat, veggies and nuts and no PBing! You are not a failure just fell victim to an unsuccessful band. My surgeon will not do the sleeve on any previous band patients due to the scar tissue the risk for a leak is very high. If I had known how much better I could have felt I would have done this years ago! Good Luck!

Hello I was banded Aug/09. I have Barrett's esophagus as result from the band. I got the band out in 2015 when I had to get my gallbladder removed. I gain more weight then I ever have. So September 18 is my surgery date for RNY. I struggled so long with this weight and I need to do something about it. The sleeve was first choice until I heard so many people talk about heart burn well I already have it bad so bypass it is. Good luck with your decision. You have to do what's right for you.

Gentle reminder - carbs turn to sugar in the bloodstream. ALL carbs.
If you're insulin resistant or diabetic like a lot of us are (or were pre-surgery), your body can and will overreact to the sugar in foods. It cranks out extra insulin to handle the sugar, the insulin that goes unused turns to fat.
Fruits and vegetables are the preferred sources of carbs for us because they have real fiber, and other Vitamins and minerals along with them. It's not empty carbs like bread, rice, potatoes, sweets, which might have the same carb count but a LOT less nutritional value.
I agree with Jess9395. They're just not the best choice for bariatric patients. Maybe an occasional treat once you hit maintenance, but unnecessary for most of us in the losing phase, despite what doctors and nutritionists "allow."

My Dad was a baker so this is a challenge but I know bread is a very particular weakness of mine, I mean when I've travelled round the world I have asked to go into the back of bakeries!
    Adios doughboy!

It sounds like you are on track - 45 pounds down after a little over a month and a half. [But perhaps some of this was pre-op.] Your rate of weight loss will slow down the further you get. This is because you will be adding more food to you daily meals. Then your weight loss will stop and you will quite naturally transition into the Maintenance phase. For me that occurred around 7 months post-op.

Yeah kefir a great alternative cause you don't have to have another tablet to chew or try to swallow. And even people who are lactose intolerant normally can have it.

You're still very early says concentrate more on the Protein Shakes to help with your healing....food will come.

I wish the medical and media would be honest and tell people that you will be able to eat everything again. I gained 25 pounds the first year prior to surgery cause I ate everything thinking I'd never eat pizza or ice cream again! It was so stupid of me LOL

LaLa Ladybug reacted to DMaduro in Post-op Question - RNY Gastric Bypass was 7/13
Hi - I had my gbp on 7/12. Lots of scar tissue from band in 2012 and earlier gall bladder surgery. I also have a jp tube. Emptying about 1 to 2x a day. At beginning, dressing around the entry point was a bit messy, but the dressing was changed prior to being discharged. Hasn't been a problem. There is still a small incision where the tubing enters, so doesn't seem unusual for some seepage to occur into the dressing.
But for peace of mind, wouldn't hurt to call doc. Good luck healing.

While I was up and moving around those first few days after surgery, the part that killed me was the fatigue. I would nap and often. I needed to have someone around to watch after the kids and make dinner and stuff. If someone offers help, take it. If they make you more miserable, just ask them to leave.

My surgery is still a week and a half away. I'm wondering how we can even drink that stuff the day after surgery. Did they have you drink as much then as they did pre-op?

Can you have souls too? Or change Protein powders? I'm on Day 10 with 4 to go. The first week was the hardest. Now that I'm in the home stretch, I feel better about it. Helps to see the scale go down as the days pass too. For Soups, we can have anything relatively low in sodium & either creamy or broth. Trader Joe's black bean Soup & roasted red pepper soup are my favorites. Something warm makes me feel like I'm actually eating. Oh, & we can have SF Jello, yogurt (with no fruity chunks, and SF pudding. Hope it gets easier for you!

Thanks for the tip. I asked him at my pre-op after reading this. He said they'll do one in the surgery room. He doesn't usually do then the day after anymore. But he said my case is a little more complicated. I used to have a lapband and it herniated my stomach. He wants to take extra precautionary measures on it. I guess he's the boss. I'm all for better safe than sorry.

Ask your Dr. They should do that test while you're still in the surgery room.
